    Well…I must agree with everything you said. More of a poor mans Tie Die. Dharma does have the Best dyes. I keep forgetting to tell you, You have a great speaking voice for your tutorials. Very clear and easy to listen to. Thanks.

      As far as a first time dyer goes (or children) I think Tulip does a good job with these kits. I was able to go back to the basics and make two decent shirts with little to no effort. It’s a great jumping off point. You’re either going to love the craft and immediately look up Dharma or decide tie dye is not for you and stick with the kits sporadically. Well, thank you, Tim, I don’t like listening to myself, but I’m glad you don’t mind. 😊❤️🌈

    Hi love your videos. So inspiring. I have done this for 30 years, dye in the micro oven. Like to add, we warm and eat food, drink afterwards..done for years. No problems. And you can use any plastic container that works for micro oven, fill with 1.5-2 liter warm water, fix and salt. Use hand size clean stones to push fabric/t-shirts down in to the water, gentley with gloves. No need to cover with lid. Fun and easy👍🤓

    I love that you tried this, Steph. I use a glass casserole dish with glass lid to microwave silk projects in. I make a cross with wood skewers and set that in the dish and then place my project on the skewers. I also add some water to the dish. I microwave it for three or four 45 second intervals, check after every 45 so to make sure it doesn't burn. Make sure to let it cool and Don't breathe the fumes. Use oven mitts. I dump the project on my rack and rinse with cold water. Then wash like normal. It seems like I did a cotton shirt, too, but it's been awhile. Loved your video:)

    Considering this is tulip kit dye and less than 20 minutes batch time, I’m pretty impressed with the outcome. The real test will be if they hold up after several washings. ✌🏻

      I was thoroughly impressed. I feel like there is a lot of dye back from not using synthrapol. It concerns me that tie dyers perpetuate the Dawn dish soap in the wash. We spend so much to create quality tie dye I don’t understand cutting corners with the Dawn. For a first time dyer I think it’s ok in a pinch. I too am curious about the longevity. 😉❤️🌈

      @@BelladonnaDyesCo I have been using Dawn Ultra for years and have never had a adverse effect on the dye after washing. My daughter loves tie dye so we got some tulip kits at the beginning of the summer. After watching many tutorials like yours, we made sure we soaked in soda ash first, let batch for 24 hrs and then did the washout with dawn. They did come out surprisingly well and have not faded much. Very good product for an intro if you add some extra steps.
    That first attempt encouraged us so I did get some procion dyes. We did some regular and ice dye projects and used synthropol for the washout and the shirts looked amazing. The “real dyes” are so vibrant and worth the money if you’re going to invest your time in this. It’s a good art project for the kids and our friends are amazed on how good they look.
    Thank you and others for sharing your craft and talents. Your videos are invaluable for newbies and allow us to learn proper techniques without wasting money and getting discouraged.

      It’s super user friendly. The kits are really well made! One piece of advice I’d give is to get some soda ash if you’re able. I know tulip sells it in small packages. Amazon probably carries it too. It really will make a difference in the vibrancy and longevity of the dye colors. If you can’t, well, you see how pretty the shirts still turn out without the extra soda ash step. Have fun tie dyeing!! ❤️🌈

So far, I have collected 2 rainbow kits, 1 large bottles and 1 small bottle kit, and a celestial tie dye kit, all from Tulip. They're not the two min. brand like you just did, but are called One Step. Testing my abilities at a less expensive cost and on old and new t-shirts. Gathering a good base supply of bottles as well. Then, if I do alright, I will move on to better, richer dyes.

    I have only used Tulip for tie dye and although I have nothing to compare it to, I find the colour has stayed vibrant for dozens of washes. If I have old white tanks or tees that have gotten less vibrant I like to dye them instead of throwing them away . Have used on cotton/rayon as well as 100%cotton. Tulip does have soda ash: I found it at joann’s (Walmart was sold out.). Maybe the soak with soda ash will keep the colors brighter? Not sure. I did not see this kit at Walmart; they had several kits on clearance. I picked up their blue camouflage kit for $5.00. I also picked up the smaller party kit to try. I noticed that most Tulip products show pastel results rather than the strong colors that procion dyes do.

      @BelladonnaDyesCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, kit dye needs to be used the same day. 15 minutes is extreme, even 45. They have to say that because it’s mixed with soda ash which the dye is null after 48 hours, and the general population will mix it and put it up for years and then sue them for it not working. Do you have an opinion on Rit fabric dye? I got it in the detergent dept, not the craft section. Thx for these videos

      My personal opinion is it’s great for vat dyeing pastel colors. For tie dye I 100% do not recommend it. In the description box I have links for what I use. DharmaTradingCompany.com and what you’re looking for is procion dye and soda ash. 😉❤️🌈

    Steph how do you keep the bottom from getting all muddy? They sell the containers by themselves so I bought them and love the fast process but the muck is not something I know how to prevent. I was thinking little pizza box support thingy things but the container isn't big enough. Any tips?

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far I haven’t had that issue. So put your darker colors on the bottom. Like a black back, that side down. That way if it puddles it’s dark anyway. Also, don’t over saturate. If your item is really soaked blot it off on your dye towel or a paper towel before putting it in the container. I’ve made a handful of microwave shirts and I looked at them to see if there was muck lines…. I’m not really seeing any, and I’m heavy with the dye. Best of luck. Let me know how it goes. 😁❤️🌈

    What did you mean about detergent 3 minutes into the video please?

      Detergent=laundry soap. Synthrapol is professional detergent used by dyers. Link to purchase it is in the description box of the video. ❤️🌈

    So, ...since I get my Tee's from Omar the tent maker, I might get one side of my tee done. I bet you dint read zee French instructions. I use Dawn dish soap to get the BBQ grease outta me shirts. Wonder what's in laundry detergent that's no bueno as a surfactant.

      Omar, the tent maker? Are you pulling my leg? I did not read the French instructions, if I did we’d be in trouble right here in River City. I don’t know much about Dawn for tie dye because I don’t use it. It works awesome for cutting grease though and saving baby duckies from oil spills. It will also take Neosporin out of hair. 😉❤️🌈

      @@BelladonnaDyesCo Vous ne parlez pas français ? Yeah, no, neither do I and yes I am pulling your leg about Omar. Dawn ...for getting Neosporin out of your hair? Do I dare ask? Most people put oils into their hair ... assuming it was not the cream solution.

    Often times you can find a microwave wattage on the tags inside of the door edges..just an fyi

      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I searched. The microwave is older than I am. It’s easily 40 years old. Who knows what type up regulations they had back then. 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for the input though. ❤️🌈

      You are correct. If I were to do this in my real life today I would have soaked the shirts in soda ash, but this tutorial was all about doing it as if I was a first time tie dyer. They aren’t going to have all the supplies or fancy tools. I think Tulip makes a great product. ❤️🌈

      Right! From opening the box to finishing two shirts is more like 2-3 hours. I will tell you, Scott, I’m all about the microwave now. 😉❤️🌈
