      please do a separate video on what is the contrasting difference between Lumion and Vray renders. and how we can compensate those imperfections for lumion. i think it is a topic that really needs to be addressed.

      @@ms.argentum3721 glad you like it! Yes, it does, but for D5 Render you probably can do it differently, since you have more channels. And with similar technique like @luminous labs said.

    Combining the wood and surface in photoshop does work but you can gain more control inside of Lumion by placing a plane over the hardwood floor and applying the scratches/dust to it. This lets you scale the surface imperfections while also giving the ability to make the imperfections invisible, or change the wood without needing to photoshop it again if the art direction changes during the project.

    • @NunoSilva3d
      @NunoSilva3d  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've tried that option, but there's an issue with the reflections after if you use that technique. It would be the best one, yes.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@NunoSilva3d That is a fair point, I think for surface imperfections with more shine to them like in your example perhaps combining the gloss maps is the better way visually.
      I also played around with the turning the transparency all the way up in the material properties. I am not sure why it doesn't make the material completely transparent but it seems to be able to keep some of the reflections.
      It is too bad Lumion doesn't have a clearcoat option or something along those lines to make this set up all in the engine.

    • @NunoSilva3d
      @NunoSilva3d  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LuminousLabs indeed. But the ideal one would be adding an extra slot so we can add those imperfections, or another texture to help break up the tiling for example. I would be really glad to see that in Lumion 12.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NunoSilva3d I agree, it feels like it is so close to having full functionality. Even a second normal map that has a separate map scale may be interesting since you would be able to get the same quality as the floor in your video but the ability to scale just the imperfections in Lumion.
      The displacement map could theoretically have another alpha channel in it. if another map is in there maybe there could be a way to add something for surface imperfection in there.
      Great video overall though, it's great to see people pushing what can be done in Lumion

    hello Nuno, first off all your tutorials made me turn from corona render to Lumion! I have a question does Lumion can handle working with uvw unwrapping maps? I'm working on cylinder wooden chair the top of it has the shape of this round chopped tree and the sides have normal wooden texture so I'm having trouble to apply this kind of materials. many thanks in advance

    why did you invert the green channel? is this a crucial step? If you'd want to have more structure of the ground texture (like gaps between each floorboard and stuff) you would just increase the visibility/contrast/curves-adjsutment of the original gloss Layer?

    • @NunoSilva3d
      @NunoSilva3d  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For textures from Poliigon it is, ot else you will have incorrect lighting shadows on the normal map. You can do that, but I don't recommend, since this textures already come with the correct values. But yes, you can always change them if you want a more pronounced look.

    when adding this textures... color map and normal map does it cause additional time of rendering? like in walk-through animations?

    • @NunoSilva3d

      Depends on the size of the texture. It will always have more impact on the scene, especially 4k textures.

    • @NunoSilva3d

      Depends on the render engine. In this case, if you don't do it, the shadows will project incorrectly.

    This tutorial really helps but the issue is when we use this method to add imperfection we use that normal map, therefore, we lose the main normal map to create surface bulges (in this case the parquet woods). Obviously, we can use displacement to make them not flat but if we want to make both maps (disp and normal), we cant. Please Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks in advance.
