    I exercise solely because it helps me cope with depression and anxiety. A few days without working out and I feel terrible. The aesthetics are a bonus as well though. 😁

      Same here. I’ve been stuck in my head for the past decade. Honestly hitting the weight room and doing tons of cardio helped me get off meds. I’m convinced there’s no better way to manage depression and anxiety than to eat right and workout consistently.

      From 15-18 I was in the gym consistently. Then I fell into drinking, drugs and parting. I now wanna get back into it but when I try I can’t stay consistent. Any tips?

    Willing yourself to get to the gym after a bout of anxiety is so difficult, but it ABSOLUTELY helps. You connect, shut the world off, set a goal, and reach it. It's like a switch you need to disconnect from the b.s. outside of the gym.

    Strength training gives me focus and let’s me be alone for a while and escape from the stress of everyday life. I’ve been called selfish for enjoying that time and making it a personal priority which hurts but hasn’t deterred me.

    I started exercising because of social acceptance. Now the only reason I am doing exercise is because it is so good mentally. I feel so great after exercise

    I do a short swim before I do a 40 sets workout. When I’m finished, I’m high AF from the dopamine. I’m now a total addict to my daily training routine. My one day off per week is my only bad day.

    With strength training it's also impossible to talk yourself out of the significance of your accomplishments. In my own experience with anxiety and depression I tend to be very good at convincing myself that whatever progress I made was not "real". If I was in a play and got a lot of applause I can convince myself that they were just being polite. If I practiced a martial art and beat my opponent I can always tell myself that the opponent was just going easy on me or was having a bad day. But with strength training if I dead lifted 200 pounds last week and did 215 pounds this week there really is no way to talk myself out of that. The iron weights are what they are. They don't get lighter. They never cut you a break. You lifted more so that means you got stronger. Just my two cents. :-)

    Also I have always found that in strength training gyms the other people tend to be very supportive. They want you to succeed. They want you to be part of their tribe so to speak

    i was going through divorce i have a little kid that i love so much i have been so depressed and anxious. I started gym lifting heavy weights meal prep good diet i swear anxiety just vanished like magic.
    I loved life again and became more active in my daily life.
    Guys if you feel down go hit the gym and work your ass of.

    Anxiety runs in my family. For me, it feels like a negative energy inside me that I need to dissipate. When I binge on social media and avoid my responsibilities, I'm often left feeling guilty, overwhelmed and defeated. A lack of confidence. The opposite is true when I head into the gym and train Muay Thai, Strength, Boxing or whatever it may be. I feel in control, my mind is more clear and I'm overall just happier with myself. There are always days where I feel like not getting up and doing it. But the longer I've been doing it, the easier it gets.

    Exercise is definitely the cure to depression, and anxiety. Please everybody never be late in joining the gym community. It is the improvement in your physical health and mental state that will get rid of depression and anxiety. Please join jym, it will get you charged to face the day. Make the chores less painful, job easier, socializing more fun. You will improve as a person. It will build your selfstem, make you as fresh as new born everyday. And it will make you beautiful physically and mentally, make your skin fresh. You will glow. You personality will grow. Make sure you listen to music when training. Its more exciting.

      Ive been depressed all my life. Went from 300 to 190 pounds and I can tell you that exercise never cured my depression and anxiety.

      @@beenay18 I did 30 mins cardio and 30-50 mins strength training. This was for about 2 years maybe. Then I joined the military and i still worked out but it was pretty random. I always hated working out and It never in itself improved my mental. I just got out a couple months ago and find it hard to exercise given that it doesn’t really help. Other than being physically healthy of course.

      @@Brandon-tz5pn refraining from physical exercise might make it worse. At least stay healthy and stay in good shape, and do things that might help you with your depression like learning new things, socializing etc. Gym is also a good place for socialization.

    Most social media people have forgotten or do not apply mental health as a good result from a workout. Usually I see men mainly showing off their bodies for results or just for their ego. But I'm so glad I found this TH-cam channel and now subscribed. I love the mental health talk part of working out. I do it for that. As an individual who struggles with ptsd and social anxiety and depression this makes me feel somehow connected to the world and that I am not alone in the world struggling with it. I am currently starting to run and work out again and I am starting to feel better. My mind is so much clearer and I feel more energetic. My stamina is way higher and my mood feels more happy and I am sleeping great! Thank you very much for these talks

    I have bipolar (has elements of depression and anxiety). I always feel better when I'm working out. The mindfulness aspect of working out is important, so is the feeling of accomplishment. You deserve to feel better after doing a hard workout!

      You're welcome lily, I believe you can find stability and happiness even with your diagnosis. Easier said than done though isn't it?! I'm just coming out of a 10 month depression but I've started working out again. Stay strong 💜

    Weight lifting gives me a reason to be here and now instead of in a loop of bad thoughts. I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorders. But I’m actually able to forget that at times while waiting in between sets and especially while doing each rep. I’m a woman in my 20’s and would recommend this to everyone. I want to be in that focused state of mind and body all the time now:) I use the technique while being outdoors in a crowded place, grocery shopping etc. Where I usually feel anxious. I try to treat it as a workout.

    i've been working out regularly for about a month or two, but because of depression from relationship issues ive added more sets, and i've noticed some changes which makes me feel better, but started adding weight and lifting longer to keep my thoughts clear, as i tend to over analyze and dwell on issues im dealing with.

      Your brain takes takes time to get used to it. It took me almost 1 year to get my brain function well. Just do it as a morning or evening ritual consistently. You will start to see result. If you are addicted to medication, drugs, porn, sex, undereating, overeating, undersleeping, oversleeping etc, you brain will not respond to it well at first. But it will get used to it. It will get better. Your brain will gradually start producing dopamine when you exercise. Dopamine that you brain gets from drugs and bad habit will be replaced by the one produced from physical exercise. Your brain will learn to produce dopamine that keeps you satisfied, adrenaline that makes you excited, endorphine that makes you euphoric, serotonin that makes you relaxed and oxytocin that makes you sociable.please continue physical exercise. It gets you charged to face the day. It will change your whole life and whole world. Love from fellow human being.

    My best recommendation is to start out slowly be patient. With time comes success it doesn’t happen overnight that’s for sure. In time your body will ask you to lift weights. After time your body gets addicted to lifting weights and so will your mind. You will brain after time will just remind you “I need to workout” and the so called “muster” to comes naturally over time.

    Resistance/strength training the past few weeks to month and I feel more stable in my body and movements which in turn make me feel more stable mentally(depression, anxiety, fear.) Prior I felt a little vulnerable walking around which led to thoughts that would disorient and disassociate me a little out in society. Both those traits led to anxiety. Literally feel a lot stronger in my frame while walking around and it's seemed to heal me of the disorientation and dissociative effects I felt. Feel normal and strong which makes me think over the years I became too unbalanced in my workout methods which wasn't proper strength/resistance training. More MMA kind of workouts along with growing up playing basketball my whole life so a lot of cardio and body breakdown. My body type is a little more on the flexible and long side and weight training seems to be the great balance I was missing along with high protein diet for recovery along with creatine ect. I'm doing the essential 5 workout for strength training and that's barbell squats, deadlift, barbell rows, bench, and barbell overhead press with others sprinkled throught that routine depending on what I want to work. It's been a pleasant and surprising experience so far. It's seemed to restore some much needed vitality I didn't realize I was missing. I think basketball and MMA really broke my body down over the years and resistance and strength training is the therapy my body was craving. Again, great experience and as a person who's worked out or played sports their whole life I thought I had this workout stuff down and knew my body but this resistance/strength training experience has been a pleasant really beneficial surprise.

    I work out because it helps the depression i get from feeling isolated even though i work and talk to alot of people. Lack of female touch has plagued my mind for the last 6 months…seems like no matter how much I improve on myself its never enough

    Do other forms of exercise like cardio calesthenics, swimming. Dont lift heavy, lift light weight with asthetics in mind rather than strength. And fun uplifting music is the must have while working.

    Somehow heavy lifting makes me more depressed. It didn't used to be that way. I've tried bumping my calories, my protein, my carbs, fats. Nothing works. I even quit alcohol. Still nothing.

      Could be because weight lifting makes people feel more grounded, but people who are excessively grounded have a tendency towards depression. It's based on Ayurveda and not science though, so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe try other forms of exercise like cardio, yoga, swimming.

      Same here, a tiny detail most of the people forget to mention is the fact that heavy lifting is super stressful for your nervous system. In my personal case, the best way to exercise in this situation is, instead of lifting, spending more time outdoors, taking long walks. I put my earphones on, playing useful educative content related to my fields of interest, this helps me to continue improving myself while getting rid of the stresses of modern life. There is no real need to add more stress when you are already going through a depressive period.

      This may seem half soaked. But If I listen to music during weightlifting I get relief from my Ptsd symptoms. Without music I just don't get as much benefit.

      Try switching up with something cardio or a workout that's enjoyable for you. I do zumba and that has helped me personally.

      It can. The lifting helps bring the attention back to the body. The mind and body are working together to get something done. I struggle with the same symptoms (CPTSD from childhood and adulthood trauma). I may never be completely symptom free but lifting makes me feel good in my body.

    I think the hard thing is that I have really bad muscle tension so it makes my body ache more which frustrates me… I think I’ll build towards it though, cardio can be helpful to start off but exercise is helpful overall

      The muscles already in tension with depression and anxiety so do the opposite relaxing your muscles by exercising deep breathing on a daily basis at least 60 minutes in sessions you will heal in 3 months

    I suffer with episodic depression, when I'm hit with a bout of depression I don't lift because I have no energy or motivation.

    What sucks is if the depression is caused by health problems. I exercise as much as my body lets me. I would exercise 6 hours a day if it was possible

      It takes time for brain to respond well to physical exercise if you are used to activate your brain through medication, drugs, addictions and bad habits. But your brain will learn the healthy way to release all the neurochemicals through physical exercise if you are consistent with it. It took me 1 year. At first it will remove the symptoms. It is a progress in itself. At least you feel excited, euphoric, sociable for sometime. But the period of time the physical exercise will fuel you will increase gradually. Be consistent. Make it a ritual. You will become more and more beautiful day by day.

    Been wanting to workout for a while now. My soical anxiety is the only thing stopping me. Blah. Shitty part is it usually only last 10 mins and those feeling of anxiety goes away.
