There's almost no national government involvement (approval of permits, maybe) in that project as tommy osmeñas goal at that time is to slap a fact to the national government who when asked for the needed help turned cebu down and denied any assistance after the onslaught of typhoon ruping! (That denial of help was during the yellow santa bullcrap of the liberals administration) Tommy wants to show the national government at that time that cebu city doesnt give a damn and can stand on its own! Through enough, cebu's rapid economic growth started after the onslaught and tommy's cold heart appraoch at the national government was undeniable.

    Checking the comment sections, I can already see the what future the Republic of the Philippines will have if WW3 breaks out and somehow "survives".
    Long story short - there is no more "Republic of Philippines" but rather multiple republics based on either present day provinces, regions, race/language, religion, or other.
    On the other note, maybe Japan could also help the country by telling how they are handling a similar rivalry, between Kanto region (which includes Tokyo), and Kansai region (which includes Osaka.)

      Why regret? Cebu's malls are bigger than most malls outside Manila. SM has never regretted building SM Seaside as Cebu has more developed market in the VisMin region. You can see the current construction activities everywhere.

    • @noeltv3728
      @noeltv3728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lionhearted1969 : why regret? Compare the number of shoppers going to SM Seaside to that of SM City Cebu; the forrmer(Seaside)has fewer shoppers. The success of a mall greatly depends on how many are patronizing it. Large crowds mean large income. Small crowds mean small income.

    • @Tagohala
      @Tagohala 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they probably take a loss but that's how business is, you have too take risk for the long term. If the competition take that spot and build it's brand they're. Then take the entire market of that area in the future. Imagine the opportunity being wasted by them all because they won't take risk. ✌

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@noeltv3728 It's because you don't understand business. You're not a businessman. Henry Sy and other hardline businessmen know their business. Otherwise they would have been out of business by now. When SM City Cebu started its construction in 1989 in North Reclamation Area, many people were also very skeptical about the feasibility of the mall as the area then was mainly empty as NRA was just completed. But after 5 years, the mall started to attract shoppers from as far as Mindanao and other Visayas regions. Similarly, Henry SY built SM Seaside because as a businessman he sees the future of Cebu. Look at the frenetic construction activities around SRP today if you're still skeptical about the SM-Ayala project. The Isla dela Victoria by UHRI is shaping up fast and it is a mix-used project consisting of 4 hotel towers, a luxury mall, a casino, a theme park, convention center, a theater, a marina and a cruise ship port. Most businessmen know that Cebu economy would continue to grow and its market becomes increasingly more wealthy as more industries such as shipbuilding and export-oriented industries continue to pour in. Similarly, Ayala is also bullish about Cebu that it has two other upcoming township projects (now both under construction) in partnership with local developers like the Gatewalk Central in Mandaue City and the Seagrove Mactan across Shangri-La Mactan. SM Seaside City may be almost empty by now because of Covid, but before Covid, it has more traffic than SM City Cebu had from 1993-1995. So just chill. These businessmen or business conglomerates know what they're doing in Cebu. That's why they are concentrating only in Cebu because this is the only place outside Metro Manila area where economy is steadily growing and its market becoming more sophisticated. Don't you know that Cebu's GRDP is estimated to be equivalent, if not bigger, to the whole island of Mindanao? And take note, Mindanao has 27 provinces and its total land area is more than 20 times larger than Cebu. Moreover, Mindanao has 25.5 million people or 8 times more populous than Cebu which only has 4.6 million people.

      The right way to put it is! Cebu's Potential is greater than any Island in the Philippines. The answer is simple. Geography, it's a very strategic location at the center of the country. You can deploy anything anywhere in the country in the shortest amount of time possible. That's important ether for military and commercial in nature. Not to mention the Plus side of Cebu. Which is culture, nature and history for tourism. Also Education, Health, and Engineering is pretty stablish as well. Which prompting investigators not that hard of a choice imo. ✌
