    #1 iron - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking iron supplement
    #2 calcium - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking calcium supplement
    #3 biotin - vitamin to help grow hair, doesn’t impact thyroid function. Impacts thyroid test, appears like you’re taking too much. Avoid biotin for 2-3 days prior to blood test
    #4 iodine - wrong dose can harm thyroid. Too high iodine and too low selenium can cause thyroid inflammation
    #5 thyroid glandulars - harmful if contains thyroid hormones. Unverified amounts of thyroid hormone impact lab results. Look for reputable manufacturers

    I was taking a high iodine dose for a few years. I think it was about 125 mg. in a liquid form. I didn't take it everyday but maybe 3-5x per week. In 2020 I had inflammation of my thyroid, so much that I felt like I was choking. I had an ultrasound and they found many nodules, one was quite large, 2cm across. I am much better today (2022) but my last ultrasound still showed all the nodules, which I was surprised because I no longer feel like I'm choking, though I can feel something in my throat when I swallow at times. When I am stressed or overemotional (very sad or angry),The choking feeling returns for a while. I am taking Armour Thyroid and my labwork is coming back good (I am hypothyroid). Going gluten free has helped tremendously. I no longer have the chronic neck pain I have had since I was a child! Meditation is a must. I fight doing it but after I stretch and spend time with God in meditation and prayer I feel so good, so happy, so calm, so hopeful about life. Thank you Dr., your videos have helped me so much! God Bless you.

  • @heidih3048

    I started taking high doses of iodine regularly to improve my energy levels when I began working as a nurse and was not getting enough sleep. The stress and chronic insomnia were causing a feeling of fatigue and difficulty focusing.
    I had read that high doses of iodine are common in the diet in Japan, and that supplementing would increase alertness and as a bonus, might reduce breast cancer risk.
    After a couple of months of supplementing at least 2-3 times per week, my thyroid gland started to swell, and I developed a sore throat and other flu-like symptoms, in addition to hyperthyroid-like symptoms, such as excessive sweating, increased anxiety, increased insomnia, and increased heart rate (didn't check my BP at the time).
    I researched my symptoms and found that it appeared that I had thyroiditis later found thru lab testing to not be Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but merely an inflammation of the thyroid that was not non-autoimmune in origin (Hashimoto's is autoimmune), likely either brought on by the excessive iodine supplementation, or a rare viral infectionof the thyroid, or both.
    I went on a low iodine diet for a few weeks, as well as regular aspirin supplementation for anti-inflammation during the worst part of the thyroiditis (several days, in which I had thyriod pain and difficulty swallowing).
    After the acute thyroiditis resolved, my thyroid function was low-normal for a while, then after about 8 months, when i next had thyroid labs checked, i had subclinical hypothyroidism for the 1st time in my life.
    So right now I still have subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH between 6 and 7, but T4 still normal). There is a chance that the thyroid function will improve up to a year and a half after the acute thyroiditis, so I am waiting to see if it improves before going on levothyroxine.
    Anyway, that is my story-- perhaps it will help someone?

    I was taking liquid nascent iodine. 650 mcg a day for months. Sometimes twice a day. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease shortly after. TSH was >150 and thyroid hormone was practically non existent. My doctor said I was on the verge of going into a coma. Haven't taken any since. Changed my diet, taking zinc, selenium, vit d, and many other supplements in addition to my Levothyroxine 112 mcg (probably not the best medication but that is all she will give me) I'm feeling much better. Usually just happens if I eat poorly get too stressed or don't get enough sleep. I also take ashwagandha for stress and rhodiola for energy. They help a great deal. First month off meds and new life style, my TSH was 16, two months into my diet TSH was 9 and 4 months later TSH was 3.5. My Doc said see you in a year! January 2022 I thought, ummmm I feel great don’t need to take the Iodine pill so I stopped. In March my TSH was 16 😮!! I started taking 50mg of Iodine. In June TSH was 9 and in October it was 3.45!! I kept taking 50mg instead of going back to 12.5 mg. Last month my hair was falling drastically, brain fog, tiredness! I went to see my Doc, TSH was at 19! He wants to put me on meds but I explained it was TOO MUCH IODINE that caused it. I stopped Iodine all together to see if my high TSH will drop. I hope so! Doc is giving Biotin and B12 injections, my hair is falling allot less. I’m hopeful I will cure my thyroid with Whole Foods and low iodine dosage. Pleaseeeee listen to Doctor Childs! Hey dr. Childs, I have 2 questions for you on Iodine, since you said that high doses of Iodine can inhibit thyroid's function or even cause autoimmunity.
    1) What is your stance on say Japanese consuming ridiculously high amounts of iodine but having probably the best thyroid function in the world, least autoimmune thyroid problems ?
    2) What is your stance on theory that some practitioners practically implement, saying that it's not the iodine that causes the problems, it's the damage from halogens that are inside the body from tap water, chemicals and other toxins, mainly excess fluorine, bromine and chlorine.They displace iodine in our bodies and intoxicate us. And when you take iodine in higher amounts your body is thus detoxing, which initially puts your body to detox phase which may last quite for some time and if your detox pathways aren't working you suffer a lot. But if you take care and detox well, you actually restore optimal function of the body and the thyroid.
    Will be waiting for your answers. Cheers!

      I follow Dr. David Brownstein's iodine protocol. I take between 25-50mg. My mom takes 50mg, as well. She did have Hypothyroidism. I have Hashimoto's that has been healing for the past 4 years. My Hashimoto's was caused by the Mirena IUD. My TSH went as high as 30 with supplementing with iodine. My TSH is currently around 11, as I still have elevated TPO; sitting at 60, but was at 400 in 2017. My mother's TSH only went up to 7 with iodine, and now she is off levothyroxine. Iodine has helped her diabetes, helped her NAFLD, and her eyebrows are growing back (she literally had no eyebrows). I stopping taking Levothyroxine in March 2021 as I was having side effects (excess daytime sweating, night sweats, acne). My vitiligo has been healing on its own, since I stopped Levo. Iodine has fixed my irregular cycles, raised my body temperature, corner of my eyebrows have grown back, no more sore breast, no more bloating, etc. Dr. David Brownstein, Dr. Jorge Flechas (retired), and Dr. Guy Abraham (deceased) are three of the most iodine literate doctors out there.

I have low Thyroid and went to my Naturopath and she took me off of it and tried to do it with detoxadine plus selenium and zinc and it just didn’t work for me.. I eat a plant based diet but I have added in pastured raised and fed organic eggs as well as some wild salmon and sardines. Hopefully it won’t cause me to have high cholesterol now because I never have in the past.

    I was scared off using iodine supplements because I have Hashimotos. I did an iodine test and was deficient. It’s just as bad for the thyroid to be deficient in iodine, so please test iodine if you have thyroid issues. Don’t assume anything.

    Ketovore is how I try to eat. Biotin is in my daily Collagen and labs have revealed too high of T4 so my meds were reduced. Now I have fatigue, hair loss, and weight gain with mass brain fog. I will be letting my doctor know about the Biotin and labs. I’m desperate to feel normal. 🥺 Some energy, something to look forward to and joy would be nice to experience again. Hello Doctor! I really have tried to loose weight. I have hypothyroidism and I am in the okay range according to my pcp but I don’t not feel normal. I am very tired and sleepy all of the time, I have dry skin, I’m constipated all the time, and I can not loose any weight despite lots of exercise and healthy eating. I am looking into your hypothyroid pack and weight loss supplements for hypothyroid. Where do you suggest I start? I can’t afford doing buying both packs. I am eager to buy the weight loss pack but I feel like my hypothyroid symptoms are really getting to me after all of these years on 75 mg of levothyroxine I do not feel normal. What do you suggest I start off with?

    • @letsrecite7418
      @letsrecite7418 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Firstly, have you tried going gluten-free, dairy free and sugar free for 3 months to be more gentle on your thyroid. If you haven't done that, do that first, if your weight is inflammation depending on how long you have had it, you will reduce a large amount of it in a approx. month. Brain fog disappears. I don't know if it is necessary to go sugar free, I just did that to give my reduction in inflammation the best chance, it has been a good experience. Make sure you take your levothyroxine (or other thyroid meds if you are taking them) at the same time each day, all this is a game changer. I am sure Dr. Child's supplements will benefit you properly once you have done this first step.

      @pamelajohnson1852 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not have all the proper tests. You need a free T3 and a free T4 to go along with these. Your reverse T3 is high, which is a huge problem, denoting you are not converting T4 into T3 well. It's hard to tell where your T4 and your T3 are because you do not have the ranges listed, but from what I see here, your T4 is much higher than your T3. Your TPO antibodies are high, which means you have Hashimoto's. If you are on thyroid hormone medication, that could be the reason for your low TSH, and does not mean you are hyper. When we take thyroid hormone it stops "calling" for more, so the TSH goes down.

      That's 6 or 12 mg/day. the Iodine doctors feel that is fine, if you don't have thyroid nodules or other problems, etc. How do you feel? If you feel good, and you are taking the supportive nutrients, you should be fine. You will always find people that will tell you that much is toxic, but there is no science to back it up. Most problems come because of lack of selenium and other vital nutrients.

    Thanks for all your videos! These are so helpful and informative. I have hypothyroidism. I had already been taking a few supplements for many years...mainly D3, krill oil, turmeric, and ashwaganda. But I decided to add a supplement that my chiropractor suggested, called Thyroid Complex by Medi Herb. It does have 300 mcg's of iodine, but no selenium. At my next doctor visit a week later, I was told flat out not to take it because of the iodine. She said too much iodine can cause...goiter...? So I stopped taking it and returned it to my chiropractor. But according to you, 300 mcg's of iodine would not be overdosing. I have also been supplementing my diet with 2 or 3 Brazil nuts per day, because I have read that 2 or 3 Brazil nuts per day will provide the daily amount of selenium that your body needs....is this true?

    Would vitamin k2 be an issue for thyroid ( the Vitamin k2 is taken with Vitamin D3)?

      I haven't had a problem with k2. K2 just tells the calcium to stay in the bones and out of the arteries and soft tissue. Also, you should be take magnesium with D3 has well.

    I just started taking Blue Bonnet thyroid booster. It contains iodine, selenium, plus the thyroid glandular along with several other ingredients. I’ve also been checking my basal temperature every morning and was surprised to see how low it is. 95.5 - 97 degrees. It’s only been a week so I’ll give it some more time. Thanks for your input.

    Can quercetin cause thyroid damage and if so why does it cause detoxification of excess estrogen which is a leading cause of hypothyroidism? Please let me know as I’m considering taking quercetin and also I have hypothyroidism and I struggle with estrogen dominance symptoms. Thanks.

      Quercetin shouldn't cause any thyroid damage or issues to thyroid function. I have a more recent video on quercetin that you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/asQKHcvJY4I/w-d-xo.html

    I always wondered if because I left Salt out of diet it triggered the Hashi? I eat foods with natural iodine levels. I used to take Biotin for hair loss, but want to try Viviscal instead. I'll be going for my labs beginning of May. Be interesting to see results

    On the video it is mentioned that calcium supplements affect the t4 medication. What about calcium containing food? I don't supplement on calcium but I sure drink a lot of milk. Should I also avoid milk for 4 hours?
