    Shifted to YT Music a couple of years now. And loving it since. Yes, for the most part, Spotify is better, but I can't complain as YT Music is bundled with YT Premium, so I couldn't complain more.

    Thanks for making the comparison! Your criticisms are definitely valid.
    I personally still love TH-cam Music, though. They've been adding new features and making UI/UX improvements (some questionable ones, too).
    I wish we could have a crossfade feature like spotify (surprised you didn't mention this). Also, a public API would do wonders for the development community and open the doors for cool third-party products.

    valid criticisms but i'll still go for YTMusic all day long just because of the infinite library it has thanks to its integration with TH-cam itself. It's something no other platform will ever match. also the fact that i'm paying 2 services for the price of one is a no brainer.

    My big plus for YTM over any other platform is that my playlists that I have been accumulating over the years exist automatically on YTM, and I do not have to go through the effort of finding all the music on other platforms to put together the massive playlists I have.

    You were spot on with all of this. I have been using YT Music for a year or so now, and I agreed with every point made in the video. When I needed to cut costs on things, I found out YT Music was included with Premium, so cutting off Spotify was the easy choice to make. I do miss having Spotify though just because I've had that account for 10+ years at this point, so the recommendations were actually good. Having to start all that over with YT Music really sucks.

    Since this is a series now, looking forward to Amazon Music comparison! I've been using amazon music because I have a "big family" but had a lot of frustrations. Would be interested to see how it compares to other paid services.
    Also something that sets TH-cam music apart from it's competitors that it inherited from Google Play Music days (and I made a lot of use of) is that you can upload your own library to it and use it as a free streaming platform if you curate your own library. Easier than trying to setup your own cloud service but not without downsides (tracks get re-encoded, not all metadata kept, etc.)

    You forgot to mention that you can upload your own content to TH-cam music, which is a really nice feature for me that have lots of cds and some artists is not on any digital platforms. Also the one thing I like about Spotify is they have folders for much easier organizing big music collections, really miss that on TH-cam music as well as a fast desktop app as Spotify has for fast Scroll through large playlists. Try scrolling to the end of a big 5000 songs playlist, Spotify 1 second, TH-cam music like 1 day 😅

    Interestingly, the YTM free tier is what made me start using it. The ability to play whatever I wanted and skip as many times as I wanted was a huge draw. I mostly listened in my car or at my desk anyway, so I was either driving or using my computer. So having to keep the app open wasn't a big deal to me.
    YTM definitely is not perfect. The metadata issues need a lot of resolving. Even officially uploaded tracks and albums sometimes have some incorrect names or track orders. I've even seen bands' albums divided between 2-3 separate artist listings, or even incorrect albums from a band with the same name all lumped together.
    But overall, YTM definitely fits me the best. I love how good the recommendations usually are. And the way it decides what songs to play next when I just throw on a song is really good usually.

  • @Saibanaito

    Honestly the feature that sold YT music for me, is the feature you didn't include. Personal cloud storage.
    Imagine you have some old songs which youtube doesn't have a license to anymore, but you have bought them on cd or itunes, while the rest of your music library is on YT music. It works similarly to Spotify's local library except you can take it with you, anywhere, and don't need a pc for it to work. There's a limit to 100 songs but i find it fine as for me, it's mostly for the music which doesn't get sourced to my country and it's stuff i have gotten imported instead.
    I have 2 chinese songs from a chinese "anime" (it's 3d but fits in style with anime) and the copyright holder is so aggressive that not even random uploaders can let it be available as videos. So i bought them through a proxy and got them sent to me. Now i have them available on YT music forever, without having to worry about them getting removed due to the license having expired.

      i wish YTM was like apple music when it comes to this (because its pretty much just itunes). I dont like the seperation that YTM does for uploaded music. The only way i can shuffle all my music (stuff in library and uploads) is to make sure its all downloaded since it creates an automatic playlist for downloaded music. imo the most thing i miss when i switched from spotify to youtube music was the multi device support with some universal control shenanigan. i loved playing the music from my tv speaker and control it via my phone. also youtube sometimes cant stream both video and music at the same time, so whenever someone uses my account on the tv down stairs, my music on my room would just stop and asked me if i want to prioritized playing it from my tv or whatever gadget i use to play music, which is very infuriating considering both playing different types of media

  • @DDRPriest

    A big pro that was glossed over here is the ability to upload your own library of music to the platform. This was vaguely touched on in the cons section without any mention of how nice it is to just add the music you want to hear if you already have it downloaded or ripped. Apple own The Beatles library so my only chance to listen to it on YT Music is by uploading my own or trying to find it through TH-cam proper which can be a headache with certain artists.

    • @antftwx
      @antftwx ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Apple that owns The Beatles catalog is not the same Apple that makes iPhones. Their songs are most definitely available on YT Music.

    • @DDRPriest
      @DDRPriest ปีที่แล้ว

      @@antftwx After checking the history it seems Apple Corp technically doesn't own it either, McCartney and Sony own the rights. I had thought Apple Inc. had made some deal with them a while back, but that was just to bring their music to the iTunes platform in 2010. I was definitely wrong on that aspect.
      The example is still valid given the context. There is a plethora of music options that someone might not have access to for one reason or another on a chosen platform. Having the option to upload tracks is huge for that.

    I don't mind youtube music as it comes with youtube premium. My two biggest problems is that sometimes it likes to pull censored versions of songs despite the fact I have the setting to allow uncensored songs on and It's Viewer discretion is advised pop up on certain artist. You can't stop that pop up from coming up as far as I have seen and it pauses the music. So far I've only found one artist with that on there and it's rage against the machine.

  • @Zombertino

    TH-cam Music interface is crap indeed (could be easily solved with a redesign and update, though), but I have it because it came bundled with TH-cam Premium (can't stand ads) 🤷🏻 It also lets me download the videos I use for sleep, so I'm not constantly hogging the wifi for 8+ hours.

  • @Sucharek96
    @Sucharek96 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I agree that TH-cam music's interface is trash, but after some time you'll get used to it. As a person who doesn't use Apple music on a daily basis, i think that its interface is somehow even worse...
    So a lot comes down to what layout you're used to.
    In my opinion: song avaliability >>> better layout/making sure artist gets compensated (if a particular song is not avaliable on any other platform, the artist won't get my money anyway, so what's the difference to him xd)
    But at the end of the day, everyone has to decide for themselves

    I am one of those people who's just too lazy to compile a playlist by myself. I just want to pick a song and let the algorithm take me to God knows where 😂 Because of this, I find that TH-cam Music's recommendations algorithm is so much suited for my needs. I'm very picky with my songs, so, more often than not, I don't like to explore new songs, especially if it's too different with what I usually listen to. YT Music's algorithm reads my pattern whenever I play a certain song (kinda creepy if we're talking about data privacy, but hey it works for me). For instance, if I play a J Pop song, they usually play similar songs that I have played before when I am in that J-Pop mood and associate other songs that I play along with that song (e.g. 1st song is YOASOBI this, 2nd YOASOBI that, 3rd is Yama this, then whenever I play one of those songs, the other two songs will be added in the queue automatically + new songs that are similar to those, but can be hit or miss). And if it's other genres or another "set of songs that I usually play together", then the algorithm will adjust to that mood that I'm currently on when I just picked a song and not a whole playlist.
    If we're talking about data, yes it is kind of scary, and if we're talking about discovering new songs, yes maybe Spotify is better, but because I like to stay in my comfort zone most of the time when I'm listening to music, this works! And that initial comfort can persuade me into listening new similar music, sometimes even without me noticing.

    One thing I will say about youtube music is that it's algorithm is LEAGUES ahead of spotify. Whenever my preselected tacks end, spotify almost always plays something I don't like. It would always play something in the same genre, but never an artist I actually enjoyed listening to. TH-cam music, on the other hand, almost always knows exactly what's up my alley. It has only missed once by showing me NF after a Post Malone album.

    Ive been using YT Music for about 2 years but then stop. The reason being the app freezing up and not loading my downloads. It might of been of my old phone because it was a samsung galaxy A5 2017. But i got a new phone so im going back to using yt music. If you do have a youtube membership its still a good deal. The only thing that i'll complain about is your playlists from YT show up there. I wish there was an option to only have your playlists that are on YT music.

    I personally wouldn't use either of them and it's entirely a "to each their own" scenario
    I've got more than enough local storage for my CD rips (from CD's I totally own and didn't overpay for)
    plus the side loaded sony walkman app makes browsing and navigating quite nice especially since my phone didn't come with a music player app..... thanks google.

    TH-cam music biggest problem is a just don't market it well when you include TH-cam premium with TH-cam music no ads it's completely better than Spotify or any other music service.
    All the issues ken is bringing up are with the app are because the app is still learning i dont have any these problems

    I don’t really understand the love for Spotify. It is a decent app with decent music selection and UI. For me personally, it is not great. I have used the premium version of Spotify and TH-cam Music, and I found them both to not be as good as Apple Music. With Apple Music, I always find some thing I want to listen to right away. I even still have iHeartRadio and Pandora. As well as a bunch of other apps that I have tried over the years. I end up going to Spotify for Podcasts, but not for music. I use TH-cam music for searching and playing songs that way, I do not mess up my spot on algorithm that I have developed in Apple Music. Apple Music is my go to app for the gym because I am not sitting there skipping songs the whole time. As much as I go to the gym, I end up going more to listen to music while I’m working out, than looking at it the other way around. So the music Hass to be good enough not to change. I just can’t seem to do that on Spotify even with the personal DJ. TH-cam. TH-cam music seems to be even worse at it. But I don’t really pay for TH-cam music. It is just included with my TH-cam premium subscription. If I ever had to pay for it separately, I would just not. Unless the algorithm was a lot better at finding music that I want to listen to. Especially new music.

    I definitely disagree with your complaints about TH-cam Music. I definitely like Spotify and I had Spotify for years. But a while back I switched to TH-cam Music and I think it's better. Spotify has become so convoluted especially when they incorporated a TikTok feed. You mentioned how bad you think the home screen is on TH-cam Music but completely left out that Spotify is home screen is much worse. I used to really love Spotify but it's just become way too convoluted. Especially the home screen.

    I get Apple Music with my phone plan, which is cool but I still pay for YT Music just because of the integration with TH-cam itself and to add literally anything to your playlists - Not my favourite UI experience though

    The free version of TH-cam music is better than the free version of Spotify music first of all TH-cam music has higher bitrate on the free version and you do not have shuffle like on Spotify that's a deal-breaker for me you could choose which song you want to play on TH-cam music going to have to choose TH-cam music yes the interface is different but it's fine

    I think you were to hard on TH-cam Music. I really like the interface and because I use Arc Browser on my Mac it's okay for me without a desktop app, but I totally understand that it's unnecessary clutter in the browser. But for me, who doesnt listen a lot of playlist and just randomly pick a song from the start page YT Music is great

    Since I have 2 devices at home, TH-cam music really isn’t a bother with having the screen on since I’m doing something else on the other phone anyways. But I understand with the screen off Spotify is better in this instance, but the free version only allows shuffle play on songs you actually want to hear, maybe for some it’s not a big deal, but for me It kinda is a dealbreaker. So TH-cam Music sorta fixes it. But Spotify is better with premium. But at home TH-cam music just makes more sense, if you have multiple phones that is.

    I used YT premium for students for two months, its not bad. But the UI is pretty meh I enjoy the fact that I can search up music that are covered by tons of people easily. But I hate the fact that some like music overrides? Or just in general get piled up with my like songs playlist. If YT improves this somehow and clean up their UI they will get me to switch to YT easily.

    Spotify I swear is the G.O.A.T of music apps. While YT Music u can't stream music on the back ground, unless u have YT Music premium. So my recommendation is gonna be Spotify, BUUUUT the choice is yours ☺️

    I gotta say that I think you were way too hard on YTMusic well maybe too hard on a specific thing that you care about which is something I never even think about. I would mention how hard it can be to find new albums on date of release and the lack of fun list that Spotify allows plugins to access and create.

    Now that I'm using YT Premium, the single thing that is preventing me from switching from Spotify is Shazam. Every song that I find there can easily be tracked on Shazam. Google already has a very good feature like this but I don't want to ask Google to find the song, I just want it to do it.
