I just got word they will release more in mid-November too - including a Mini Praxis and a button-lock Elementum! Stay tuned - I’ll probably have those here on the channel. Thanks so much for watching.
I myself have recently fell in love with "Ultem" for knife scales and had to check out what else is out there. Love that bit driver you have and appreciated you showing your other stuff too....thanks!!
Addicted to Ultem too. My most pricey item is the Schon Dsgn Rollerball Pen. Ive got it eyedroppered with an ancient bronze (burgundy) ink. Love it! No knife apart from ultem scales on my swiss army knife. Want to see more Ultem. Hoping on a small flashlight.
Actually just found out as I also ordered a stonewashed ultem SBR- lynch NW now makes replacement titanium pocket clips for protech if you have been looking. You can get them stonewashed or in a finish similar to the oem black
Just got into edc a couple months ago, I have become obsessed with Ultem as well! I feel like most people don’t like it, call it piss plastic but like you I can’t get enough!
Nice work. Personally for me it would be out of my budget for those items. I do like the thought of those products. I understand you get what you pay for. Thank you
I put some Ultem scales on a Para 3 about 2 weeks ago, and I liked them so well they became my daily carry - until I dropped it about 30” onto a wood floor. The Ultem cracked at the standoff screw. I’m quite sure I didn’t over tighten it. Probably the most important quality of knife scales must be durability. Ultem is beautiful, but it is brittle. It is, IMHO, too fragile to use for knife scales.
@@LandmanEDC IDK, but if so, they should use it. I did just order a set to replace my cracked scales, but I won’t expect them to be rugged, or to last forever. That’s how much I like them - otherwise.
It’s extremely likely that the scales you have are just plastic. Like plexiglas. You know China is calling cheap yellow plastic ultem just to make a huge profit. It’s a fact.
Every single piece in this video looks amazing! What determines the color of the ultem material, I noticed that some were rich in color while other were a little dull. Does that have too Doo with the grade/type of ultem used or more dependant on the surface treatment?
GREAT question. From what I’ve read, it depends on the manufacturer, the finishing, and the grade - just like you said. Up until now it was primarily used in medical applications.
@@LandmanEDC it is primarily used in aviation and by the military. The insides of passenger planes are made of Ultem 9085. There has been a lot of research into Ultem from the aviation industry and military and it is certified for lots of uses due to its chemical and temperature resistance and that it doesn’t release many fumes when burned and self extinguishes. The actual Ultem itself is all made by one company, but you do get different grades, you get ultem 1010 which is the highest performance and uktem 9085 which is lower performance.
Yep, if I put it in my coin pocket. I tend for forget about it that it’s so light and thin. It can take it, but I’ve only washed it a couple of times 😬
I know there is one OTF out there that’s see-through and Ultem, I just can’t think of the brand. It’s not Microtech. But year you’re right, that would be awesome
Fantastic video Chad, never heard of ULTEM until now, gotta say my interest is piqued 😂 , hope your well and I sent you an email the other day , keep it up Brother ✌🏻
Hey man had a quick question about ultem.does the transparent yellow fade because I am considering getting a knife with a clear yellow ultem handle but I worry that the sun will destroy it.
No it doesn’t fade at all. But it does weather, and can get grimy. I’ve got an Ultem keys clip and it’s gotten pretty weathered, but still hasn’t faded. Thanks for your question!
This just seems to be using Ultem for things it really doesn’t need to be used for. The main properties of ultem are temperature resistance, chemical resistance and self extinguishing when lit on fire, none of these properties are really needed for these items. Ultem is pretty expensive and plenty of other cheaper plastics would work just as well.
I understand what you mean. But your same argument could be used for a number of knife handles and steels. Micarta or G10 are probably better used in other applications too. It’s just a trend in EDC gear right now, and nothing more really.
Also, it is brittle. It cannot withstand being dropped, even a couple of feet, onto a hard surface. I am replacing my first set of Ultem scales, which cracked, with something more durable.
You must be new to the EDC Community, welcome…to the land of overly built fancy materials on products that we’ll all carry around don’t wanna use and mess up. But we love pocket dump pics😂😂
I FEEL you on this one! I thought about making a funny graphic of my money flying away several times in this video. But thank you for watching and for your comment!
That’s a great question - I’d imagine you could use some extremely fine grit sandpaper to do that. Probably 500-600 grit at least. But be sure to Google that before you take my word for it!
Yeah never said I carried all of this, and I know I would for sure have said if a company had sent me any of this for free. ALL of this I bought. With my own money. And I don’t carry it all at the same time. This was just me sharing my favorite Ultem EDC items.
@@LandmanEDC let me get this straight....because something was on sale at the time you purchased it, and you recommended it for it's quality and usefulness, you now want to potentially unrecommend it because it's no longer on sale? But yet you paid $40 some odd dollars for a bead? That seems a bit wonky to me 😆.... CountyComm makes excellent products. Not CHEAP products. That mini pen is constantly out of stock and goes quick when it's replenished. Anyhow, just my input. Not meant to be taken as an asshole or condescending by any means.
@@Stevens_EDC_Reviews When it almost doubles in price I have to ask if it’s worth it for me to recommend. And I don’t think it is in this case. I appreciate your honesty, and you’re right - probably shouldn’t have recommended it in the first place then, and County Comm does make excellent products. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
To each his own man. It’s just a neat aesthetic fad in EDC stuff right now. And for the record, not all Ultem products are expensive. The Civivi knives with Ultem scales aren’t that expensive. Certain retailers put a premium price on the Ultem products, but not all of them.
Never heard of Ultem before. Now I can't stop searching for EDC items with Ultem. Thank you!!!
Man you are welcome. It’s a great material. Some love it, some hate it. Thanks for your comment!
Civivi has released several knives with ultem scales extremely affordable as well.
I just got word they will release more in mid-November too - including a Mini Praxis and a button-lock Elementum! Stay tuned - I’ll probably have those here on the channel. Thanks so much for watching.
Wow was just looking at a Civivi knife in ultem but didn't know much about it. Cheers for the tip :)

I want a flashlight too! Wonder why no one has done that yet. Appreciate you watching and sharing.
My Friend’s favorite color is yellow, I’ll show him this video!🤟
Yeah this is about as yellow as you can get, and it’s translucent. It’s neat man! Cheers!
I got the dango pill container it’s amazing and holds more than most normal containers
It does, I agree! Thanks for watching!
Yeah I need one of those for my one a day pill that I often forget to take with me! Love the yellow amber color like honey.

I don't get that criticism, it's amber colored. Do those same people look at a piece of polished amber and call it a piss rock?

Right I understand that. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Appreciate you watching!
We can get Ultem in Black as I believe you will know by now. I love it because it feels great and seems to mold itself to the writing style...G

The Ultem Elementum is very nice. Thanks for your comment!
Stiff and look clean yet tougher than G10
Yep, absolutely - now I want them to see if they can do Ultem in different colors!

It seems to me a buffing wheel would be the right tool… though Ultem, or PEI scales are fairly cheap ($20-$30), so can easily be replaced.
