I just got my husband to take care of the kids for the whole evening away from home. So that I could declutter my wardrobe and spend time in my wardrobe to try things on and style them in new ways, while listening to you guys! Now I feel like I have outfits to wear for the rest of the year, and getting ready will be done in like 3 minutes now. Thank you ladies! 😊👌🏼
In terms of indoor shoes (and outfits, for that matter) you made me think of Audrey Hepburn with her simple but elegant black pants and turtleneck, plus black leather ballet slippers.
Such a good idea to look at Atomic Habits in terms of personal style. I love the idea of taking away rather than adding in order to hone into personal style. Something to investigate! Thank you all, you're wonderful together.
You have all helped me so much, both collectively on the podcast and individually on your channels. Even though I'm older, i still love fashion and now I have a curated wardrobe designed for a retirement lifestyle. Thank you!
I look forward to your podcast each week. The topics you choose are right on target! Thank you for your insights. They encourage me to keep working on my fashion goals and to continue enjoying what’s in my closet without buying more.
I started to wear indoor shoes two weeks ago. I immediately got rid of three sweaters that were past their best and that I hadn't noticed when I was just wearing slippers.
I love the idea to wear shoes while working at home! I am going to take it a step further in that I will often avoid wearing newer shoes outside if I plan to be on my feet a lot that day because I am not sure how they will feel several hours later. Wearing them at home all day will answer the question as well as “break them in”! Starting tomorrow!
Regarding “putting things away” … over the years I have heard of turning the hanger the opposite way once you have worn an item. The idea is that you have a clear visual representation of items worn that season vs not worn. I have recently adapted this idea to reflect items that are worn, can be worn again, but should be laundered before storage at the end of the season.
I work from home and love the shoe recommendation! I also like to take short 15 min walks through out the day to offset desk time. So, finding a comfortable shoe that feels good and looks cute has been an issue. I'll start building my home work outfits around my shoes. ❤
I really like that as well as intelligence you show self kindness and kindness to each other: Perhaps real personal style needs to come from love and acceptance rather than delusions of inadequacy.
I love these discussions so much. Every time I learn something about myself. Like you say It's More Than Clothes. I'm so grateful to have three lovely, knowledgeable ladies who are so down to earth come into my home regularly and make me learn and laugh. Thank you ❤
I've been working on the "third" word to go with my style descriptors of "classic" and "comfortable." What popped into my mind while listening today was "unexpected." Perfect 👌
Another lovely chat ❤ I really appreciate your different views/ realizations and support towards each other and us. I felt a special spark when Alyssa pointed out how our brains are wired to only look for what we can add to out lives, when sometimes what we really need is just the opposite. It's sooo true, but it's a long process of getting to that realization because it's completely opposing what we were thought all of our lives.
The big "G"..Gratitude 💚 so good to hear and like other things a muscle to be flexed...feeling the feeling of gratitude 🎉..practice gratitude and gives you the chance to 🤔 think...i am so glad you mentioned this..🌿
I have been taking wardrobe pictures since 2018. I take pieces and make as many combinations as possible. Having this catalogue helps to see what I can do differently. As well, it has also shown me pieces that don't work for me. I have never deleted any of these photos even when I no longer have the pieces. This allows me to remember what is my style and what is not. I have over 6700 photos. But I will be organizing them one day to separate the outfits I like and ones I don't.
Accessories- they are the game changer - matching accessories makes an outfit to me. Otherwise it’s just pieces of clothing -adding sunglasses that match the vibe of the outfit in a similar tone as your bag and shoes at a minimum really looks “styled” of course jewelry too - but matching color/ vibe adornments takes your look outfit to styled, intentional and polished That’s been my most recent revelation
Bought some Chanel ballet flats just for house wear, always feel elevated, special, chic, and stylish while home. Love looking at my feet. The shoes, after five years, still look brand new!
Great episode and definitely one to point to when starting to buy fewer clothes! I personally take advantage of my work-from-home days to experiment with those "how?", or tricky items and find ways to style them. I get to feel them out, and if they work with my indoor Crocs 😅 (might think about indoor shoes, they'd have to be quiet, though), they will work with actual shoes!!!
I work from home in fashion business since like 2014, so I have learned to wear nice shoes indoor, even sometimes the crazy heeled blue Balenciaga boots, definitely boosts confidence and makes you productive, otherwise you quickly can switch into relaxing mode or start working on some home tasks
I've pulled out some old pieces and got to wear them after years hanging in the closet, and fell in love with them again. Shopping my closet has been so helpful and it's never rushed when I'm decluttering. Love listening to you guys giving such positive vibes and much needed pep talk that we all need to hear!
Quite useful info as I also have gotten decluttered each laundry day! Am ‘curating’ my closet carefully to keep things too.. I have lost nearly 2 sizes so it’s been a challenge to move things out when I do not have much in my new size! (ie jeans, trousers). I do have many tops, sweaters, jackets, dresses that do fit and have not been worn.. ok.. in decades. Am making decisions on whether some of those are still appropriate..LOL. Quite a trip!!
I love to listen to you 3 I learned a lot about no buying month or never I have so many clothes that sometimes I don't know how to style but since I've been following your channel I learned a lot how to style and shop in my closet .Thank you and loving your channel ❤️
Alyssa, the concept "it starts with the shoes" when dressing to stay at home really resonated with me. I have a pair of shoes that I designated as slippers when I bought them but that are now looking a bit ratty and they definitely don't do anything for an outfit when I'm trying to look put-together! Time to either "demote" another pair of shoes or buy some I can dedicate to wearing only indoors! 😊
I just love listening to the three of yo❤️ You have so many great ideas. I love all your tips and ideas and have really made me look different on my clothes. The media telling us we need to add whenever we have a problem is a huge problem and it’s probably the opposite we need to remove something, minimize instead. Make life less complicated. Too much just confuses us and complicates our lives. I love the tip about better accessories Instead of more clothes. And your closet decluttering tips Signe about the “love but how” I guess that’s the main problem in many closets. We don’t use time and energy to think about and to try to style the things we bought and actually love but never use. I don’t now why it’s so difficult to break the daily dressing routine. Shopping is so easy but styling is so much harder and nobody taught us how. Some have natural skills for it but most of us don’t. And looking at Pinterest for ideas is easy but doing it yourself in real life is like something that needs something that doesn’t come easy.
I thank God for the upside of my punk-rock phase in High School. Thanks to that time, I’ve always had a really open mind in my clothes. I love thrift store shopping. I’d rather have a beautiful silver Fox fur jacket for $8 than a $30 faux fur from Walmart. I love that the punk kid in me can still find a use for American Flag canvas sneakers, and sparkly rhinestone necklaces (not together) The pitfall with my fun taste, is that I accumulate some really awesome things that I struggle to find a way to pull off. I have to make an intentional effort to gather plain things. Like soft, comfortable neutral blouses and pants.
By listening to all three of you seprately and now also together I have curated and made my wardrobe into something I loove and love working on. I have several capsuls and they are colour coordinated depending on season. I have started to have the habit to go thrue my wardrobe about once a month or if the weather change it can be more often. Taking out a colour and adding another perhaps. Also I try out new combinations as I try to have everything in each capsul be able to go with eachother. I now see it as one of my hobbies. The other two beeing gardening and reading. I also have Tuesdays for ironing, de bubbeling and polish shoes etc. Monday I wash cloths. To have one day/evening to just take care of your wardrobe is previous. When I started this process I didn’t understand how to build a capsul or anything. If I found a pair of pants or shoes I lived I could buy it and then have nothing at home that I could wear it with. I bought things willy nilly. Now everything I want is put on a wish list and very carefully thought thrue before I buy anything. Thank You for making this part of my life into so much joy ❤
Loved this episode!! In answer to your question, Alyssa's elements of style theory has improved my style and my shopping habits. I don't think I'm 100% there yet with my thinking, but applying that method to how I get dressed and especially how I shop has been a game changer. Much easier to say 'no' to something when I already have something in my wardrobe that contains that element of style ☺
As I’m listening to you, I’m playing with a new-to-me dress that I found on Vinted after a year of searching, and trying different ways to wear it and taking photos as inspo for the months to come!
Lovely episode and some new insides again😊! I am also working from home and to make sure that my work and private is separated I do get dressed up, and make sure to wear sth casual after work. This January I did a no buy for clothing and make-up and I was more creative with my wardrobe, for me it was an eye opener and to think about my personal style. Thus putting your clothing properly away is really necessary to have this overview. ❤
Regarding the chair topic: I do not like the idea to put "already used" clothes in the wardrobe, but also hate to keep them hanging around (there is designated spot). Where and how do you keep your "used but otherwise clean" clothes?
I hang them in the “front” of my wardrobe (or on a hook on the side on the wardrobe), and then I have a couple empty hangers that go between the “worn” clothes on the right separating the unworn/clean clothes on the left. It’s easy to keep track of what I wore earlier in the week to rewear on the weekend.
Ciao, vi seguo ognuna dall'Italia ma non conosco bene l'inglese, sarebbe bellissimo avere il podcast in italiano. Vi seguo con i sottotitoli ma a volte è impegnativo.
Just an observation on watching the podcast on YT - Signe is always wearing a sweater now whereas Christina and Alyssa aren't, even though it's Canada. As a Brit living in an older property I wear a sweater indoors every single day through winter. Are your homes just exceptionally well insulated Christina and Alyssa or have you got the heating blasting?
I live in snowy Maine, which has a similar climate to Toronto. We usually run supplemental heat sources like pellet stoves when we're home. The fabrics they're wearing are probably thin but well-insulated, and/or layered underneath
Having lived in Ottawa, I can tell you that most of the homes in those colder areas are well insulated and you don't have to bundle up when you're indoors.
Oh my goodness! I also have wondered many times about this! We live in upstate NY in a well-insulated home, but I wear at least 2 layers, one of which is a nice flannel shirt or a heavy sweater inside the house everyday. Cotton sweaters, even, are too cold. It needs to be wool/heavy. When I see influencers with light layers in the winter in cold climates I wonder about their heating bills! We keep our home at 69 Fahrenheit.
This is my problem trying to look cute around the house. I'm a freeze baby and living in Ohio, I'm cold for 7+ months a year. I need to wear multiple long sleeve layers and big fleece socks and it's impossible to look/feel cute.
The idea of developing habits rather than applying “hacks” is a wonderful personal sustainability approach to style.
I would like to add that your child also deserves to have a mom who feels good about herself and takes care of herself.
In terms of indoor shoes (and outfits, for that matter) you made me think of Audrey Hepburn with her simple but elegant black pants and turtleneck, plus black leather ballet slippers.

I work from home. I always wear comfortable clothes and slippers, but I put jewelry on especially nice rings.
I find it fun to add a broach to a sweatshirt. It's so unexpected and such a conversation starter. Xoxo 💕
I really liked Alyssa’s point about shoes. I agree the right style of shoes makes the outfit. It might be slippers too.
I really like that as well as intelligence you show self kindness and kindness to each other: Perhaps real personal style needs to come from love and acceptance rather than delusions of inadequacy.
100% agree - it's about progress over perfection and being empathetic and showing ourselves and others compassion as we learn and grow! ❤
I love these discussions so much. Every time I learn something about myself. Like you say It's More Than Clothes. I'm so grateful to have three lovely, knowledgeable ladies who are so down to earth come into my home regularly and make me learn and laugh. Thank you ❤

I totally need to put my hair up to get ANYTHING done 😊 luckily it's not a problem whether at home or not, but I totally get that shoe dilemma!
My three fav girls 😊
Uhmmm….., Alyssa has some wonderful belts over at Brave. I am going to get the black one with the gold buckle😊

Absolutely start with the shoes if you want to “want to get dressed” everyday. Socks are not inspiring!!
