- 5 Romanian Lions Update 🦁 🦁 🦁 🦁 🦁 We brought them home 🇿🇦 After they had to suffer under cruel conditions in private keeping, we rescued the Romanian lions a year ago and brought them to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary as a first step. Since the 5 young lions are full of life, LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary provides the best long-term home for them. They have been residing there since August this year, and we are so happy with the decision to bring them to South Africa🌅! The siblings love their new spacious home 🌳 and have settled in really great. Don't you just love watching them run around and play with each other all day❔🧡

Can anyone direct me to a tiny TH-cam clip of a dark-maned lion taking his first steps on dirt and grass after thirteen years in a circus wagon cage? It was a small snip in an "animals freed from cages" type TH-cam last night, and that big guy's delight at just stepping on DIRT, and the gusto with which he spread his big paws and plowed around in it, scratching his pads, was such a touching, heart-warming moment to see. Then he hugged and licked a huge rock, like the greatest treat at a party. I'd love to have that on a permanent loop just to savor and enjoy, but I don't know how to extract just that from all the dozens of others in that site.

This is a wonderful rescue! I think everyone would love to see from above with the help of a drone the large enclosure they lions have available in South Africa
The beggining place is too cold to them, i guess. Instead the sweet home, hot South Africa .

Hi there, our FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary is specialized in the intensive and specialised care for traumatised big cats and is therefore a great starting point for all our rescued big cats. Once they are assessed as being strong and healthy enough, both physically and mentally, we consider the transfer to LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. Thankfully these beautiful five lions were ready for that next step and can now enjoy their new surroundings! 🦁

Elza enjoys the company of her neighbour Bobby, a lion rescued from Albania and Simba unfortunately has some medical issues due to his upbringing that can be better taken care of at FELIDA, which specialises in the intensive and specialised care for traumatised big cats. Seven lions were rescued, five of them went to LIONSROCK whilst Elza and Simba stayed at FELIDA because their health need to be monitored more closely.
Unfortunately, the owner kept refusing to hand over the parents or to at least allow a vasectomy of the male to stop the breeding. We have signed an agreement with him to stop breeding the lions, but we still do everything in our power to make him give up the remaining lions and to prevent any further animals from suffering the cruel fate of inappropriate keeping or commercial exploitation.

Dear Sue,
we rescued all 7 lions 🦁 in one of our biggest rescue missions ever.
We brought the lions to our FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary. After one year with us it was clear that the two oldest ones, Simba and Elza need special care and intensive supervision. The years in poor husbandry have left their mark on them. So our experts decided that FELIDA is the best place for them. In our daily work we can see that they enjoy being there and we are happy to offer them a longterm home.

Why hasn’t the The European Union done anything about this sort of abuse. I see it again and again to these big animals. I am British and this would never be allowed here. I have fought fir animal rights in the uk and am presently pushing the law here to stop live exports of animals to Europe. Now we are out of Europe we don’t have to abide by their backward rules. Their treatment of horses is awful. We don’t eat them in my country.
It is indeed a long battle for laws to be brought up to the Commission!
