Fun fact about the number plate: It’s the original plate, but the plates that surround it are fords. P21HNC to P32HNC are all Fords, P33HNC is invalid, P35HNC is a Ford escort and P36HNC onwards are a few various Protons. Also NC means it’s registered in Manchester
Wheel arch rust is exactly why they put arch liners in cars, it's a shame they then started making them out of carpet like material. I bet Dad is pleased he hasn't had to work on it Jon.
There are a lot of good parts there. I'd love to know how many cars these parts go to and hopefully learn their stories. Even if you can't own all the protons in the UK; not that anything will stop you from trying. You can at least keep many Saga Iswaras on the road!
Usually rot like that on the bonnet is found on replacement panels as they dont get the factory treatment.. often see odd doors or wings rotten on otherwise tidy cars
That's a shame that it is so far gone. But hopefully it will help keep more Protons on the road. Can't even remember the last time I saw one in the UK.
Well you enthusiastically started off jolly & optimistic, until you finally realised what "only surface rust" means to those who can't weld. Christmas is coming though, so maybe your dad might get you a nice MIG. You could have hours & hours & hours of fun with this one. We are entertained as always though, and your passion must be admired.
Hi Jon a great video and can’t win them all sadly and a rare one too being a SL least parts will help others to live The NC number plate is originally from Manchester - NA NB NC etc so will be originally from that area so whatever proton dealer was over there but it would have been traded in at a Daewoo car shop or Halfords (who sold daewoo) to have those plates - they were one of the first car makes to not have franchisees so they all had that general plate and trade ins - we had one at merry hill centre and all new and used cars had those plates - great piece of history All the best to you all Daniel
@ yes I remember Daewoo when they launched in UK and you could order them in Halfords, on the phone and in car stores They pre judged history really back then They also did things like collecting cars for service, minimum standards delivering new cars was amazing really back then!
@@JonCoupland Oh I didnt know that. I thought you could just get retention certificate. Hmm in that case I would ebay the whole lot and just say "it needs an MOT" lol.
Car bodywork with Jon, lesson 1🤣. Surely got to be at least £100 worth of spare parts and trim, how much are a set of headlamps? We had lots of HNC reg buses in Greater Manchester.
Sorry but that really isn't much rust or hard to fix Wished the mx5 I'm doing only needed that much work , and it wouldn't be hard to actually fix right
@JonCoupland oh... ha.... really, well never mind, another nice car will turn up one day, go for cars from the 70's and 80's, I'd love to own a 70's car but don't have the space!!!!
Gotta be Honest Jon…even at 2x playback speed, this very long video is scraping the content barrel! But hey…I know…as well as changing the playback speed I could have swiped down and out. Even critical comments count as engagement though…right? 😐
You aren't my target audience for this one 😉 - the good people of Malaysia will enjoy it and they WILL watch the whole thing. As you say, engagement and algorithm. You must enjoy something else you wouldn't keep coming back 😜
I remember the green. Quite a pleasant colour. Looks like the bonnet might have had a bit of damage resulting in a respray following in some lacquer peel….
Thanks for watching this one. I had great fun filming it. If you are new here please consider subscribing to the channel for more Proton fun

I'm a welder and that honestly doesn't look that bad ( at the moment) if you can get the panels eg inner wheel ach.
Keep watching 😉
That taillight design is AMAZING!!!
I think so too!

It may have been a dual franchise dealer jon. Proton did it with lada too.
Yes I considered that. Normally they put both marques on the plates. Either way. A cool addition to my collection

Yes I agree but it did appear factory stamped so maybe a crash repair?
@JonCoupland yes probably a replacement one after a nudge

MOT expired back in 2009! Isn't the roadmap inside the vehicle newer than that?
I think it's had people come and go to it, take bits, leave stuff etc
Fingers crossed
@@JonCoupland Ah fair enough. Unless they were driving it for a while with no MOT 👀😂
Not sure where you seen that,it had mot right up to may 2022.dvla website.
To me, it's a challenging subject better for parts
