  • STAGE 2 Part 2 - Cycling UK Rebellion Way. 40Km route.
Leaving Swaffham, north bound over the A47, pass wind turbines. The route soon veers off-road towards Castle Acre along a wide bridleway. At Castle Acre there's a river crossing (either over the little foot bridge or through the water at the Ford!). The ruins of the Cluniac monastery of Castle Acre Priory and the the Norman Motte-and-Bailey castle are worth a visit (and free to look around).
The route co-joins the Peddars Way for a few kilometers before turning west. Surprises abound in lakes, sandy tracks, quiet villages and ruined churches.

Regarding the sand pits at Bawsey. They’ve been quarrying sand out of there for many decades and even today they often have 2 train loads a day depart Bawsey from the old Middleton Towers Railway Station.

Oh, thanks, Tony, for your local knowledge. It's an unusual landscape. The big lake looked amazing. 👍🏻
