My father taught me to always respect my elders , so I'm not going rant about safety with your axe. I really love listening to the wisdom of my elders too. I grew up in MN on a little homestead and was glad to leave in 1977 to more to Oregon. I found your videos and didn't really care for them. And then............... they started to grow on me. Now I look forward to watching them. I feel that you have peace in your life that I wish I had. Thank you. I am 70 years old now and the sand in the bottom of my hour glass is a lot more than in the top. Your peace seems comforting.

Thank you for sharing your video. My favorite childhood memories were spent with my grandparents in our cottage in Higgins Lake, MI. We'd fish for perch, grandpa would clean them on a board atop two burn barrels, and grama would pan fry them. Rustic cottage with log walls and fireplace.

Yes, it is a survivalist cabin, it has wood, a stove and a non-leaky roof with a few creature comforts, enough to live in if need be. Am glad you take care of it to enjoy the wilderness and all it has to offer. Love the shot with you facing the cabin and feeding the birds, so peaceful & natural.

Hi James, I am glad that you enjoy the cabin videos. It is such a great place I and love to share it with others. When I started doing them my plan was to have them to look at when I could no longer get up there. Others have enjoyed them so much that I make an extra effort to get all the special moments on film that I can. My home life video was unscripted and is very truthful and I am very thankful for that.
Wiseman, to take prayer time. A good book to read is wild at heart. It basically is going over what you were doing. Sometimes it is good to be with nature and consider her ways,It draws us closer to the Lord.
MAN, I know exactly what you are enjoying!! Got a cabin over in the mountains of Western North Carolina and have , up untill I experienced some life changing illness, spent many wonderful days there! Now, I'm forced by circumstance to put it on the market and hopefully the next person can enjoy it as much as I did! She's a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the quiet of life!

I know it lowers mine, I can tell my wife I need to get to the cabin for health reasons. Some of my friends had high pressure jobs and they really relished the peace up there.

Nice cabin. Looks a lot like the one we lived in. I am now renting it again, as well as in town's rent. Might move back, despite an unmaintained road except for my neighbor helping out
I used to use the same system for splitting kindling, but now I drive a double bit axe into the stump, hold the wood on the upper edge, and hit it with a home made wooden mallet. I can be a lot more accurate that way, to get fine kindling. The mallet is just a round sawed out of an oak log, with a handle driven into a drilled hole.
I worked with my father in the woods from the time I was 14 years old. At dinner time we would always take the time to hand feed the gray jays. It was just one other thing my father and I shared. I am not sure what happened to all the gray jays here in Nova Scotia and NewBrunswick. Over the past 30 years I seen only one gray jay. They seem to disappear since the department of natural resources sprayed the spruce bud worm. From one woodman to another, I enjoy your videos.

For weather I use a Noah weather radio as most radio stations are pretty sad when it comes to the info I want. I like classic country and and AM 600 from Jamestown, ND comes in very clear all day. At night WBBM out out Chicago lets me hear what is going on near home in IL.

The wood at the cabin splits so easy the tire would work fine, the cabin is so remote there are no tires to be had, thanks.
