"He's gonna say visceral"
"Brutal"
"Oh shit that works too"
He referenced how he always says those two things but I think he stopped caring
@@beyman7962 HAHHAA! Yes, I did stop caring! I don't say visceral as anymore...but shall do soon!

The lesson behind the Puss in Boots fight is so beautiful
Puss is never gonna beat death. But he can live his life. Beautiful
You know how long I’ve been waiting for this? Woo I’m aboutta make a name for myself here
And that name is Jeff
How you goin' Jeff
How is the taco business
You got this!

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was such an unexpected treasure in so many ways. Gorgeously animated (and clearly learning from Spider-Verse), but the stakes and the whole idea of an existential crisis was handled both humorously and beautifully.
The Raid Redemption is, in my opinion, possibly the greatest action movie ever. I love the brutal end fight with Mad Dog. It's enhanced with an earlier scene where Jaka, who is a higher rank than the protagonist, goes one on one with Mad Dog and holds up pretty well but ultimately loses. Really enhances the perception of how much the protagonist and his brother have to go through. I think that was a great way to set up the final boss.
Ip Man 2 and Ip Man 4 (which in my opinion is basically the same story) both do the same, by introducing the main antagonist/final boss in a previous fight scene with a side character and coming out on top in a brutal way which helps set up the anticipation, brutality and challenge of the final fight.
For me, fight between Mad Dog and Jaka is even better than the final one, because both Rama and Mad Dog look superhuman in the latter, making it less relatable.
I know some people say the second movie is better, and it's certainly great, but I have to admire the simplicity of the first movie. The concept is perfect for the goal of the movie. The plot doesn't need to be complex, just engaging.
@@maxkresnin9083 Man, that fight was amazing. Not only is the choreography amazing and really establishes what kind of charact Mad Dog is, but it gives the audience a chance of hope only to snatch it away and really relay to the audience that things are serious.
@@Eterco I love both movies but if I'm being honest, I think I may like the first movie more.
@@Etercothe first Raid is a better action movie, the Raid 2 is a better movie.
I still can't get over how Sergeant Jaka was able to go toe-to-toe with Mad Dog SOLO for as long as he did, especially knowing Mad Dog was destroying both brothers at the end at the same time.
I disagree with Obi-Wan not having a character arc after the Phantom Menace. His journey comes to and end exactly in the clip you have shown, the Duel of the Fates. That is when he realizes that he has failed Anakin (even says it out loud in the film). His way of mentoring was not what Anakin would have needed and he didn't change course in time, making him play a main role in the birth of Vader.
That's not what I said :) I said he could have had a Hero's journey! That wasn't a hero's journey.
Equilibrium with Christian Bale has one of my favourite ending fight scenes. The build up throughout gives so much satisfaction even with an anticlimactic antagonist.
Brawl in cell block 99 has some brutal fights
“Im executing Eleazar!”
good call....
Streetfighter (anime) was very underrated. That Vega/Chun Li fight with KFMDM pumping in the background is fantastic.
Obi-Wan beat Anakin by using his pride and ego. He knew Anakin would do something reckless, so he tricked him
Thank you for looking at The Raid! To be fair, there are so many fights in these movies you could do a video on both these movies themselves.
In this episode we learn why Marcus likes fight scenes so much.
In Episode 1, in the final fight, pay attention to the behavior of the characters when the force field is up: Obi Wan runs to his master and is stopped by the force field and watches anxiously; Gui Con Jin just kneels and seems to meditate in total calm while Darth Maul he shows himself to be impatient in his thirst for blood. I like that detail.
Sifu is such a good game, makes you feel like a martial arts bad ass once you understand it
Might be my fave game ever....speaking of each, I have a special video coming out tomorrow that you might just like!
When u said orgasmic feeling, I didn’t know u would include that scene lmao
End boss fights? Video game and video game-like movies? Low budget stunners? Shocked the end fight from Hardcore Henry isn't mentioned.
And Dredd is one of my favorite movies.
You do not speak badly about the Battle of the Heroes. It's everything you could want from a fight scene; incredible choreography, actors who can actually fight, great camera work, epic soundtrack, actual stakes, emotional highs, and the dialogue is legendary 😂
To be fair to the Street Fighter movie Raul Julia was absolutely gnawing the scenery.
He didnt have to go that hard but he did, and in the throes of terminal illness.
He did it for his kids
Ik this ain't from a movie but one of the best fight scenes I've seen is the boss fight between Origins Batman and Deathstroke. Just absolutely fucking incredible to watch, especially seeing as it came out in 2013 and was lower budget compared to the 'mainline' Arkham games
When you said "orgasmic" and cut to Link from The Matrix Reloaded I about died 😂😂😂
Pahahaha! I just remember being in the cinema when that scene happening and feeling the big O!
@@MarcusFlemmings I was watching this at work on a break on speaker and had to turn it down REAL quick lol
@@MarcusFlemmings The "big O" feeling is why Shonen anime and manga is so popular.
They repeatedly stim that feeling of overcoming and get the reader/viewer completely overdosing and addicted to it.
Be it willpower, the power of friendship, or whatever something allows the concept of "overcoming" which is the payoff most reader and viewers are after.
Every fight is;
"How will the protagonists overcome this new threat that just messed them up"
"Find out in the next episode/issue of - insert name here"
The end boss scene in 3 O'Clock High deserves a look.
Great final boss battle
Have you already analyzed some fights from the movie bullet train? It is one of my favorites action movies and i want to see your opinion about it
I'm not a big fan of the film :((
You're simply wrong about Revenge of the Sith. That fight is in mine and many other opinion the best lightsaber combat ever put to screen, and the dialog is the greatest Star Wars meme of all time. It's not the best overall fight in the series, but it is an objectively awesome fight scene.
Maybe for zoomers
He's definitely not wrong that Duel of the Fates is a much better fight scene, regardless of how you feel about Battle of the Heroes.
He can't be wrong. It's his OPINION. And, I hate to break it to you, but many people think Duel of the Fates is better.
Of course, the prequels are trash so it's a moot point anyway :)
@@ianucci I'm a millennial, just a millennial who can recognize the prequels are endearing despite their many flaws.
Dude, the best part of you doing this series is that there's a near endless amount of fights for you to compare. Im 34. I look forward to you uploading a new one every week or 2 for the rest of my life. Gonna go ahead and pencil you in for that, please & thank you 😂
Hahahaa no pressure then! Big love for the kind words too!
God damn, Chun Li v Vega, epic fight even in amongst the likes of Ninja Scroll and others back in the day. I watched this with my 12 year old boy only a few months back and totally forgot the scene starts with Chun Li in the shower. 😮 Needless to say he's been asking for more epic Anime fights non stop.ever since 😂
Not as much a 'Boss' scene, but the end fight in the shopping mall in the original 1985 Police Story... that simply left me breathless. Still love it today.
Cheers from NZ.
BRO YES, PLEASE PUT DREDD ON ONE OF YOUR LISTS.
SUCH AN UNDERRATED MASTERPIECE.
"Sword of the Stranger" 2011, has a fantastic final dual that would be great for this series.Great work, thank you for all you do on this channel.
The boxing movie Gladiator (1992) has some great fights. The first fight with James Marshall’s character against ‘Black Death’ was fantastic!
I know it was reviewed has a cheap Rocky. But the fight scenes were great. Except the last one unfortunately.
And you can see Benny ‘the jet’ Urqidez in the crowd at the end!
Watched this so many times back in the day.
I suppose the opposite side of the coin from final boss fights is the very first fight our protagonist undertakes...or at least the first fight we see them engage in. It is the fight that establishes how strong/talented the character is. John Wick is an obvious example because the first half of the first movie is spent just hyping him up, then when you finally see him in action, he lives up to it (but you've already covered John Wick). Trinity in the beginning of the first Matrix is another example ("No lieutenant your men are already dead")
One good example that comes to mind for me is Book of Eli. Our protagonist is underestimated by a group of highwaymen and we find out very quickly that they are no match for him at all.
And the bad example I can't stop thinking about is the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie where our terrible protagonist is introduced fighting in a regional MMA fight and LOSING. There's plenty wrong with the movie in general but this introduction was just so bad, not to mention it introduced a character into the MK universe that nobody wanted or asked for.
EDITED TO ADD: Gannicus from Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (ep. 1) - Now THAT is how you introduce a character.
Wonderful comment!
The first boss fight that popped into my brain as an answer to your final question was the final fight in Fist of Legend between Jet Li's Chen Zhen vs General Fujita
😂 ah ive been tryin to remember what that was. Yes to this
I know you've probably talked about Matrix to death, but Neo looking at the stairs and then turning around is the ultimate boss fight moment. Pure anime dialogue, "Run, Neo... What's he doing? He's beginning to believe." So cheezy but it's so good.
A lesser known (as the series itself is spotty) lightsaber duel is Darth Maul vs Obi Wan from Star Wars: Rebels. That fight scene is art and needs more eyes on it. Love your vids as always!
Big love! never seen the animations for Star Wars...shall try and check it out!
I would love if you showed more jackie chan he has so many films to choose from i know you have done him before but to me he is the best action star.
Jackie vs Benny "The Jet" Urquidez.
I've suggested this fight, before. Let's hope it happen.
Seagal runs funny cause he is a joke. Except when he is going full force on stuntmen and S assaulting women
Boi you already KNOW I'm here for it. Was there any doubt? ;)
You should really check out the fights from Samurai Champloo.
Can you talk about the roadhouse movies in your next volume?
Another Great Endboss fight is in SPL 2. The Corrupt Political figure in that movie and Head honcho who also Employs a Switch Blade Assassin, makes for one Badass Fight! As the Assassin acts like the Mid boss before the Finale!
And the Final Boss is just Crazy smooth with a lot of his Fluid Motions, take downs and Counters!
The Rundown from 2003 has some great over the top action scenes
YESSS!!! YOU ADDED STEET FIGHTER II: THE ANIMATED MOVIE!! THANK YOU!!
“What is an end boss fight?”
“NANOMACHINES SON!”
Since you've brought up Street Fighter, I'd love to hear your opinions on the Mortal Kombat 1995 movie. It's an interesting one that, arguably, the two best fights (Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion and Liu Kang vs. Reptile) were added in post-production. The Liu Kang vs. Reptile one is special in a way because while it's not a 'final boss' fight, it's a 'secret boss' fight, which any Mortal Kombat fan knows is exactly what Reptile is in the original game.
Love this comment and you're actually gonna get a bit of a surprise in the next 48 hours in regards to these scene - stay posted to the channel ;-)
Favourite final boss fight? Sword of the Stranger.
…I ain’t letting this go till you’ve featured it.
Jackie Chan’s Return of Drunken Master has a Great Double End Boss Fight!
Dragged Across Concrete has some BRUTAL fight scenes.
Another banger video, always look forward to your next upload. Great job Marcus!
Aw, seeing the Punisher clip got me excited
The "Sword of The Stranger" anime movie final fight is one of the best sword fights in fiction, period.
The Secret of NIMH. The fight between Justin and Jenner still sticks with me. Old school, Golden Age Hollywood style, like an Errol Flynn epic and I love it.
Really, really enjoying your videos. Great analysis and choice of films. Love The Raid but I love Dredd even more. Keep 'em coming.
Love the shout out to Assassin's Fist. Truly a love letter to SF.
Youre a legend for having kuroki vs kanoh at the end, man bless your channel
Had to stop 59 seconds in, just subscribed, the Benny Hill music over Steven Sagal running had me dyeing.
The final fight in Drunken Master 2 is probably my favorite. It’s amazing.
Speaking of The Raid again…pretty much all the music was done by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park and Fort Minor. His solo stuff is great.
dude the Raid is the goat
@@user-yf9ku1tl6b easily. Almost the whole movie is one long fight scene..
Seeing the fight with mad dog in the opening has me hyped for this volume
If you haven't mentioned it yet, the final fight in the movie Kill Zone 2 (spl2) is really something to behold.
A great end-fight, that I think often gets forgotten, is the the two brothers fighting in 2011's 'Warrior'. It may not be the most engaging fight scene from a technical standpoint but the emotional weight for both of the brothers is what makes it so great. Especially because of Tom Hardy's character who basically started out as the antagonist but throughout the movie you start to understand his psyche and his motivations.
So when the movie gets to it's final fight you don't really know who to root for. You feel like both brothers not only deserve but NEED to win. But that's impossible of course as one of them has to lose the fight.
One of the most emotional movie-fights of all time in my opinion.
I am loving this series so much
Massive love!
The second i saw Vega jump down on Chun Lee I heard KMFDM in my brain before it evenstarted playing. Ultra is one of the best needle drops I've ever heard.
THANK YOU for mentioning Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist! It doesn’t nearly get the amount of love it should!
I loved it when watching it!
Vader toying with Luke in Empire is still my favorite light saber duel.
The Raid fight scene is probably one of the best of all time. Everyone making movies needs to learn from Gareth Evans PERIOD!
great video, as always! 👏
Man that wolf in the puss in boots movie it's really scary. It's more for an anime than a kids movie 😳
Here's my list of best end boss scenes:
- Jackie Chan vs Ken Lo in Drunken Master 2 (Hong Kong version)
- Jet Li vs Donnie Yen in Once Upon a Time in China 2.
- Donnie Yen vs knife wielding Wu Jing followed by Sammo Hung in SPL/ Kill Zone.
- Donnie Yen vs Colin Chou in Flash Point.
- Mel Gibson and Danny Glover vs Jet Li in Lethal Weapon 4.
- Iron Man, Thor and Cap vs Thanos in Avengers Endgame.
- Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez in Wheels on Meals.
- Alan (Tony Leung) vs Mad Dog (Philip Kwok) in Hard Boiled.
- Jackie Chan and Mars vs Hwang Ing-shik in Dragon Lord.
Love these!
Did I see Gareth Edwards himself in the patreon list? Now thats something!
A tv show that I think deserves some credit for the attention to detail in the fighting is Mr. Inbetween, a lot of it is gunplay, but the weapon handling and violence of action is on point in almost every fight, quick, dangerous, to the point.
Reminds me of that one quick and dirty fight in Goodfellas.
I don't think it's the real Gareth Edwards...I mean, he's real....but not THE Gareth Edwards...maybe!
end of drunken master 2/return of drunken master. maybe my favorite jc fight.
great work as usual, really thank you for this gems of videos
MASSIVE love!!
End boss Fight... without a doubt... final fight of Drunken Master 2!!! The fight... the direction... the music (origonal ones! )
Another great vid! Can't get enough of this series. Can you do a Batfleck vs Batbale fight comparison next?
Have you seen Baby Assasins? The hand to hand fight scenes are really interesting
Who needs Songs of Praise on a Sunday…..!?! Thanks Marcus! 👍😀
It's Monday though
I think the issue with the Star Wars fight is something Corridor touched on recently. The light sabres, the sets its all too digital now, it doesn't feel real. The older films were on real sets that worked into the scenes, the sabres felt way more like actual lazer beams and less like LED light tubes.
It's weird how wrong your opinion is
Yeah, I saw Corridor's awesome video! I don't think it applies here - this fight is okay. But the narrative for the fight could have been better. It's mainly the Disney lightsaber fights where the LED issue creeps in!

The end fight from The Man From Nowhere is IMHO the best fight scene in cinema.
Man these videos are so good. I appreciate how much you allow us to understand not just your love of fights, but as cinema as well. Sincerely hoping this channel blows up for real
Big love my friend! Honestly, so glad you GET what I'm doing here!
Wasn't expecting to see Animated SF2 Movie, that was a nice surprise. That was my first Manga back in the day.
Boss Level mention? We love that. You gotta analyze one of the fights in that in a future volume.
Great video! You should totally talk about the leo dicaprio vs tom hardy fight in the end of the revenant, such a brutal scene!
Love it! Shall deffo get a mention soon!
The Boss scene for Bloodhounds is such a journey, it’s easily my top recent favourite, I’m super excited there is going to be season 2 made
Love your work keep it up
Great Video! Maybe consider any fight in "The Duellists" and the "They Live" fight you occasionally tease. Thanks for doing the work!
Great video! Some
recommendations :)
1. Rurouni Kenshin 1-5
2. The night comes for us
3. In the line of duty 4
4. The last dragon 1985
Man From Nowhere is OG. I feel like that was what inspired all fight scenes up to The Raid
This is my first time watching one of you videos, it is pretty damn awesome. I grew up with all of these movies, would love to see an episode just dedicated to Hong Kong cinema. All the Shaw Brothers films to Golden Harvest have some of the best fight scenes that still hold up to today standards.
So glad you called out The Raid/Dredd connection lol. Both great movies though!
You guys already know what the best end boss fight scene in movie history is. It's The Raid 2, kitchen fight scene. They're cooking in that kitchen, no debate.
glad to experience rare good recomendation from youtube
I know it's a TV show the bug "Kill The Queen" scene from Viking is incredible. Only secondary characters that can die at any moment, super visceral fighting, might want to check it out !
I would love to see you talking bout some of kenshin the traveller live action movie fight or ong back either way great video like always
I think I binged this whole playlist (admittedly out of order). Did I miss any mention of Tony Jaa? I believe I seen a clip of The Protector but no discussion.
Absolutely loved this whole series btw. Great stuff!
That "Puss n Boots" movie is honestly FIRE
Street Fighter was such a guilty pleasure. I will agree i was expecting better when i was younger and watched it.
Was really hoping you’d be covering the original The Raid after your coverage of the kitchen fight in 2! By the end of the year, you’ll have covered every single iconic fight scene ever! ^^
My favourite 2v1 "end boss" scene is the last fight in Sha Po Lang (SPL) 2. Wu Jing and Tony Jaa vs Max Zhang. It has some rope work, but it's beautiful. And the movie really sets up the bad guy (Max Zhang) as an intimidating, unstoppable machine.
SPL1 also has one of my favourite fights in any movie, with Donnie Yen vs Wu Jing. The knife vs baton scene, much of which is improvised. I really hope you cover that at some point.
7:15………Marcus, this feels targeted
Great job!
An unconventional fight, but I really love the battle between Ripley in the power loader versus the alien Queen in "Aliens." It's not as fast paced or as choreographed as a lot of movies, but the drama, the setup, the stakes, the convincing props, just make my face light up every time I see the bay doors rise up and Ripley lets out her line, "Get away from her you BITCH!"
