Had the same issue. After days of frustration, I wondered if the screw advances down. I started twisting it and it does. Just unscrew it to the length you need. I'm guessing it was placed and then installed in the ceiling.
I have the same fan installed in the basement bathroom. The fan keeps getting stuck and squeals. I'm trying to take it apart to clean it. But I can't figure outhe last part on how to get the fan part out.?

When I hook up single switch, power to black and blue wires combined, it knocks out my breaker. Also, the fan is actually hooked to the white outlet, not the light. I am returning it, hoping a replacement is wired properly.

Thank you for your question regarding the 678 and 679 video. The 678 & 679 both use a housing size of 8" x 8-1/4" with a 4" round duct size. If there is no duct work for the currently installed unit, that would need to be run to the outside of the home. A wall or roof cap would be needed as well. Thank you for your question on models 678 and 679. The blue wire operates the light. The black wire operates the fan. If you have a single on/off switch, tie the black and blue wires together. This will turn the fan and light on at the same time. If you have a two-function switch, wire the blue wire to the switch wire you want to use for the light, and the black wire to the switch wire you want to use for the fan. All the whites get tied together, and your ground wires go together. Please contact our Technical Support team directly for more assistance at 800-637-1453.
Thank you for your question on the model 678/679 ventilation fan. There should be a gap about the width of a butter knife between the ceiling material and the housing. This is recommended and would be acceptable.

Tie all white wires together and green to ground wire/screw.
You can be 99% finished and the screw that holds the light on is an 1/8 of an inch too short, requiring a complete remount of the entire assembly to the studs. Infuriating product.

I have this exact unit the the screw/stud that you screw the nut screw on is too short by 1/2 in. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Since the bath fan has a lip, what do I do with the small gap between the drywall and the bath fan?
