This is why the Fleece coolant bypass is so rad. It fixes 4 well known, common issues with the 5.9L's.
1.) Deletes the heat exchanger, which as said in the vid, can & has failed which will lead to coolant in your transmission & worst case scenario - you now need a new trans...
2.) Adds a secondary t-stat to the back of the block, which helps cylinders 5 & 6 shed heat, which can cause issues due to the OE coolant flow design.
3.) Replaces the freeze plug at the back of the block which in many cases, is known to blow out.
4.) Deletes the piping/tubing that connects the heat exchanger to the water pump & heater core. Known to leak.
    Bonus: looks badass. 😎

I just did this yesterday. Cut the line and turn the fitting on the heat exchanger, it will turn the adapter out of the exchanger and you can separate the adapter and fitting nut on the work bench.

do you have to run a fleece coolant bypass in order to remove the heat exchanger?

It happens all the time I have a 1st gen drw w350 2nd gen 24v 2500 and a six seven 3rd gen drw 3500. Once you do one thing you have to do like 12 other things. That filter is just a stock 727 filter it's what the 48re used before the over drive was added to it .

Not to tell you what to do but you could of drilled a hole in the stock transmission pan and if you were ever gonna get rid of the truck and take off the deep pan they sell a plug to plug the hole you drill in the stock pan so the stock pan will have a drain plug just a suggestion

Nice video I was hoping to find one that showed where to cut the tranny cooler line at. FSD didn't show that. I think another option could be to use thread sealant instead of the tape. Nice video and much thanks!!

What did you do about the hose that runs out of the firewall into the splitter that connects to the block and the heat exchange.......... Because I have the Pan where the coolant runs through the bottom of it and I was wondering how to connect everything correctly

Do you have to drain the transmission to change the 2 fittings for the braided lines..... I was wondering if I could do the heat exchanger delete before I change the Pan

Hey Marcus, I really appreciate your video content. I am currently installing a 5.9 long block in my 2006 2500. this is my daily driver and overland travel rig and some light towing. I have deleted the trans heat exchanger, and I have added the full send diesel lines and a new trans cooler up front. the original was leaking,(Imagine That!) anyway my question is living here in the NW Washington State Tacoma area. should I add the deep pan on the transmission at this time or drive it and see what my insight reads on the trans temp. Thank you for your response. Michael Dean

Deep pan shouldn't hurt, just know that in the colder months, especially in the nasty winters, deeper pan = more fluid, & more fluid = longer warm up times. Without the heat exchange to heat your ATF faster, you gotta be gentle on your trans til it comes up to temp.

Are you suppose to put Teflon tape on the fittings on the tranny cause I just got done with mine and it’s leaking just alittle bit out of the fittings
