The commentator's curse! Rookie mistake! Dear, oh dear! But I'll let it go. A great mate of mine always says it's only a mistake if you don't learn from it... I've seen Irish vets using cocktail sticks too, but they snap off just a half inch and stick it in so they're harder to get caught on something and get knocked out. Great video as always. We used to put elastic bands around the back of the horns to put pressure on the artery to the horn. Used long skinny cable ties the last few time I did and it worked great. (But you do have to cut them off the next day) also a sharp tennon saw works much faster and easier than the cutting wire. We used to buy a lot of cattle from the mart here in Ireland. Many of which would have horns left on as calves.😢 now suckling and (try to) disbud all our calves.
No these are just big dairy X calves who slipped the net. The works would likely have an issue with the horns but the time they are big enough to send.

So, they take the time to dehorn a bull because they’re going to keep him?
