Great job on the stone walk way! I was able to get up to my property this weekend and progress is coming along. I was pleasantly surprised this visit the bugs were at a minimal. Earlier in the year I had to wear a head net. Boy I'll tell ya this morning I took my lawn chair up to my clearing with a thermos of coffee and just sat back and took it all in. What a treat that was. Cant wait for longer visits up there.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 I remember one of your videos where you talked about the serenity of being alone in the wilderness and that certain feeling about it. I enjoy people but there's nothing like enjoying that time to yourself listening to the sounds of the woods.
The Rain water really adds up coming of that roof. I believe a inch of rain over one acre is over 27,000 gallons. Hard to believe but we all should be collecting. Thank you for another great video.
Great point! I know my ten feet of rain gutter provides 5 gallons of water with a tenth of an inch of rain. In a hard downpour it fills a bucket pretty fast.
I used to work as a bookkeeper for a water tank/system contractor. He put in large tanks and the pipes/plumbing at country properties. He put in a system at my place, too. He only installed tanks and pipes that were dark green or black to avoid algae growth. He said the white tanks allow light in that grows the algae. He literally spray paints the pipes a dark color as the drinking water pipes were white. I had him install an ozone ultraviolet light water purifier system, too. I am kind of surprised to see how many youtube homesteaders use white water storage tanks. It's always a joy to visit your cabin. Keep up the good work!
I would imagine white/clear is used to easily determine how full the tank is and if the tanks are stored in a dark place then the threat of algae growth is minimized.

They last about 36-48 hours. You should look into one, it doesn't weigh 1 pound probably and make it easy for hiking etc.
Shabbat Shalom from Israel. We have been using bats as a natural way to check the mosquito population. You might want to place bat houses around your property. My drinks are all sugar free but that still leaves the pies. These bull flies are easy to kill. We have what we call horse flies in Illinois and they are so fast it is hard to swat one.
I saw a comment in fur fish and game this month from a guy up your way That said because of a hawk on every power pole and a owl in every tree that grouse numbers are way down. Evidently grouse eat and keep the tick population in check. I found that interesting.
As an avid bird watcher I can assure you that hawks and owls are hard to come by. The Ruffed Grouse population has a 10 year cycle but a wet cold hatching time can also drop numbers.
I remember those flies, they would pester us no end when we tried to go for a walk late summers at our cabin. When I was a boy, I used to handle them in a kind of disgusting way, they seemed to go for the head most, and I would try in vain to swat them away, then I learned that if I held still, they would land, get caught in my messy tangle of hair, then I could swat them, not too hard though. We were in the lake several times a day, so that took care of any residue.

I have to get off of my horse and step on them, even then they will get up again unless I work hard to make sure they are done for.
I need to take the parts home because it has a brass liner and a little different size than standard. Last time I cut up a leather glove and make a custom one. When I got the cabin there was only a stovepipe in that hole and you dropped in coffee pot tied to a 8 foot stick.
A hundred pounds of granular bug killer in a broadcast spreader with the broadcast gate wide open and you walking behind at a brisk pace, just before a good rain, will knock those bugs down for quite awhile. Maybe good for a month.
With all the bugs there the bats would soon be to fat to fly. The worst I ever saw was the Congaree River Swamp near Columbia, South Carolina. Deer flies would swarm around you head so thick you could hardly see through them and the mosquitos had to wait their turn.
Hey Martin, great video again. Just wondering if you ever have to go to a town nearby to shop for supplies or is it too far away to do that and you need to bring everything when you arrive.
Not sure which witch one as I had many around. Orange and black was a Fiskars, Red and Black was a knockoff, the double and single wood handles have no names that I know of.
If you shoot him in the head a couple times maybe. 12 gauge deer slugs will do it right now. I use a tactical 12 gauge with slugs for home defense. I’m not fooling around with anything on 4 legs or 2 that make the mistake of paying me a visit uninvited. Plus just racking a round into the chamber will make pee puddles when they hear it.
Thanks for showing the painting. You made my day.

@@TheNorthwoodsman1 If there is a brand and model number that would help.
👍😃✌️
A hundred pounds of granular bug killer in a broadcast spreader with the broadcast gate wide open and you walking behind at a brisk pace, just before a good rain, will knock those bugs down for quite awhile. Maybe good for a month.
I play in a thousand acres so willing to put up with them. Fortunately I do not itch from a bite or have any other sign from a deerfly or mosquito.
That squirrel motel that you have, how much do you charge them for an overnight stay?
They can't get in anymore, thankfully.
would love to strap on some snow shoes and bring my daughter and wife to meet you there in the winter....or any season really.
That would be cool! The logistics would be the hardest part. I think that a guest cabin is going to open up a lot of possibilities.
Have you ever thought of planting some mint to combat the mosquitos?
No, have to see if it will grow up there.
With all the bugs there the bats would soon be to fat to fly. The worst I ever saw was the Congaree River Swamp near Columbia, South Carolina. Deer flies would swarm around you head so thick you could hardly see through them and the mosquitos had to wait their turn.
I wish my bull flies ate them.
Martin your the man ,my good looking divorced aunt wants to meet you ,but I told her your married.
Exactly how good looking? Asking for a friend...
Very, for 50 years now!!!! LOL The wife
Martin why not open up the road by trimming the trees back and then you drive right in to the cabin. Put a gate at the opening down the road
Hey Martin, great video again. Just wondering if you ever have to go to a town nearby to shop for supplies or is it too far away to do that and you need to bring everything when you arrive.
I have never had to go to town to resupply. It would be a 70 mile round trip and break the cabin spell.
Marty did you ever fix that floor like you said
I fixed the squeak but the new floor boards will be way down the road.
I see you sport a lot of Ireland Shirts and your music choice reflects it also. I’m guessing you have Irish Lineage. 1st generation?
My great-grandfather came over about 1850 as a small child from the county Carlow area.
Hey Martin...I'm an axe guy...what's that axe leaning by the door on your cabin? Looks like a Plumb maybe...
Not sure which witch one as I had many around. Orange and black was a Fiskars, Red and Black was a knockoff, the double and single wood handles have no names that I know of.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 ok thanks...I also checked out revival in Belfast...downloaded it on my phone
I use a .357 magnum for self defense. I’m sure it would stop a bear.
Clevelands Johnsons 😂😂
Clevelands Johnsons , your confidence exceeds your knowledge.
Bear guides seem to like 12 guage slugs for the knockdown power. Dirty Harry aside even heavy loads in my 44 magnum is a popgun in comparison.

Are you saying a .357 won't kill a bear?
