    I agree it can be uncomfortable for some people, but I was just showing the actual fingering that Kansas uses. Play it whatever way you want..

    This was one of the first songs I tried to learn, and initially I was really imitated by the finger picking and gave up. After a year of playing I've come back and have learned most of the song - thank you for the simple and straight forward instructions! I'm surprised by how easy it is once you get the finger picking style down.

    I absolutely love the way you teach this song. I am a intermediate guitar player who has never done any finger picking at all and in just 1 week I find myself playing one of my all time favorite songs. I can't thank you enough for showing me just how easy this song really is. I hope to learn more songs from you

    i started playing guitar a little over a week ago. This is the second song Im learning and the first finger picking one. Thank you for making it so easy to follow, and for going through what each chord is so Im not opening 8 tabs trying to look up A minor and G and what on earth is a first inversion. You made learning the song easy

    Wow! I really like your style of teaching. It sounds just the way Kansas plays it. All it took me to learn was to practice, practice, practice. Then one day I picked up my guitar and "WOW" I did it. But I still need to practice more. Thanks for sharing.

    For those of you complaining about using your thumb for F# in this song.....stop complaining and just do it...m cuz I know that just like anything else challenging, advanced guitar techniques like this one feels weird, uncomfortable, and hard to do at first. But with persistence it get easier and eventually become second nature. ...and being comfortable using your thumb for the low E string come in handy alot and is alot of fun....it opens your playing to a whole new level of skill. If you ever even dream of being able to one day play like hendrix, clapton, Jimmy page, or even like modern blues such as Kenny Wayne shepherd you must first learn to use your thumb! It's nothing more than a more advanced n fancy way of playing bar chords that allows you to easily pull off beautiful hard blues n rock riffs n solos and easier to make fast transgressions between harder bar chords in advanced songs like "little wing", "under the bridge", and thousands of more beautiful songs we all love but find out quick are extremely hard to play! Lol so yall keep practicing and don't give up! Yall remember how hard and intimidating it was when you first tried to stay learning to play normal bar chords? ? With alot of practice that too became easy and second nature. Again using the thumb is just an advanced way of playing bar chords that makes the more challenging songs easier to play. So stick with it and don't give up! I promise before long you will love and prefer and prefer using your thumb for F Shaped kind of chords....

      @huejasshole 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Simon when i first started using my thumb a few months ago i thought it was impossibly uncomfortable and gave up for a month or two. Came back to it to learn under the bridge and found it to be the easiest thing

    • @Sephy1346
      @Sephy1346 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +James Simon It's pretty easy though. I got that technique down like in two weeks. Compared to barre chord or learning modes, the thumb technique is a cake walk

      While it’s true that some of those guitar legends used their thumbs, using thumbs generally promotes poor form and makes it harder to play barre chords. In this context, any of the other fingers could have been used just as easily.

    It's kind of an old school/classical way of thinking though. If you go to play a regular D chord, you would normally play it with the 1st 2nd and 3rd fingers, and then if you want the F# bass note, you simply put your thumb there. But your way, you have to actually rearrange your fingers and now you're using all 4 fingers, so you can't add any embellishments, such as sus4. There is a reason that jazz players play with their thumb, and it's because of the freedom to improvise chordally.

    D/F# Part is much easier with 1st Finger on E, 2nd on G and 3rd on B. Then to the open G just move 1st and 2nd or even only 2nd Finger to E 3rd fret as you don’t need the high e string for this part.

    I just learned it and love it! But what you call Bridge it does not have the same picking pattern what plays all the time from the beginning on. It is really similar but a little bit different. Rhythm change a bit as well. But it is easy to find it out what that is and sounds also better that way.
