- In today's cello lesson, I will share with you the way I practice double stops. Double stops can be very messy and painful, but it's one of the most important cello techniques so it's very important to dominate them. But how to do that? You will discover that in today's cello lesson. And by applying this technique, your double stops WILL improve!
Hope you enjoy and take notes out of it!

Frank Miller suggested to me that I place 70% of the bow on the lower string. It creates MUCH less drag and one can move to bow easier plus hear the double stop better. This tech is esp. helpful playing octaves.
Absolutely! 100 % agree! That’s what I am doing! I find it such a pity I never met Mr. Frank Miller. So fortunate you are!

@@IliaLaporevcellist certo mestre, estarei aguardando
When I play double stops, from frog to tip, AND…..keep the bow parallel to the bridge, I seem to feel it in my shoulder, elbow, etc. Especially on the A string. Is that normal or am I missing something?! Thank you!!!
question: how necessary are scales i.e double stops or even just diatonic scales? wouldn't it be better to just practice a piece that has scales and double stop in them already and thus have more practice time to perfect repertoire?? r do scales help refine bowing technique?
Bravo again!!
What cello case is in the background? Carbon Fiber??
Thank you Steven! That case is actually a GEWA Pure Cello Case Polycarb. It’s very cheap and it looks nice 😃
@@IliaLaporevcellist bravo, thank you soooo much... I'm checking into !!!
Just a question
Do you have any tipps for a good colophonium?😊
Of course! Here are a few of good colophonium that I always have in hand: Bernardel, Kolstein. But the one I use now it became my favourite one: Cecilia Sanctus (not cheap!). Sometimes I like to use Double Bass colophonium when I need to play heavy stuff 😂
@@IliaLaporevcellist I will order them, thanks
How do you add vibrato to a double stop? Is it the same as a single string x 2?
Kind of. Of course there is a slight difference. Not really a question I can answer typing ;) But basically my answer would be yes.
Please make a video on double stop vibrato. 😊
@SpiritualFreemasony on the list now, thanks for the suggestion!
@@IliaLaporevcellist Especially the last five chords in Bach's Dm #2 Prelude! 🙂 Many thanks!
