cont....this being said, they had to use two separate ecu's, and programming each one to think it's running an inline 5 cylinder without knowing the other exists; this also explains the dual throttle bodies you can see in the video. btw the magazine is 5.0 Mustang, February 2004, Vol. 11 No.2
i have a magazine where they did an article on this car. what the engineers at ford actually did was take the cobra 4.6L V8 and grafted two more cylinders on each side, with similarly stretched cobra DOHC heads. It just happened to turn out that the displacement was 351ci. According to the article, the crank was set at a 72 degree pin offset, but that doesn't match up with a 90 degree block.
I remember this one, the engine was made by adding 2 cylinders to the modular 4.6. And this engine was actually unique, it had two spark and ingnition controls for each bank of 5 cylinders. such a shame the spawning of the modular v10 never made it into the production line...
pretty cool how the ford techs combined 2 cobra blocks together to make this motor. all it is, is 1 2001 cobra motor and they took another cobra motor and cutoff the back half and combined that to the other block to get a V10 351ci 5.8L
@RIEKSONE You would also need cams and a tune, and probably some more stuff. 'cause the V10 in those vans is built to pull and stuff, not to race. So, in factory form it runs like a dead dog.
would be nice to see it actually put into a production car, i think when it was tested in the magazine it ran mid to high 11's, and destroyed 7 cobra R clutches in one day at the track....
yea the zr1..... the Ford GT does 0-60 and the 1/4 mile just as fast as the zr1... only sad part is that Ford was able to come out with the GT in 2005... took chevy 3 years of ass scratching to beat thoes numbers when they realsed the Zr1... same times and 100hp less in the ford gt... less we forget you can get a pully swap from the Boys at SVT as part of a dealer add-on... boost hp to 650... yay bubye zr1
@panzerphoenix but a big block has more potencial power than a small block.. yes some small blocls have more ponies but a big block at its limit vs a small block at its limit the big blocks gna have quiet a bit more and way way!! more torque. thats wat sum ppl dnt get bout those turbos nd super chargers you just dont get he torque u do wit them as do wit pure cubic inch and BIRTHDAYFACE046 it cuz they can make a aluminum big block weight the as much as a cast small block wit more power
you dont need a v10 to make good power....if ford could put 4 valve heads on every mustang i would be more then happy. or have a 5.4l option from factory. modulars are very strong... however that sound coming from the v10 is amazing, sounds like its coming from the intake
Ford built this v10 engine for the concept Shelby Cobra. I doubt they would every use it in the mustang. There are rumors of a new 5.0L v8 for 2011. Time will tell.
No matter what you're driving...somebody's faster. It doesn't matter what brand they're driving. My wife has a Mazdaspeed3...the other day we were caught and passed by a faster vehicle. They had to exceed 130 to get by. It was a 4-door F350 4wd deisel pickup!! Yeah, it was blowing black smoke! Somebody's faster. Ask John Force. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It's all fun.
The only pretty sad thing is the 725 hp Super Snake making the same lap times as a stock GT500 while the ZR1 makes record laps at the nurburgring, destroying most european supercars.
LOL! And a MILD tune to the PCM on a ZR1 nets you close to 50 HP and 55TQ. And Lingenfelter has a pulley for the ZR1 that nets another 42hp, and 56TQ. That makes 730hp 715TQ. Your point is? Oh yeah, can you go BUY a new Ford GT? That's right, no you can't. And how much was it? $150,000?? PLUS dealer markups. The ZR1 is available right now, and costs $113,000 I'll pay your respects to Dime next time I'm at The Alrosa Villa.
Are y'all serious? That's not a Dodge motor. Look at the alternator location and the connectors for the coolant. That's a mod motor Ford V10. They've been putting V10s in trucks just about as long as Dodge. If you didn't notice, it's also a test mule for FORD DEVELOPMENT! Why would FORD DEVELOPMENT put a competitors engine in a car and go public with it??? Damn
you need to tune a zr1? the Ford GT comes stock with 550hp... and the option from svt to up the Hp 650 for 1k. no tune....factory waranty. and while no you cant buy a new Ford GT, you couldnt buy a Zr1 in 05 and 06. however for the price of a Zr1 i could always buy a brand new kit car ford GT40 :) i think id like that a bit more lol however a GT holds its value as it is a collectors car. and while a lingenfelter Zr1 makes 730hp.... the boys at SVT can do for you to. with a warranty.
Chvey try to do this.thy try and did make it.hahaha.so mustang has to show u how to it.thats why mustang a better car...a chvey want to be a mustang cant be it..hahaha.mustang rule the car world.bicths....
God damn ford. You make so many badass concept cars but you NEVER start making them. WHY?!
Because they're too conservative
That sounds ALOT better then a Viper.

Thats the best sounding V10 I ever heard!!!
i have a magazine where they did an article on this car. what the engineers at ford actually did was take the cobra 4.6L V8 and grafted two more cylinders on each side, with similarly stretched cobra DOHC heads. damn, i remember this car was on the cover MM&FF '04...still sounds like a V8 too!
pretty cool how the ford techs combined 2 cobra blocks together to make this motor. all it is, is 1 2001 cobra motor and they took another cobra motor and cutoff the back half and combined that to the other block to get a V10 351ci 5.8L
I swear I've seen that Mustang before on the streets of Dearborn, I was speechless.
Judging by the exhaust note, I suspect its a 180 degree "flat" crank motor. Very trick indeed.
@RIEKSONE You would also need cams and a tune, and probably some more stuff. 'cause the V10 in those vans is built to pull and stuff, not to race. So, in factory form it runs like a dead dog.
God damn they are beating the shit outta that thing.. nice.
this thing sounds amazing.
yep it's a common pin crankshaft with odd-firing
shhhh!! i wanna hear that damn engine!!!!!!!!
yep, it's a common pin crankshaft with odd firing
v10 is alot of power dude! i mean the 5.4 in the cobra r was alot to.
would be nice to see it actually put into a production car, i think when it was tested in the magazine it ran mid to high 11's, and destroyed 7 cobra R clutches in one day at the track....
That sounds like operator error.
phoobear if I remember correctly it is a 4.6 with two more cylinders. besides a 5.4 with two more would make a 6.8
@TheDartblockstang
Better than a european v10- Yes!
Better than a viper v10- I'm not sure about that.
this place has a headquarters near where i live and my friends asking them to put a v10 in his dodge ram 1500
@yurifiero
Supposedly it has 430hp/410lb-ft
yea the zr1.....
the Ford GT does 0-60 and the 1/4 mile just as fast as the zr1...

Why oh why no V10 mustangs on youtube ive seen a few with Triton V10s on race track they fucking rock!!!
Already found my answer. It's an odd firing just like Cobra and M5.
@XxXKotaRayXxX It's called the ZR1 Corvette. Do a little research before spouting off.
@panzerphoenix but a big block has more potencial power than a small block.. yes some small blocls have more ponies but a big block at its limit vs a small block at its limit the big blocks gna have quiet a bit more and way way!! more torque. thats wat sum ppl dnt get bout those turbos nd super chargers you just dont get he torque u do wit them as do wit pure cubic inch and
BIRTHDAYFACE046 it cuz they can make a aluminum big block weight the as much as a cast small block wit more power
Too cool, that's all i can say.
thats a straight up awesome car I woulda bought a mustang if theyd produced that car.
i like the car
Sounds like a pushrod V8
you dont need a v10 to make good power....if ford could put 4 valve heads on every mustang i would be more then happy. or have a 5.4l option from factory. modulars are very strong... however that sound coming from the v10 is amazing, sounds like its coming from the intake

for the GR-1
anyone else notice how it sounds identical to the new 5.0....?
Pretty darn Cool!
Les
Like the Honda Civic with an LS1 Corvette engine. It's here on youtube, type in "Civette"
No matter what you're driving...somebody's faster. It doesn't matter what brand they're driving. My wife has a Mazdaspeed3...the other day we were caught and passed by a faster vehicle. did that motor come from the GT90?
The only pretty sad thing is the 725 hp Super Snake making the same lap times as a stock GT500 while the ZR1 makes record laps at the nurburgring, destroying most european supercars.

The worthy home for a V10 engine is NOT a Mustang, it's a Formula 1 car.
@tuugfo the new boss 302 is faster than a V8 audi R8 around leguna seca ;-)
Is that for any year?
V12 mustang is nice to.look it up .
2019ish perhaps?
Are y'all serious? That's not a Dodge motor. Look at the alternator location and the connectors for the coolant. That's a mod motor Ford V10. It's the 427 V-10 big deal. should get it to be the the boss 429 2008/2009 that would be a a better idea. hell why not a 429 DOHC V8 too..
the 'last concept car' was the GT90 xD
dont need em lol that v10 makes mad loads of power stock, plus u can s/c it
you need to tune a zr1? the Ford GT comes stock with 550hp... and the option from svt to up the Hp 650 for 1k. no tune....factory waranty.

rumor is there putting the srt10 in the Chrysler 300
What can you put that damn thing in? It's to good for a Mustang.
and the gt looks a thousand times better too (even though the zr1 looks nice)
this would be a swap
get triton v10 from e series van
the motor sounds like the new coyote 5.0's
@TheDartblockstang Thats debatable.
Odd or even firing this engine?
I think they put them in the trucks
makes you wonder what car didn't make it to prototype that had a v10 lol
So. Much. TORQUE...
too bad they don't make 6.8L V10 4V heads. then we could just do a engine swap & head swap while it's out.
Those triton v10 suck my work truck has no power give me a Dodge ram v10 anyday
Those engines make no power for their size stock, and the blocks are not that strong. This engine would be amazing!
very doubtful. it would put too much weight on the front end...and thats somewhere where the mustang needs to lose pounds at.
DAYUM!
The mustangs is designed to attract 16 year old girls these days. You cant be taken seriously in one anymore.
awesum
Half the price are you nuts the gt500 has a price tag of what 80k the zo6 is 70k
FORD WOULD NEED A V 10!!! CHEVY ALL THE WAY
Do want
WHY DOESNT THE TRITON V10 HAVE A EVEN FIRING ORDER LIKE THE DODGE TRUCK V10 -.-
thats cute but a v8 still has more torque
that the guy from 2 guys garage
@gallowman89 he should just buy a ram srt10 lool
@TheDartblockstang lmfao
hello
Shelby super cars is NOT the same as Carroll Shelby. there two seperate companies. hate to burst your bubble. do the research
haha o wow ! dodge motor in a stang ?? what would you do that? why dont you just go drive your rice burner around lol
Wat.
okay so corvette is faster then a mustang. alright cool. lets see a corvette beat the ford GT. ha. didnt think so.
still looks gutless...doubt it even has 400hp
wtf .....
yet ford has failed to make it, like always, chevy is the way to go, not ford
its still a mustang
Yeah and it could beat your ass
Chvey try to do this.thy try and did make it.hahaha.so mustang has to show u how to it.thats why mustang a better car...a chvey want to be a mustang cant be it..hahaha.mustang rule the car world.bicths....
