I didn’t feel like it was rushed. Imo. I thought it was done perfectly. Megatron was the “company guy”, follow the rules. Loved the boss. But then in a short amount of time he seen how his boss was using him and his friends, selling out his race to their sworn enemies, and took out their cogs at birth so they can live miserable lives as slaves to give himself a better life. He found all that out in 5 minutes. So it makes sense for him who was an intense supporter or fan to do a complete 180 and want to kill and expose Sentinel. It felt like a more realistic response than Optimus who was always the rule bender but then finds out sentinel was evil and just kind of being like “we’ll expose him and live happily ever after”
thank goodness. someone who actually gave us a real review instead of "best movie ever" stuff. I'll still see it because I need to analyze things for myself.
I think D16 to Megs turn is natural if we want a foil for D is not in Orion, it is in Elita-One. Both follow the protocol to a T yet the latter ads Orion's optimism on her outlook, slowly developing a kinship to Pax's. D-16 on the other hand is always led by Orion, he just wanna work and yearns yet doesn't work for it, is Orion who always push him forward, is curious that D admires the Heavy Hitter of the Primes while Orion's is not idolizing them as much. So when D turns into Megatron he see the opportunity to be on top, he is harbouring resentment while Pax use that to fuel them to seek a better future. Megatron is slapped to the face when the planet inself, Primus and the freaking Primes including Megatronus Prime chose Orion to turn into the new leader and bringer of Life, Optimus Prime. Megatron now have the Elite Guard thirst of past glory that will follow him to justify their existence and conflict. Megatron will gaslight everyone to justify his new low vices. I love that this saga will see the 2 coins of post revolution: Reform and change vs Destruction and the same system with different opresors.
I felt like once Megatron saw the truth and gets his T-Cog, his turn to the bad guy felt pretty abrupt since during the first half he’s always like chilled guy but now he’s rash, delusional, and really angry all of the sudden. Should have like few more scenes of him becoming evil.
'and really angry all of the sudden' He just learned that he was mutilated before he came online, just like millions of other transformers, who were forced into the mines, and lived like secondary citizens. (and there are things which the movie implies, like when D-16 told that they deserved being hit because they talked back to a supervisor, or how some workers weren't even allowed to leave the production areas they worked in) He learned that all the humiliation, hardship, and abuse he went trough was for nothing. I would be angry as well.
I agree with everything you said man, shocked no one else felt the megatron evilness was rushed and a bit all over the place motivation wise. Still good and yeah they didn't want to make a 2 hour movie but they def could have cut a few scenes prob from the first 2 acts.
Feels like a lot of TF fans are just kinda taking him becoming evil at face value because it's something we already know is gonna happen, which is basically my main critique of the movie. Even the second time, I felt like it would've been trivial to at least give him one angry outburst in the beginning, or save Orion a few times so that "I'm done saving you" made more sense
I still think him behaving the way he did makes sense. Sentinel mutilated millions of bots even before they came online. HE mutilated D-16. And then he forced them into working in the mines, living their lives as secondary citizens. (and there are things which the movie implies, like when D-16 told that they deserved being hit because they talked back to a supervisor, or how some workers weren't even allowed to leave the production areas they worked in) Sentinel exploited them, opressed them, and then turned around and basked in their admiration, and praise, behaving like their benefactor. I pretty much understand the anger D-16 felt, and why he changed so drastically.
@@pepita2437 Yes, being mad at Sentinel made perfect sense. But why drop Orion? What did he do besides get in the way a bit, and when did he save him before to warrant "I'm done saving you"?
@@sparkside217 Orion betrayed D-16. He protected the person who ruined D-16's life, Orion protected a person who took everything form D-16. They were friends, almost like brothers, shouldn't have Orion stood by his side? Yes, I know Orion was right, and he did not betray D-16. But from D-16's perspective... I undertsand why he believed he was betrayed. Also yeah, D-16 did saved Orion multiple times. The movie starts by Orion being chased by police, D-16 saved him by distracting them, and smuggled Orion on the train (and it was made clear that this was not the only time this happened). Or D-16 took the punch Orian would have gotten after Elita was fired. Or he saved Orion's life not long after they got their T-cogs, and there was a vehicon trying to shoot at Orion (the first time we saw D-16's vehicle mode) Or D-16 pretty much saved all of them when he kickd Starscream's ass (they would have been tortured, and killed btw)
@@pepita2437 Good point, I guess those are some good examples of him saving Orion. I think maybe though those acts were overshadowed by the race sequence, where he doesn't save him, and it's more about Orion putting them in danger And when he saves them from Starscream, I feel that could have been a little cleaner in terms of pointing that out. Feels like D was already just thinking about himself at that point rather than any concern for Orion
Megatron(from this movie) was a person who followed the rules, stayed out of trouble and lived his life that way. When Optimus kept dragging him into unnecessary situations it was already making him upset but in the end, he had the mindset that it would get them recognized by sentinel. So when the sentinel betrayal happens Megatron is broken and blames Optimus because he feels like if they just fell in line, that would’ve never been revealed to him and he wouldn’t have a rage of wanting to kill Sentinel. Never the less his mind is no longer in following the rules but on killing Sentinel. The “I’m not going to save you anymore” comes from the places of, every bad situation you’ve been in, you got yourself into it, running from the security guards at the beginning, getting Megatron punched. Was all Optimus Primes fault. So when he shot Optimus on accident he tried to save him at first. But he became conflicted because Optimus always gets him in trouble, always disrupts his way of life (at this point it’s become revenge) and is a burden. Optimus sees him contemplating that’s why he says “No” then Megatron fully embraces the fact that Optimus is dead weight to him and he’s going to kill Sentinel no matter what. Megatron was written perfectly in this movie I feel like. You can see his eyes continue to get darker the more his mental state becomes “corrupted”(I don’t even think corrupted but from revenge, to destructive) you never see in this movie him flat out say he has an evil plan to rule the world. But his actions started becoming that of a dictator
Tell me how many times and even off screen have d-16 save orion so many times and doesnt listen to him so why does d-16 have to listen him when sentinel torched d-16 and 2 even said dont be like sentinel comparing him to sentinel that was crazy in my opinion if you think abt it but then again igz idk understand you saying it was quick. Also d16 would know that orion would still try get in his way not to kill sentinel prime so idk.
Things I did not liked in this movie: I don't like the magically getting powers aspect. Megatron was such a formidable warrior in other continuties, because of his focus, skill, determination, hard work, and lust for violence. In this version I feel like it cheapens Megatron character that his power, and skill does not come from centuries of struggle, and self improvement. In other continuities Megatron uses violence as a precision tool. In this film, he doesn't know what he's doing, and he gets flabbergated by his own agression/violence. A Megatron who got his transformation powers five hours ago beating Starscream (the leader of the High Guard) is just absurd. This elevates the T-cogs to some mystical macguffin instead of a simple organ which just allows bots to transform. I also don't like that most of the Autobot cast can be seen in the mines. I foud it cool that originally there were autobts from all classes. There were scientists like Perceptor, or Wheeljack, or nobles Mirage, doctors like Rachet, First Aid, police like Prowl, even Cultural invstigators like Jazz. I wish they spent a bit more time fleshing out the class system which the wrietrs kind of imported from the IDW/Aligned continuity. Alsoabout the 'refrences' they throw at you. There is a ton of them. And a lots of people won't even notice. There are little inconsequential easter eggs like Orion spending his time in the Archives, being a history nerd (which is a clever nod to TFP) and there are lore elements taken from previous TF media which pretty much influences the plot in significant ways. Like the caste system (which was taken form the IDW/Aligned continuity) D-16's low class miner bot origins (again taken form IDW, and Aligned continuty) Orion being a low class manual labourer (G1) Orion being sworn brother with Megatron, fighting against a false Prime, and his opressive corrupt government (Aligned continuity). Every single story arc, lore you see in this movie are taken form already existing lore. :)
Yeah I agree about it being an amalgamation of existing lore, but visually there were very few queues or characters from the franchise. I just personally prefer the Cyberverse approach that mixes characters, rather than starting over with G1 characters for the hundredth time And that kinda speaks to what you're saying about all of them being miners. Like not only is it all G1, they're all already together in the mines? Why not mix it up at least a little bit for future stories/spin-offs
