  • In this video, I’ll be replacing the air con pipe that connects the compressor to the condenser.
    A simple job that cost much less than what the garage has quoted.
    This procedure might also apply to the Volvo S40 MK2, V50 and C30.

    Had the same hose blow out violently on my C-Max after it rubbed a hole in itself on the frame rail. Thanks for the video

      My garage also quoted over £300 and said it was because they would have to take the whole front of the car off to access the area. Glad to see it’s only the headlight.

    Firstly, congratulations on getting Autodoc to send you the part. I spent 3 weeks trying to get a response for parts not arriving and a further 4 months trying to get my money back. Secondly, to getting 'one up' for the little man for showing up the 'scum bag' dealers trying to shaft us.

      Thanks. This was my first and only order from Autodoc as ECP and GSF didn’t have this in stock. I’ve heard good and bad things from Autodoc, but I still use the UK based suppliers for the quick postage.
      Yes, it’s absurd the prices quoted sometimes, hence why I try to do most jobs myself. Amazing amount of money saved!

    Thanks for the video. What lubricant if any do you recommend applying to the o rings on replacing the new pipe? I'm looking to replace my condenser and believe it is the very same two connections from the top which I will need to remove.

      Thank you. Forgot to mention this on the video, but they had still a bit of grease in them so I dabbed a bit of silicon grease, which is a good substitute. The degassing process also counts ins oils that lubricate all seals.

    Hi Great vidio again can you help me I have a mk2 A/C water is not coming out of the heater box do you know where the water out let pipe is as it blocked and letting water on to my mats on testing it's not engine coolant wiper box is ok thanks for any help.

      Thank you. I’m sorry, but I’m familiar yet with the heating system of this car. From similar situation on other cars I owned, the cause was a blockage in the heater matrix, in particular, cars with dual zone climate control. Yours, could possibly have a blocked heater matrix

      No the Aircon as a water outlet when you turn on water comes out under car that is the one I'm looking for. When it blocks you get a wet carpet on the driver side floor and gurgling noise inside the heater box no water loss from engine and a hot heater thanks.

    Hi good day, a good help to all of us Ford Focus owner. Just a bit question, how did you know the part number?

      Thank you.
      I went on Google and type Ford zap parts catalogue, entered my car details and searched for the diagrams with that part. From it, I got the part number and asked Ford to confirm it

    For a long time, how long is that? A similar pipe cracked at the compressor and all the gas escaped. Turned off the AC on the button. But clutch/compressor will not start anyways because of the pressure sensors doesn't allow it.
    I've heard some replaces the dryer and some not. It's not a fun job to do and quite expensive. This happend to me 3 days ago.

      @@GentilsGarage thank you.. then I might be safe. I hope. Are there any symptoms or such to determine if it's bad or not?
      Did you change the o-rings and lubricate with PAG oil?
      My line costs 170 euro from the dealer. "Ac-service" costs about 150 euro here around. Vacuuming the systems oil and gas, leak detection and filling of oil and gas. And test that the system works properly. I have a feeling that either low or high pressure switch are a little bit sketchy since the clutch won't engage intermittent time to time. And the condensor fan turns on and off.. not a steady turn on. There can be lots of things :)

    • @GentilsGarage

      @@orfeous I don’t know much about aircon, just a few basics. My Jaguar XJ had a busted condenser, but managed to fill and hold pressure for a couple of weeks. But then I noticed that the condenser was crumbling. I replaced the O rings and drier because the car was nearly 25 and I was already replacing the condenser anyway.
      For the compressor to start, it needs pressure in the system. You probably had a slow leak and therefore the AC system wasn’t working properly and then it stopped completely when there was nothing at all.
      I didn’t have to replace the O rings on mine as the car was only 10 years old. Also, a good air con regas not only vacuums the system, it also contains oil that lubricates all components. That why it is recommended to recharge the AC every 2 years or so to keep everything in good working order

    Hi I have this problem with my focus, I have called a local garage who have quoted £180. I checked auto doc and the pipe is just over £40, another garage I called said I will need to get the pipe fabricated, what’s does that mean? And is that true? And how do you remove all the gas before removing the damaged pipe?

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A few garages can fabricate those pipes, but more often than not, they get a specialist to do the job. However, since this is an available part in many store, I don’t see the reason for it to fabricated. If a pipe is damaged, it is very likely that the gas has escaped and therefore no need to remove the gas.

    What do you mean by dryer?

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A dryer is a component of the air con system. Since it generates a lot of moisture when it’s working, the dryer absorbed the moisture.

      Maybe take to another garage for a recharge and hopefully they’ll identify which one. They can’t charge for a recharge if they are unable to do it. I used ATS Euromaster and charged me nothing, but told me which pipe was gone. The other garage quoted me an extortionate amount and that’s when I did the job myself.

      @@jamie2106 if you watch the video again you’ll find your answer 😉. Garages won’t give parts numbers as that’s a matter manufacturers… they are the ones who make them. Just contact Ford with your VIN and ask for the part number and go from there.

    By law, you're not allowed to carry on repairs on a A/C system without proper qualifications 😉

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I wasn’t aware of that.
      I was aware that only a qualified technician was allowed to do repairs on systems IF gas was still present as they can remove the gas safely and avoid it being released into the atmosphere.
      I thought it would be ok in my case as the garage diagnosed that there was leak and no gas was present in the system.
