What I want to see from one of these services is group listening with strangers. Spotify had an addon a long time ago where you could create these lobbies for music genres and everyone would vote on songs they want to play and talk about music with each other. It was such a cool feature. I really love music and it was fun to meet other people in these chat rooms to discuss music and what's playing in the room. Have been using Spotify for about 10 years now i think. For me it was the most convenient way to listen to my podcasts and even had most of the smaller artists that other platforms, at least at the time, didn't have. All that being said, I am not loyal to the brand in any way. If something better comes out I'd most likely switch to it, after surviving the dreadful realization of losing 12 extremely poorly arranged playlists that each have around 2-3k+ songs in them. The main issue I have with Spotify, and I assume this is not only Spotifys issue, is the monetary compensations the artists get. All in all; I'll sit on the fence with my legs dangling to whichever way they do at the moment.

I operate with Apple Music and TH-cam Music because it comes with YT Premium anyway and between these two I am covered pretty well. Another thing about Apple Music that fell under the rug in your presentation was the classical music app that really cracked the code in managing classic music as it just doesn't follow the artist-album-track scheme having sometimes multiple orchestras having recorded the same oeuvre of a composer. Certainly a niche for contemporary listeners but nevertheless quite the geat.

One thing to mention about the sync library feature which is why I choose AM over Spotify, the song DOES NOT need to be in the streaming database to be synced.
For example, some bands release their concert audio on their own website (such as metallica). These songs are unavailable to stream, but with AM snyc library, it uploads those songs to your cloud so you can stream it whenever you want.

@@ColinCreighton I haven't tried them through a DAC, but I have used Deezer before. My main issue with it was navigation and the library size was a pain. This was a while ago though, so maybe it's better now.
On a pure numbers game Tidal's MQA audio should be the best, but people have complained about the app crashing and generally not being a good experience which turns me off using it because the subscription for the highest quality music is more expensive than the other platforms.
Qobuz is roughly the same quality as Apple's high fidelity, and the only real reason I went with Apple is because Xbox Game Pass had 3 months of it free as one of the perks, so I figured I would try it out.

I do miss Spotify sometimes but until they deliver a feature they promised for late 2021 they're not getting another dollar from me. AI and playlisting is all great but missing such a crucial part of the experience (the fidelity) makes it a dealbreaker for me personally. As someone who switched from Spotify to Apple Music (partially due to Apple One being kind of a good deal), I gotta say I really enjoy the Library management, having library sync as someone who used to digitally acquire a lot of music but mostly stopped because having my library split was annoying, the UI and search functions, and of course lossless audio as a small audiophile myself. I think you really hit the nail on the head.
For my personal use, the only thing I kind of miss with Spotify is definitely the discovery. I’ve had to find new avenues to discover new music which has mostly been through TH-cam. I don’t really care about using it on a ton of different devices because I don’t play games on consoles and my car supports CarPlay. While the lack of group sessions hurts, it doesn’t come up often enough for me to care enough to switch back.

I tested the one month trial Apple Music offered, coming from a 3 year Spotify Premium Subscription and the only thing I noticed was the better sound quality from Apple Music. Spotify seems to be able to somewhat rectify this by having a better quality when you download music but it's a slight hassle. If Spotify comes up with a HiFi option then the only thing keeping it back would be some missing songs that are available on other platforms.

Man as a spotify user for 9 years straight, and a huge music NERD, it is my favorite service available. It's the last luxury I would get rid of if I was dead broke. It knows me too well, and has only gotten better with age! I even got 3 months of apple music free and have been trying it, but haven't ended up returning. I love spotify wrapped at the end of the year, it motivates me to listen to even more music to try and pump up those numbers. Also really shows my listening changes every year with my life as a whole. I've discovered so many artists, genres, albums thanks to spotify and continue to do so every day. Also the device control is absolutely ideal; I have like 7 sound systems and I can switch to whichever one I want at any time, and then control the playback from any device nearby. Only complaint is that they randomly update the app/ pc app sometimes and change things that never needed to be changed and really make things worse.

Great video, but there was an important point left out; Royalties!
As a musician, that’s the main deciding factor of what platform I choose to stream on. Apple Music pays 3 times more per stream compared to Spotify, and Tidal pays out almost twice as much as Apple Music. The reach and discovery on Spotify is leagues better though for sure.
Currently though, Napster pays out the most, which is funny because it was one of the major factors in how we consume music nowadays.
Regardless of what platform you choose, support your artist friends too!

Happens to me ALL the time and every time I try to do a search or browse an artist page I find it in ~30 seconds or less. Every time I have tried to find a specific song like that on my friends Spotify account, I have either struggled or failed. Apple Music is just so much cleaner and concise with its search, especially with the way it displays artist pages. However, I will say that feature where Spotify lets people all play music together is absolutely amazing and I wish I had that. But I would not trade easy searching over just passing my phone around.

Spotify’s going through some tough times right now. They’re going through their “teenager” faze as I’d like to call it. Making some unsettling changes out of the blue.
Now, I’ve always been back and forth between AM and Spotify, but I recently chose Spotify because I listen to more songs that have bass in it; and with the customizable EQ Spotify has, I have a preset that makes the bass better tenfold.
Spotify also is really good on making their interface clean. I like how it has the “Home” page which makes it so that all of your discovered and other things are easily accessible. The “Search” is great too. I like how they added the TikTok view in the three little rectangles; it shows good and fair change but doesn’t shove it in your face like they did before. The “Library” tab is also nice. I like that there are options for list and grid view, and how you can pin playlists. I am a person who likes to “Like” all of the songs and pin the playlist at the top, so that is a really nice feature.
Getting rid of the “Like” button was a wrong move. I get the idea of how you can add it too more playlists as well, but that’s extremely time consuming and a pain in the butt if you ask me. What they can do instead is either make it an option, where you can have a choice and bury it in the setting somewhere where you can change it to the heart button or the plus button.
Or instead when adding a song to you liked playlist instead of it saying “Added to liked songs” it will ask you if you want it added to any playlist. It will still fill the heart green.
It is possible that a solution mentioned previously is not what they were going for. So another proposed idea is to add a designated button on the screen that lets you add it too a playlist.
AM also has some really great features. The lyrics option will always be a favorite, not only to myself but many others. AM had always been really good at capturing every instrument in a song and also really good at relaying the location at which the microphone recorded the instrument playing as well. Of course, it’s Apple after all, so the integration with the software is going to be top notch. Personally, I’m not a fan of how the Im library layout is on AM. I like the fact you can have the albums you add to it on the main page, on the other hand it also seems really lazy. In the near future I see Apple making a all in one music/podcast/classic app. They have all of the apps that go along with each other. If they were to integrate the music app, with podcasts. It would be a great redesign that they are looking for. It could be split into four pages “Home”: where it will have all of your newer things, recently played, or playlists to branch off and find newer songs. “Podcasts”: where it’ll be podcast central. It would have exclusive stars (possibly) and all of your podcast related things would be there. “Classical”: which would feature everything the classical music app has to offer. “Search”: I couldn’t see Apple taking the same route Spotify did and integrating the TikTok style into their app. But the search page would be a master search. Where it searches for anything (every song it has on its app, and podcasts).
I have recently just bought AM again and will be determining where to go until things change. I hope to see Spotify get back with how things were or change what they’re doing now. These were just some ideas I had floating around, I’m open to conversation.
    Thanks.

Have yet to get my feet wet with Apple Music. Honestly still leaning more towards using iTunes to buy tracks and keep offline copies…though without an iPod equivalent, that’s hard to keep up. Spotify is definitely the easier experience for me, and using it for almost a decade now definitely underscores the importance of its advantages highlighted in this video. Still, good to know that Apple Music has a Cloud Sync feature-never knew about it at all, but a cap of 1000 songs still feels quite limiting. Still, if this finally allows me to use some of my iTunes library on my Android phone, then it’s worth a shot.

It’s also pretty noteworthy that Apple Music has “similar” features to the pros of Spotify. Instead of the AI DJ they have the “Stations” feature which recommends songs it thinks you’ll like based on what you listen to, or you can listen to an artist station that Will recommend songs similar to specific artists.
They also have the “SharePlay” feature which is similar to the Spotify group listening, however i think it requires a FaceTime call.

User friendly UI, better audio quality, lyrics for a lot of songs with the sing feature, and more verbose organization win me over. Spotify while can be free, has obnoxious ads that only advertise itself if you don't have premium, the audio quality is noticeably worse by a huge margin even if you pay for it, and while it offers a variety of cool features, with how the UI is, there are some that are difficult to find.

Only thing i wish is that spotify offered dolby instead of just stereo. Over all, Apple music is great its just the lack of adjustable EQ settings. Yes i do know you can change EQ in settings for Apple mujsic, but that is only presets and still doesnt produce enough bass as well as keeping the mids and high ends crisp.
