Who is your favourite cellist from this list? And why? Comment below! 🌹🌹🌹
Francoise Groben e Sol Gabetta!
I had the honor of studying with Wendy Warner-marvelous, caring, and her talent is supernatural!
Jacqueline du Pre and Zara Nelsova
Zuggia not only studied with Pau Casals, she also played his cello eventually. She is a one of the favorits.
Your list is inspiring, Inbal Segev is sheer talent and expression! Sol Gabetta is also a powerhouse. SO many beautiful artists all in their unique way, just like you! Thank you for sharing! You inspire us!
jacqueline Du Pré is one of the really greates cellists. I remember about her interpretation of the elgar-Celloconcerto.
Inbal Segev is an absolute sorceress on cello. she is amazing!! I am hugely influenced by her playing. she has a TH-cam channel and I have spoke to her through comments she is beautiful, warm and elegant as a person too!
I currently study with Wendy Warner and she never stops to impress me when she demonstrates/performs.
I heard for the first time Brahms' cello sonata for cello with Wendy Warner, so I went to get the video on TH-cam and found it spectacular, too beautiful, the cello looked like part of her body from so much mastery of the instrument
Before Guilhermina Suggia, a French cellist named Lise Cristiani was touring and performing as a professional cellist in the 1840s. She sadly died of cholera in Russia while on tour. There isn't a lot of information about her online, but Felix Mendolsson's Song without Words (the manuscript is titled as a Romance without Words) Op. 109 is dedicated to her.
Another favorite woman cellist of mine is Raphaela Gromes, a German cellist whose beautiful album Femmes is inspiring people to play and listen to more women composers.
My favourite is Jacqueline du Pré. I love her passionated play. To me she brought every piece she played "alive" - and deeply touching.
I’d like to give it a shout to Anastasia Kobekina (particulary with her Rococo Variations) and Lucia Swarts, hearing them is really really worth it, I strongly recomend it
I had the privalege of playing in a masterclass with Wendy Warner just a few weeks ago!! Her tone is absolutely miles ahead of any other cellist I know. I have the privelage of taking lessons with her now. An absolutely brilliant cellist and wonderful person.
You should have mentioned Raya Garbousova because of her legacy as a cellist and all the pieces written for her like the Barber Cello Concerto
Interesting, didn’t know that Barber concerto was written for her. Actually, she was supposed to be in the video…but copyrights…
Christine Walevska should have been in this video an extraordinary Cellist. I just saw her Student Sol Gabetta. Christine Walevska’s numerous recordings on Phillips label are phenomenal. Dvorak, Saint Saens are 2nd to no one.
Amazing video! Glad to see 장한나 (Han-na Chang) here!
I had lessons with Natalia Shakovskaya when I was studying for a year in Moscow. She was a extraordinary woman and very strict!
Mari Fujiwara. Sara Sant’Ambrogio. Sharon Robinson. Christine Walevska. Marcy Rosen.
I had a lesson with Françoise Groben and she was as kind as talented. We miss her 🩵
Rostropovich said that the only student he had who had the potential to surpass him was Jacquline Du Pre. She is for sure a contender for the greatest player ever male or female. Incidentally her name actually originated from Jersey Channel Islands rather than France. I definitely think Beatrice Harrison and May Mukle deserved a mention. Two of the greatest female cellists in the world in the early 20th century.
Anastasia Kobekina. For me she is the queen of the queens ahah
😂DuPre for her interpretation of the Rococo Variiations. Today we should consider Weilerstein. Thanks for presenting this topic. Nelsova is also one of my favorites.
thanks for this video - i didn't know about Han Na Chang wow what a virtuoso
Wow, that is incredible. thank you for sharing the stories of the great.
Good for you! ❤👏
Zara Nelsova was everything: perfection, talented, a sound like no other and truly The Queen of Cello.
She's been my inspiration, and I wish I had 1% of her talent. I will die, and I shall never see another like her.
❤🎻 may her beautiful soul rest in peace. I miss her.
One of the greatest of all time is Christine Walevska. She is an American classical cellist. She is known for her numerous recordings with Philips Records and performing concerts worldwide. In 1975, she became the first concert musician to perform in Cuba under the regime of Fidel Castro.
Thank you for mentioning! I have to confess I did not know her until you mentioned. Thank you again!
A comment to promote the video. Thank you for developing content for cellists
Nadège Rochat, Camille Thomas, Hayoung Choi. 👍🏻
Thank you for a nice video. I knew most of these wonderful woman cellist allready, but I also learned to new some new. But for the next time, do mention also Anastasia Kobekina.....my favorite cellist of that generation...
Wonderful subject! I love the professional anecdotes as I myself am just a passionate cello amateur. Your videos are so generous! The cello passion is so communicative in them, Please never stop sharing more!
I will never stop! Thank you so much for your support!
From this list hard to pick a favourite. Gabetta is like the Queen, and Segev has these amazing Bach interpretations so full of life. I would say to anyone else, of course Camille Thomas and Anastasia Kobekina are good to listen to also. Astrig Siranossian, is like my speciality pick though. She has a very unique take on cello performance as well as being an amazing singer.
Fabuloso y genial video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Joan Jeanrenaud of the Kronos Quartet - a brilliant cellist and equally brilliant teacher.
Thanks a lot.❤🎉🎉
Hi there you need to look at Douglas Cameron , Douglas Cummings ,Tim Hugh, Christopher van Kampen
Excellent video Ilia! greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Muchas gracias! Saludos! 👋🏻
All them influent for me, but mainly DuPré and Gutman. But I miss the canadian Ofra Harnoy at this list too
Maria Kliegel is my favorite!
Anna Comellas . From Beale + Finch
Cecylia Barczyk has achieved international recognition as a successful cellist, teacher, and humanitarian. She has given concerts, recitals, and master classes throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America.
Sol Gabetta is my favorite cellist currently.
She was a student of Christine Walevska!
Thank you for this fantastic video. I discovered Francoise Groben and France Springuel who do not seem well known in north America...and this is unfair. What phenomenal cellists! What about Anne Gastinel?
France Springuel!! ❤❤❤
Sol! ❤
Great video Ilia. Ik heb nieuwe namen geleerd! En er zitten meerdere favorieten tussen, ik kan niet kiezen. Verder hoop ik op de Gofriller video….
Natalia Gutman tem um som incrível ❤❤
Hello Ilia, you forgot Anna Kobekina in you list of great women cellists. But hopefully you mention my prefered one Jacqueline Dupré.
These are some of my favorite female cellists. Tina Guo, Camille Thomas, Anastasia Kobekina, Youn kyung Cho, Elli Faidley, Ella Wimbiscus. Thank you again so much for sharing your favorite female cellists, Ilia!
I like Annie Jacobs Perkins, she has such cute and funny face expressions when playing.
Two more: Anastasia Kobekina and Ophelia-Gallard (I think it is How is written😅)
Thanks for mentioning them! Of course! God, there are so many great musicians over there 😅
Christine Walevska! My teacher. Known for her interpretation of Dvorak concerto. Studied with Maurice Marechal, Gregor Piatigorsky, and other giants. She taught sol Gabetta. Has many world famous recordings.
I nominate Nadège Rochat.
Anne Gastinel. ❤
😱😱😱 I forgot about her!
@@IliaLaporevcellist And Bonnie Hampton. I like her Haydn D.
❤
Please add Lisa Cristiani to your list. She was probably the first professional woman cellist.
I did not know her until you mentioned! Thank you so much for mentioning!
I have a soft spot for Beatrice Harrison.
Gutman is the best!
One hears more of Mr Laporev speaking than of the lady cellists playing ...
One must present them 🤷🏻♂️
It's to reference the work, not to present the entirety of the piece. Best to look it up. A short list isn't designed to full listening.
Xenia Jankovich also
Yes, I was thinking about her! Amazing cellist!
Ofra Harnoy?
😮 6:05 onwards…
I believe Camille Thomas should have been included.
Jacqueline is the best :)
Anastasia Kobekina
Of course! Anastasia! Didn’t think about it! There are just so many! 😂
Sonia Wieder Atterton
Raya Garbousova!
Anna Litvinenko
Nadege Rochat
Camille Thomas
I'm going to add to the Natalies. Natalie Haas, the Queen of Folk Cello. Wrote the book on cello in fiddle music, and she has perfected techniques no other cellist has ever thought of.
Thanks for mentioning! Never heard of but will discover her now!
Ilia Im trying to reach you
Great video Ilia 😊 I enjoyed a lot! I don't know if she was considered a great cellist but Beatrice Harrisson recorded the first Elgar cello concerto with Elgar himself as a conductor
th-cam.com/video/f2xreI0Ot0s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jRZlIJeUcothTcu7
Although I was expecting magnificent Jaqueline Dupré, I though it would be interesting to mention 🎉❤have a great cello journey on this earth!💕
Another person here to mention @inbal segev she is truly a goddess on the cello
