    You did a good job. Warms my heart to see you giving the pain relief. Shows your humanity.

      I barely have humanity if giving pain medicine beforehand is something that represents humanity.

    Great Video. He is really good with his cattle. Quiet, calm, and gets the Job done quickly and effeciently. NO Need for the bad language.

    It's worth buying some metacam to jab them with at the time of de-horning in my opinion, we find it works very well in reducing the pain and keeping them happy and eating after the process. For larger horns like the ones you removed we wire them off after being anaesthetised then use the large copper type dehorners that are manually heated with a gas lamp from a bottle, the small calor dehorner you're using we also have, but we find it works better on the young calves as the flame can sometimes burn the ears when used on an angle.

    For those of you concerned about cows naturally growing horns, aurochs had horns because it was a necessity for surviving in the wild. The domestic cow doesn't need its horns the same way humans don't need wisdom teeth. The process here seems very similar to removing wisdom teeth.

      except one has anesthesia and the other doesn't

      the cattle get anisthetic and have a much higher pain threashold than humans when the stuggle and make a noise it isnt so much the pain but more the shock

      Chris Donoghue a person having a tooth removed and these cattle both get anesthetic. You can even see him injecting the Anesthetic at the base of the ear.

    Thats another job I havn't seen for years, when we were involved in the 70s' it was a wire saw and the iron was heated in coals. I do like the respect you and the team show to the animals, having seen some cattle move the crush it's nice to see nice calm animals. Galvanised metal hurts when it comes into contact with the bonce, trust it didn't knock any out!!!!!

    Now, for all those people who think this is animal abuse... Horned cattle, when they are older and weigh over half a ton, can be very dangerous, especially if they are unhandled. Horns can easily bruise the animal, other animals, as well as people who work with them. These people in this video are responsible, use a local anaesthetic and perform the procedure with little stress on the animal. However, these cattle should have been dehorned at a younger age, it would have been a little easier on both them and the handlers. Even so, these guys treated each animal with respect. I am happy with that. Now, before you people piss and moan, I've worked with cattle for almost five years now, looking for a career in the beef industry, doing stuff similar to this. Additionally, there are certified organisations who approve of certain methods of procedures such as dehorning, castration, slaughter, etc. These people are doing everything here correctly. So, think before you comment, and grow up.

    Don't give up on this. Sure there are no directions and they do not speak English, but the guy hitting his head was due to the physic power of cattle. The cow escaping from the head catch was equally hilarious.

      no not one bit the horns are unesscary and dangerous for the ranchers around the bull

  • @ashboy225
    @ashboy225 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    We use a cordless dewalt reciprocating saw with a metal blade, it works a treat for the large horns, they come off in an instant saving the cow extra stress... **Cows do get a anaesthetic in each side just below the horn to remove pain and time for it to set in**

    as one of the "some" mentioned in the above description, let me clarify something here:
    what I (can't speak for others) consider cruel, unjust and uneconomical is not how each individual rancher or farmer or butcher deal with their animals. As a general rule, there are good and bad human beings in every walk of life. There are good Nazi prison guards who spared what compassion and mercy they could for their prisoners. And I respect them for that.
    This however did not detract from what I think of Nazism nor what I think of human's preference for animal consumption and the industry that use systematic imprisonment, torture and killing to satisfy that preference. That said, meat consumption and ranch farming is not going away tomorrow.(none of us here are living to see that day) So, for a starting point, maybe we can make sure every ranch uses anaesthetic on dehorning their animals, make it law. That would put pressure on people who does not care for their animals' pain. Why should they have a competitive edge on more professional ranchers?
    I sadly cannot find much enjoyment in this video, for it is the removal of a natural (some would even say beautiful) part of an animal's body. But I do find it informative and necessary for understanding the reality. My personal thanks to you and the best wishes to your business.

      ahadicow I don't see anything wrong with this vid but I'm a farmer so im used to seeing it

    • @ahadicow
      @ahadicow 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If precisely nothing is wrong with a cattle in its natural state, no one would be dehorning it. if precisely nothing is wrong with dehorning a cattle, no one would be bothered to put on pain-killers. So we all see something wrong here whether it is the horns, the pain or the fact that these animals live to be slaughtered.

    Cannot figure out why Horn to be removed? Compared to money earned from their live stock or (hide), animal's has no significance. Sheer human Greed, no consideration to animal's welfare.

      ***** So far to my knowledge, there were no recorded incident so far that Bull or Cow with Horn has killed human. Even if you take an extreme Bull gorging festival in the Spain. At the end only Bull lose his life. How about some try to remove your Nail from fingers or Toe?

      They're manageable at that size but what about when fully grown? And it also prevents self injury and the injury of other stock.

    • @kieranfeatherstone9861
      @kieranfeatherstone9861 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Imran Khan if a young stirk or cow catches the horn in a feed barrier for example and breaks ...this will cause extreme pain for the animal and the horn will likely become infected meening even more pain. so its the best idea to remoove with a pain killer aswell (as shown in video)

      Let me guess. You are a vegan. This is no cruelty. The herferds can't feela thing from the shot he gave them. They remove the horns for the animals saftey and for the rancher's saftey. if the cows have horns they could gore someone or they could get a fellow cow. it is just hilarious to see you city kids try to say what we do is wrong.
