Testing Bubble Bars: Foam and Bubbles + FREE RECIPE

  • I tested 4 bubble bar recipes out of 5.
Honestly, I didn't expect them to perform as well as they did because I was kinda cheap on surfactants. I didn't use SLSA as my primary surfactant simply because it's so expensive!
***Instead, I went for a combination of SCS, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, and Decyl Glucoside. It doesn't contain any oils or butter because they tend to reduce the amount of bubbles.
    Here's one of my recipes:
    Recipe#4
    41,00% Baking Soda
    23,00% SCS
    13,00% Cornstarch
    8,00% Cream of Tartar
    1,50% Citric Acid
4,00% Decyl Glucoside (or Coco Glycoside or Coco Betaine)
    5,00% Coco Betaine
    3,00% Glycerine
    1,50% Fragrance
If you want more bubbles then substitute about 10% of Baking Soda for SCS or SLSA.
This recipe hardened very quickly was easy to roll and produced a good amount of bubbles.
If you want to use 3d molds or a bath bomb press or mooncake press for this recipe then cut out Glycerine completely or reduce it to 1%.
I will post one more recipe on my blog later today or tomorrow with more details and instructions.

no, you can use liquid SLSA instead of Cocamidopropyl Betaine though.

Hi Daisy! Thanks for your sharing!
I would like to know why the recipe include decyl glucoside and coco betaine at the same time?
I remember both of them are liquid surfactant, will they perform different?
    Thank you!

more surfactants make more bubbles and foam. Also, combining surfactants makes the final product less irritating. You can add other liquid surfactants too!
      They also perform somewhat differently.
Decyl Glucoside has excellent foaming properties and good dermatological compatibility. It is also 100% natural, biodegradable, and plant-derived and for many people it is important.
It is advised to use Cocamidopropyl Betaine mainly as a co-surfactant.
However, you don't have to use Decyl Glucoside if you don't have it. You can still make perfectly good bubble bars with solid surfactant (SLSA, SCS) and Cocamidopropyl Betaine

    what does 41% mean? 41g?

    • @daisysbeautyjewels7845
      @daisysbeautyjewels7845  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      100%=100g
      so 41% = 41g
you can easily scale up your batch. Let"s say you would like to make a 500g batch
      41*5=205g
I have a free Google spreadsheet on my blog and it makes all the calculations for you
