    Always nice to see David and Blaze in a video. Both trucks would be a pain if you really had to pick up bales all day they are too high in the air. You do not want to be lifting bales or throwing up to the top that extra foot if you can help it. The old 2 wheel drive chevy with granny gear and a nice low box is easier to use. Once you need to toss the bales up 3 or 4 bales high it gets harder and the trucks are too high in the air for that. Now if Kase and Tommy helped David pick up bales for an 8 hour day they would build up their muscles. Good video guys stay safe.

    As far as farm trucks are concerned the old truck is much better. You can beat the crap out of it on the farm without caring about it. You could also fix alot of mechanical problems at the farm as well. The new one is too nice to be doing farm work on and imagine trying to fix something like the air suspension on that new truck outside of a dealership or independent shop.

    I've driven a lot of Dodge trucks. Seconds gens are my favorite from a looks perspective, but the new ones are so much better everywhere else. True, a 5.2 or 5.9 is easier to work on than a Hemi, but you get a lot more power. The new trucks have way better brakes and handling. I've recently upgraded from a 2012 1500 to a 2019 1500 Classic, and wow, very similar looking trucks, but a lot of improvements. I prefer the simple interiors of the older trucks and the 4sp auto over the 8sp, but I'll take a new Ram over an old one for daily driving any day.

    Try backing up with the door open as if you’re adjusting position to hitch a trailer. Big Brother in my 1590 RAM stops the truck immediately and slams it into park. Maybe I’ll try buckling the seat belt! Something to be said for old trucks sans sensors

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the sensors are there so is the backup camera. Just use that! I do that for all of my trailers. Then for the 5th wheel or gooseneck trailers, I stay in the cab and look over my shoulder. On my ranch, you better not have been backing up with the door open. Guys get run over that way, forget to put the truck in park, because they are used to backing up with the door open, destroy doors, just like in the old GM truck David has restored. That had a door that still had a 2” gap when closed due to that kind of error. Bent the entire door frame.

    Manual transmissions are superior. Too bad both are automatics.

    I'm going to go against the grain here and probably get crucified, but whatever. I have a 98 Ram with a long bed. I've had it for about 4 years now and have done tons of engine, transmission, and other repair work to it.
    If you put both of these In a lot for me and told me I could have either one, I'd take the new one all day. New engine with better gas milage, probably a better transmission, better frame (mine is Swiss cheese), better brakes, better suspension, hell yeah I'm taking that. But I think it needs some additional reason why...
    I think one thing people do is they look at an old truck and are nostalgic for it. We think back to our younger years and want to hold onto those years and remember when life was simpler. If you compare the two trucks, the newer one is obviously better on paper. It makes more power and performance. But nostalgia ishalf the reason I got the truck. It's got that mean looking hood and the exhaust sounds great. That's what's so cool about these older trucks. And parts are cheap and they're easier to work on.
    But they lack so much power and features these new trucks have. Trying to accelerate on the highway makes me feel like the truck is going to fall apart. The transmissions in these die all the time. The body is rusting away. Theres drum brakes in the rear. The list goes on.
    I think if you put a bunch of truck guys in a field and said "which one do you wanna mess around in?" we'd all go for the old one. Cause it's fun, old, and we don't care if it gets beat up. But I'll go against the pack and just say at the end of the day, I'd rather have a working new truck with extra features (if I'm daily-ing it or hauling). If I'm offroading and having fun, give me the old one hell yeah.
    Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I'm also just a sample size of one. Plenty of people will have great and horrible experiences with old and new. At the end of the day, both trucks are fine for most of us.

      I second your opinion!! I drive a 21 F150 Lariat PowerBoost for my work truck. I have a 21 Honda Ridgeline for my daily driver and “Sunday” truck, and I have a 67 Chev C10 restored in my man cave, 1990 Chevy 454SS, original and mint beside it. They are just toys, show& shine type vehicles. I have a 67 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed, original car restored to factory quality (plus 4 wheel disc brakes, wanna stop so no crunches occur). I also have a 67 Mustang 2+2, not a numbers car, but a clean restomod to a GT 390 look alike. It runs a massaged 302 crate engine with 4 speed automatic and 4 wheel discs. The 67 C10 has 4 wheel discs as well!!
      I know it’s overkill, but to each their own.

      I think the point in this video is, the old dodge truck just works better, not to mention the huge price difference. Most people do not keep up with the maintenence, so when you get an older truck, expect to spend a little in maintenence. Its still infinitely cheaper than buying a new truck.

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blueduck9409 - it really depends on the frequency with when you replace your new truck. There are guys out there that replace their truck every 10 year or longer. They are very likely to come out ahead of the gam, assuming they didn’t finance the truck for more than 4 or 5 years. I am old enough to remember when it was “crazy” to finance a vehicle more than 3 years!! Haha. They were much cheaper, relatively, then. I understand the time value of money, but it’s a lot more expensive living these days vs then. I have 2 friends that have their first vehicles. In fact they have kept every vehicle they have ever bought. One has a 60 x 100 Quonset full of fairly mint vehicles. He will die with those. I know, he has willed a few to me that he just won’t sell right now!! Heh heh. Funniest guy I know. The other guy has 8 vehicles. Very different buying habits. They are both in their 70s. I suspect if the friend who has only purchased 8 is wayyyyy ahead of buying used. He paid cash for all of them, in fact they both did. If my other friend with a lot of vehicles were to sell out he may even get his money back! He has 3 classic Corvettes, 1953, 1963 and 1973. He also has a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed. 1957 Chevy 2 door hardtop, and 3 967 - 1972 C10s. All in great to mint shape, the Vettes are very low mileage, the Chevelle not too bad. We all get together, pre COVID, and drive every vehicle to keep them in good order. Anything that fails is fixed right away as a group gathering. They are very much the exception. A guy like me has wasted a lot of money, 2 - 3 hundred thousand, on my personal vehicles. On my classic vehicle purchases and subsequent sales (it’s my hobby) I am up almost $1 million. Been very lucky on those. I am an exception on how many vehicles I have owned personally over the past 40 years. In my case, especially because the vehicles were classic, I prove your point very well!
      The average buyer, IF they are very picky on the used vehicles they purchase, will definitely be better off buying used. There are exceptions though.
      Hope your day goes well!!

    Great review and test but it should be a basic 4x4 tradesmen model instead of the longhorn

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True! They are kinda limited by what Ram has in the test pool for models. I have a couple of guys I know that use their RamBoxes to hold their cordless tools and tool belts. They are older trucks now, but we’re bought new. The truck boxes look more like the old Ram’s box here in the video, so yeah!! They are just fine for work trucks. You can get the RamBox on a pretty basic truck if you don’t want to go $71k for a Longhorn.

    You know I haven't seen any of the 2nd generation 318/360 5 speed 1500 trucks to give a fair comparison. Those are the trucks to buy for a 1500. Those dog 46 re transmissions were never any good we can't compare those with a zf 8speed auto. Two different animals. Then for v8s ram offered the g56 behind the hemi only in 2500 and 3500s. If it was in the 1500s there would've been alot more smiles per gallon
