Feel like cooking him down to third reich political theorist is a little much. He was a staunch defender of the republic and desperately sought to repair it.
i had to do a double take when first viewing this, i was caught so off guard by their sexual tension and didn't know if i was the only one seeing it. thank god for the innternet, cause it only took about 5 minutes until i knew basically everyone was thinking the same.
It’s pretty wild to watch the series in retrospect and realize this small conversation had the kind of insane ripple effect it did. Obviously this episode was always clear that elections can be ‘decided’ by the rich and powerful, but it’s really unsettling in retrospect that Mencken seems to have won in the end simply by charming and entertaining Roman a bit
something something something, the inherent homoeroticism of facism no but more seriously, politics = schmoozing, schmoozing is only a few red lines away from literal seduction, and roman just wants A Kiss From Daddy 🥺
Also at 0:00....it looks like Caroline Collingwood's (The mother of the 3 younger Roy kids) new fiance is played by Pip Torrens. He was on the British series Poldark (and season 1-2 of The Crown). I think he's going to definitely be on later in the series as it would be kind of weird he was cast to play a picture on a cellphone...unless he gets cut?
That last face of Roman - seconds later, he’s probably conflicted about if he hates him or wants him. 🤔it’s always those people that are annoying, who we end up….oh dear. ❤
Are they planning on bringing him back even though Roman is out now? I wonder if the election will be next season and if it'll be Mencken vs. Connor Edit: they brought him back alright
Side note: Menken's "party trick" is the stupidest party be trick ever. Of course at a political gathering you can tell who someone is largely based on their "enemies". Hell, you could do that at most any gathering. That said, he's still playing Roman like a fiddle, and it will be very interesting when Roman discovers he's been played.
I mean it really comes down to how specific Menken calculates it. Its a 'stupid' party trick if he was to to find out Roman hates liberals and then title him a 'statist' but depending how intrictaly Roman tells Menken who he hates and why the more intricately and accurately Menken can tell Roman who he is.The idea that 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' is stupid, not Menkens trick.
@@procrastinationvacation7163 WTH? I neither said nor implied Mencken's trick is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend,". That's you making giant leaps and assumptions. Just because you are thinking in an overly simplistic fashion doesn't mean other people are.

He's a last vestige of this show getting over itself when it comes to the Trump hysteria that took over a particular political wing of the United States for a good couple of years.
I didn't catch it but I can see what people are saying. Dunno if there is anything actually there, but the dialogue subtly hints at it. Actually really amazing writing
personally it's impossible to miss for me, i'd say it's not just their expressions and voices and what theyre actually saying, but also the way the camera lingers (especially on Roman) and how it captures those silences between them (i.e last few seconds of this clip, the few (long ass) seconds in the bathroom), it feels very deliberate from the writers/producers/whoever
Jaryd's hand gesture at 0:43 scream gay
WHAT HE'S GAY. any other Easter eggs
Interestingly enough the quote, "Tell me who your enemies are and I'll tell you who you are" is from the Third Reich political theorist Carl Schmitt.
‘The concept of the political’ is everyone’s favorite bed time story.
Hey he said he pulls from H lmao
Literally all of modern politics does.
He’s a man for all seasons!

him hiding his wedding ring for the whole scene….

Roman: This is nice, couple of cool guys having some disgusting fun.
Mencken: (seductive grunt)
The Disgusting Brothers, Part 2

I really hope they bring this duo back for more screentime. The scenes with them were so entertaining
Looks like you'll get your wish quite a bit in season 4.
@@BatmanHQYT 5 weeks in and no Mencken yet. I assume he’ll come in late in the season as a major player

I didn’t catch the gay tension
Especially with that introduction line at 0:15 where Jeryd asks Roman...."What's your deal....most people here want to fuck me or kill me."
Seems like Roman might want to marry him

The sexual tension tho
He covers his wedding ring during this scene for a reason, y'know
Need a video with Call Me By Your Name soundtrack between them in the bathroom - cheesy but it would be so great
Is it me or is this guy hitting on Roman
They are definitely giving each other "fuck me" eyes.

Yeah he's been cast for the last two episodes. Loved him in The Crown!
At least the next episode is set at Caroline's wedding in Italy, so I reckon we'll see him then.
0:17 Connor Roy on the other hand was interested in politics from a very young age
personally speaking, this guy is hella attractive. Politician scumbag as most involved in politics are, Im sure, but attractive
If we actually got some charismatic attractive candidates, I bet things would get wild.

The kinky gulag where is discipline is mandatory.
Uncle Andy sure worked his way up the ladder
I just watched all of Weeds, and it was hilarious when Andy was saying something like “I want to be president” when they’re in Copenhagen
why is this so homoerotic
Justin Kirk was excellent as the hook up in the last episode of conversations in LA!!
Jaryd is a closeted homosexual, right?
Everyone has had some to be so. When Mencken said “hey” something subtle righ there. Roman watch out. I know he’s president now.
It’s strange how Roman in particular thought of his father as immortal. Logan was 80 the clock was ticking g
Peter Munion. Is that a play on Peter Mannion reference?
Admiral Grope Boat
Succession spinoff in 5 years will be about this guy
facist yaoi
Gerri over in the corner feeling cheated on.
Now this guy is leading in the polls for the series...after all the hype on ravenhead

Probably in the primary? Unless Connor wants to run as an independent which would totally piss off Logan and would be delightful to see.

A guy looking to become the next president.
Think Trump, but different. He's an extremely right-leaning, controversial and polarizing figure who's looking for the GOP nomination for president.
