  • It has been about ten months since the Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph was released an created another revolution in consumer chronographs. I say another in that the Xero C1 Pro is now supplanting the Labradar, which revolutionized the chronograph space in the mid-2010s when it was released.
    This is a review / discussion of the Garmin Xero C1 Pro after long-term use.

    I'm shopping for one right now. Being the CHEAP sum beach I am, I'm waiting for that perfect sale. These things are so awesome. Lab Radar is the big daddy at our range. Me thinks Garmin is going crush them in short order. Great review man, I do appreciate it a ton.

    Just ordered one that is showing up today! I know the Labradar guys got the LX out, but it seems like a rushed response to Garmin. Caldwell also has a "velociradar" that still isn't out and if it actually has the claimed down-range velocity measurement then it might be an alternative for some uses too.

    Love the Garmin super easy. Well worth the money have had others and because of how big they are being a pain to use and set up I did not use them. With the Garmin it is so compact and easy I use it all the time. One other thing to mention if you are low on Battery in a pinch you just hook portable charger up and continue to use.

    I ordered my Garmin yesterday after watching many reviews, and seeing this has convinced me I made the right choice. Comes in today and I can’t wait to use it this weekend! Great video!

    Garmin changed the game. The fact that I can pack the chrono in my pack and setup with zero effort makes it’s the new industry standard.

    I have had my Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph for two months now. When I go to the range I take that chronograph over to other people who are shooting and show them how it works. I ran into a problem today. I have been working up 300 Winchester Magnum loads using the Berger 205 grain bullet. I had no problems with that bullet. I then switched over to the Barnes 130 grain all copper bullet and the book said it was supposed to be going a little over 3,500 feet per second. The Garmin could not read the speed of that bullet. Was it because it was made from all copper? I called Garmin on my cell phone while I was at the range and he had me shoot over the Garmin as if you were using a pistol and that did not work either. They are going to look into this situation.

      I shot 22cal 40gr copper solids yesterday at 4000+ fps for fun and the Garmin picked up all ten.

    Great review. I was skeptical of a new product coming to market with virtually no problems and only high praise. Almost a year later and Garmin has proved they did something really incredible with the Xero. I plan to finally pick one up in the next few weeks since my Magnetospeed has died (and they won't warranty it outside a 2-yr period). I've used multiple Xero's, borrowing from friends, and they always just work.

      @@ocabj The 3.5mm jack for the cable is loose. For a while I could still use it if I had Dory press down on the cable to keep contact, but it eventually just stopped working. I had it apart and the way they soldered the connection onto the board, it is tucked in behind the screen that's held on with two rows of header pins. I don't have the proper tools to remove that without probably damaging something. It's too bad they didn't put the pads for the connector on the other side, it would have been an easy fix.

      The amount of money that Garmin was able to put towards R&D for the Xero, plus the fact that they already have many products with user friendly interfaces is what allowed them to create a wonderful product with reportedly very little issues from the start.
      Garmin is also known to support, improve and innovate their products so the future seems bright for the Xero.

    Does it read fps at the muzzle? If and when the battery fails does it become a paperweight?

    • @ocabj
      @ocabj  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cupcakekid It extrapolates muzzle velocity like the Labradar. If the battery dies, just recharge it (USB-C port).
      EDIT: If the battery does bad, is a good question. I'm going to guess it requires service.

    I'm a little disappointed that they haven't built out the application to do a bit more and also give the ability to further customize the screen on the Xero, but truth be told, of all the gun accessories and equipment I've bought over the past year or so, this thing is easily the top of the pile.

    The Garmin Xero C1 Pro does sound better, but I found a Labradar used for $200 on eBay. That winds up being a big price difference.

    • @ocabj
      @ocabj  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, $200 is a pretty good deal if you want to be frugal / budget minded. IMO the original Labradar is still viable. Just has a bit more overhead. If you run it with rimfire, be sure to get the external microphone accessory. It will help you out significantly.

    • @joshuabornographic
      @joshuabornographic หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ocabj Funny you mention that. I learned that the hard way, in 100 degree heat on an uncovered firing line. Fortunately, the gentleman who sold me the Labradar threw in the microphone accessory for free, so it was waiting for in the side pocket of the case.
      The Labradar does take a lot of configuration, especially on a busy firing line when you are shooting rimfire.

    I currently own a Labradar first edition, a Gamin Xero C1 pro and the new Labradar LX. I have never considered the Magnetospeed because it attaches to the barrel and I use mostly hunting rifles with no way of connecting it to the stock to avoid bullet shift. I can say that the new Labradar LX performs as well as the Garmin Xero C1 pro. It's the same price and Canadian made. It's case is aluminum. It is twice the thickness and weighs more but it is small. It comes with a tripod and charging cable and works well with the Labradar app. They are so small that I can take both the Garmin and the LX to the range so I have a backup. The Garmin is made in Taiwan while the Labradar is made in Canada. I personally believe that either of these two will work well for anyone.
    Several reviews of the LX on TH-cam that I think are fairly thorough:

    Nice to see a long term review on it. I've had mine for about 7 months now and love it. Used it mainly for bench rest shooting and some handgun. My only gripe about it is, I'd like to be able to pause a session, start another one and then go back to finish the previous one. Not an issue really, more a want. About every range trip, I see guys with them that are replacing a Lab unit. Biggest reason I've heard was the consistency of the Garmin and ease of set up. Great video sir.
