    Yes this is a great lifehack. Everyone please take note to NOT use the microwave for heating foods after this. Contamination is a real thing. Stay safe and enjoy this wonderful hobby that we all share.

      Thanks for tuning and and commenting. I appreciate it very much.
      I have to respectfully disagree with you. Dye is organic minerals. Soda has is essentially decarboxylated baking soda (swimming pool chemicals we swim in and swallow). The entire project is contained in plastic… PLASTIC! How many times do we use our microwave after we reheat food in a take out container. This is 100% safe to do. Our tie dye groups have perpetuated a fear of this process without any rock solid proof that this is dangerous or toxic. It’s geared towards children. Not that things geared for kids aren’t sometimes unsafe… but I seriously doubt any company would run the risk of billions of dollars in lawsuits. This microwave wave has been around my entire life and has seen many uses, my entire family is fine. All that being said, everyone tie dye at your own risk. ❤️🌈

      I have to agree with her on this one. Tie dyeing is safe. We wouldn’t use our microwaves after most things if you really think about it. Change my mind.

    Hey Steph, awesome to see what you did in this video, thanks. I loved the fact that you used the 3 primary colors to make 6! My coworker and i have been using Tulip dyes, I'm new to dyeing she has done it b4 and it shows...lol. what i loved in this video is that even tulip dyes are not cheep and i found myself using up my green and orange on a previous project. I understand secondary colors...but wow...now i know for sure. I actually put in an order with Dharma last friday for 9 - 2oz colors and a 5 lb bag of soda ash. Expecting it any day. The only place in town to get soda ash is hobby lobby and the package i got a month or so ago had 2 baggies, ea. for a gallon of water. Used that up and went back but they were sold out. We still have some tulip dye left so i will use that up b4 getting into dharma dyes to practice spirals and scrunching. I did take some pics to send...is the fb the best for that and i have some questions. Thanks again...😊✌

      Hi Mark! I’m glad you enjoyed this tutorial. I haven’t made a three color rainbow in a long time. I forgot how pretty they turn out. Tulip is a great product! We all started from kits, unless we knew an old school dyer.
      You’re going to love your Dharma dyes!! 2oz is the smart way to start. The only color I recommend in the 1lb size, right out. of the gate, is Raven Black. It requires 8tsp to mix so you’ll go through it fast!!! What colors did you pick?
      Perfect amount of SA, it will last awhile and get you through until your next order.
      You can create beautiful tie dye with Tulip, especially if you pre soak in SA. The Tulip tutorial was a beginner tutorial. To show what people will experience for their very first tie dye.

      @@BelladonnaDyesCo hi, steph, i visited your fb wall but couldn't figure out how to send pics...lol...I'll figure it out.🙂 and thanks for the heads up on the black, i do like using it. I got lemon yellow, fire red, deep orange, fuchsia red, deep purple, cobalt blue, better black, kelly green ( felt they were kinda limited on greens in stock), wisteria, royal blue and glacier blue. And 5 lbs of soda ash. Looks like it will arrive Thursday. Curious, i work at a soil lab, test for golf courses and athletic fields. We had an Anylitical Lab in the bldg. but no more. Anyhow, looking in the chemical room, there are several kilograms of Sodium Carbonate. Was considering trying it for soda ash, which it is but without the hydrates. At the time we had limited dyes so we didn't use it. I guess it's a moot point now as i ordered 5 lbs from Dharma. Take care😊✌🌈

    I started tie dying this summer with store bought kits. One i tried was an absolute flop. It was neon colors in pre measured spray bottles and they completely washed out. Iv been using the tulip stuff, not the 2 min dyes though, and they have worked fabulously. I started simple because i was told the market for this hobby is pretty small and its a waist of time. I started to just try something new and creative outside of what i already fo and now im obsessed. Id love to one day get the more expensive Darma colors and create tapestries.

    Heat accelerates many chemical processes and you had touched on that before in an earlier video that batching in the sun and [unusual] heat was making your colors "pop". I'd say nuke for a couple of minutes then batch it as usual if one is not in an all fire rush. The obvious answer seems to me that if you had a "oven" that operated @ 100-110°F and batched for 4-6 hours would be about ideal chemically speaking but energy wise could be costly.

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES!!! Heat is our friend! Especially with this dye/soda ash reaction stuff. The hotter the better. Our heatwave has been awesome! I know that there are tips and tricks out there to help colors batch. I haven’t gotten there yet. Right now I’m using Mother Nature and letting her do her job. 70° and higher is the sweet spot. This winter on the sun porch I’m going to have to get clever. I’m going to try a muck dye and nuke it… in theory it should also work. You think?? 🤷‍♀️😉❤️🌈

    I started with tulip and soda ash comes with the kit i bought its not lack of soda ash that makes there stuff fade quickly its just not great dye. Its also pre measured so that can make a difference. I personally died when i really hit it out of the park thanks to channels like this and they looked awesome and then after 2 or 3 washes they just washed out. Ive had shirts 20 years that hadnt degraded as much as Tulips did after 5 washes. I re-dyed 3 of them after getting real dye....they look fine still.

      That’s a great question! One I don’t have an answer for. Yes, for sure there would need to be a vent or it would explode. 🧐 I think a freezer bag would work because it’s more heavy duty. My tie dye friend, Crystal says she uses a casserole dish with a lid and has success. It’s trial and error. If you try it, would you please let me know how it goes? Hi, Vicki. I appreciate your feedback. I think we have to agree to disagree. I see a lot of green and some orange. The whole point is to have the red & blue seep into the yellow to make the secondary colors. This is my process for a rainbow using only the primary colors. When you make yours you should do it your way. I’m really happy with the outcome on both and I think anyone will be able to achieve great results doing it the way that makes them feel happiest. ❤️🌈
