Keep a donate basket nearby so you can edit as you go!! Nothing worse than putting a garment back in rotation you dread putting on your body…

All of you live in a truly seasonal climate - could you possibly talk about seasonal items sometime? Transitional pieces and when to store them always trip me up. Where do corduroy or suede go? How do you decide what stays in rotation and when?

Buy those fabric clothing storage bags, and store your off-season clothing in them. When the weather starts changing, it tends to go back and forth, so slowly start incorporating those stored away pieces back into your wardrobe as needed, and gradually retire the current items into their own separate storage bag as you use them less and less.

My corduroys are stocked all together as I have quite a few, also with velvet trousers. Jeans are on a separate shelf. All folded. I keep everything in my wardrobe and don't separate seasonal clothes, but I do have winter coats & faux fur jackets in their own unit. I also tend to store summer sandals separate from shoes and boots. I hang/fold by colour going from whites to dark for a tidy effect. I live in London so definitely different seasons, shortish summers usually so I don't buy a lot of summer clothes

A few things I did: 1: Got all the same hangers, blush pink slim velvet ones. It took some time, but then all my clothes (I hang the majority of them) are all on the same hangers. 2: Then categorized by Type- short sleeve tops, polos, etc, 3: Then by color from light to dark for me. So I can say "Ok I want a pink top and dark blue bottom and easily find what I'm looking for. I do NOT store seasonally, as I like to mix, like a summer dress with a cable knit over the top and sneakers for Spring, or linen pants in the fall with a bootie and a button-down.
4: Also, I got this thing for my belts - like a mini merry-go-round with hooks to hang the belts from. I think it was for ties or something, but works great for belts! 5: I use a large fabric box for my knits and tend to roll them and also use a shaver to remove pills. I also dont tend to wash them, I will use Fabreeze on them and lay them flat to "air out", because I usually wear a layer under them - tank, tee, or button down for example. And same thing with blazers. I have a dresser for pajamas/loungewear, bras, underwear, socks and workout wear.

I have a special hanger with about 10 hooks to keep my belts.. in this way they are nicely displayed and easy to reach for

I mount a hanger like this flat against the wall with 1 command hook to make it even more visible. But then I don't have to have so many command hooks.

I organise my wardrobe by colour. On the outside I have greetings cards and postcards in the same colour scheme.
So it feels more like going to a special little shop which only stocks True Summer clothing in my size - no need to search through things which don’t fit or won’t suit me.
I adjust the clothes and the cards gradually as the seasons change.

Although I'm progressively decluttering, I still have too much stuff, so organisation has been key. I use little perspex drawers with felt organisers from Muji for most of my jewellery, which I keep in a small bookcase. For scarves, I use a couple of specialised hangers - one for silk and another for not silk (I've decluttered but more is required). Similarly for belts, I use a specialised hanger that lives on the back of the wardrobe door. I store out of season and special occasion clothes in another wardrobe and in packing cubes in a large blanket box/trunk.
Packing away out of season clothes (and shoes) does make it tricky when the seasons are starting to change or you are travelling to somewhere with a different season. I try to set aside a couple of transeasonal pieces and pick out my travel wardrobe before packing things away.

I would not like to have my clothes, accessories, etc. in different rooms, I keep everything in one room (spare bedroom) in wardrobes with doors so the light does not fade my clothes, I don't keep out of season clothes apart, I like to see everything I have. Careful with the electric de-piller gadget! Use only on a flat surface - I managed to make holes in my knitted gloves, so I need to remind myself to use with care and not press too hard, might switch to a comb for items like gloves in future. Thank you ladies, you're all amazing and always interesting. Best wishes from London x

By piece type (Top layers or "completers", Tops, Bottoms (pants & skirts are separated). Then by colour neutrals dark to light, colors like a rainbow!
I agree; calming, simplifies the look, and pleasing to the eye.

Oooo you are on point with organizing the closet... I’ve found hanging my belts and scarves has really helped me choose and wear them more effectively. I’ve hung my bags on hangers on a lower rail, but recently I chose to move them up high in the top of the closet shelves on display and put the seasonal storage low and on the floor. Love the more boutique feel. I need to gather my care tools in one place, cashmere comb and shaver in my laundry area, my closet ,
I have powder and roller tape, and mending in my sewing basket, scissors and double sided tape is in the bathroom 💕

    Re jewellery storage.
I have a vintage ashtray on my night stand for my every day jewellery.
And then I have two travel zip up jewellery boxes. One for costume. And a smaller on for more precious things.
And a leather watch roll for two watches.
I treat the ashtray like my capsule jewelry and then when I'm feeling uninspired. I'll pull out the boxes and the roll and shuffle things around
The watch roll and the smaller travel jewelry box come in handy for long trips too.
And since there is no big jewelry box, all these things live in the back of a drawer and stay dust free yet not out of reach
This has been working for a while for me :) and keeps my collection very minimal

I totally agree with all the clothing care tools you mentioned…..but ladies, what about our SHOES? I keep a shoe cleaning kit with mink oil, shoe polish, buffing cloths, buffing soft brush etc. I truly “invest” in top quality shoes and want them to look amazing and last as long as possible. Loving the podcast. Thank you so much😊

I like everything displayed like a store. All my scarves are out. My necklaces are organized by color hanging on little nails where I can see them. Bracelets by color in clear boxes. Earrings sorted by color in jewelry box or clear containers. Hats by color on little nails in closet. Purses hanging in closet by color on hangers. Belts are hanging on tie rack. Clothes by categories and color. All winter/fall together. All spring/summer on other side. Summer/spring shoes together by color. Fall/winter boots together by color

I am always trying to have everything for the current season displayed so that I can see it. We have a really small walk in wardrobe in our bedroom and I can see it from our bed, so I can think of what to wear the next day when I go to bed or in the morning when I get up.
Also big thumbs up for Ikea organizers for undies, socks, bras etc. ✌️👌

I can’t say enough great things about IKEA PAX wardrobe systems! We’ve now installed PAX in a secondary small bedroom of our newly renovated much smaller home. We have single rods in 3 100cm wide units with the full width wire drawers stacked beneath. As I no longer have a dresser either, the drawers fit everything, especially folding the Marie Kondo way. We also don’t have a linen closet anymore so we now store sheets and blankets in their respective bedroom closets and under the bed bins, towels in the bathroom, and the linen extras in one of the drawers in the PAX wardrobe.

HI Ladies, I use a little metal stand that turns and it's actually for jewelry but I use it for sunglasses. I also found a metal wine rack for a wall behind the closet door and hung my hats, caps, and cross-body bags. And a wooden dish rack for my flip-flops and sandals. A rectangle box houses my folded scarves I lay it on its side. Finally an over-the-door hanging rack for my maxi dresses.

I have a wardrobe and use wooden hangers for my jeans. I use the narrow hangers with a kind of velvet finish for tops. My tee shirts are rolled up in the drawer at the bottom and my knife in the next drawer and jackets in the next section. I’m been really decluttering this year and defining my style. Because I have logged what I wear for a few years I could see I hadn’t worn a lot of things for two of three years. I pack my out of season clothes in boxes on a high shelf. There aren’t many as I wear the same things but in layers most of the year, same clothes but less layers when it’s warm. I only have one dress and two summer skirts. I wear jeans every day. They’re the items I have the most of but in three sizes because I fluctuate quite a bit. My bags not in use are in bags. My favourite bags are by a Danish maker

Since I am a maximalist shoe person my shoes stay in their boxes but I attach a stick-on label with description. This allows me to stack the boxes on shelves for easy access. But I am in the process of trying to declutter my shoe inventory because I have way too many.

I think we definitely underestimate the psychology of visual cues. I forget where I read it, but apparently something like +75% of all the cues we receive in life are visual-visual advertising, seeing food stimulates hunger, see a written reminder as opposed to an audible alarm, observing body language, reading a sign etc. I think the more of your wardrobe you can see, the more likely you are to wear something and be reminded of what you have. As soon as I fold or hide away something in a drawer (though it can look more visually streamlined/appealing), I’m instantly less likely to remember what I have or use it. I think that’s also why the Marie Kondo exercise is so powerful-the visual aspect of everything we own being laid out at once. So as much as possible, I think hanging/folding in plain sight is the best policy for a wardrobe. And that also means there is nowhere to hide mess. 😜

I just found you as a trio - i love the way you interact and complement each other! ❤❤❤

Just had a big breakthrough yesterday going through ALL my clothes and setting aside anything that did not make me feel 100% happy, comfy, and confident and I am sooo happy with the results!! I feel like my personal style and beginning of a capsule wardrobe are all falling into place!! Definitely need to find a better solution for displaying my scarves!! Being a Canadian who moved to Texas I may have a few too many scarves that I don’t wear often enough haha!! 💕🌿✨

I save money and time by using the Dryel home dry cleaning kits. I can dry clean 7 sweaters at a time, or one winter coat and a couple of tops, etc. You get the hang of it once you start using it, and they smell soooo good after! I also have over the door hooks where I hang my belts and scarves. Love your podcast. I listen and re-listen, at home and in the car!

I have a small walk-in closet that I decluttered where about 2/3 of it holds my clothes/shoes/accessories and then the rest is to display artwork and books that help me feel comforted and inspired. I have photos, cards and letters, and a few mementoes out as well. Makes the space feel more boutique-like and special.

I bought Special trousers hangers, where you can put multiple trousers and flip the rag, so that you can put easily pants out. But i use this also for scarves and belts, so i only have to flip it Open and it’s easy accessible and easy to put back again. My bags are hanging on door hangers, so that i dont have to Store them in a closet (where i dont have Space anyway) and a i can See them easily at a glance🥰

No new solutions but I have my belts on command hooks on one side of my tallboy drawers. Less obvious as not seen at the entrance to the room but easily accessible to me. Also keep in use shoes on a 4 shelf bookshelf in the bedroom. Hang my jeans trousers and skirts as well as tshirts and button ups if they are folded in a drawer or on shelf I won't reach for them.

I prefer hanging to folding items. I just find things wrinkle less ( and no fold marks) and I can see everything. When I see people micro-folding items it gives me anxiety, because if I was to take say a folded t shirt out of a drawer and decided I wanted a different one, it is sooo time consuming folding it back up versus just hanging something back on a hanger.
