It’s all possible, mining for a living does offer lots of freedom but the money isn’t as much as other type jobs so there must be lots of sacrifices made to accommodate.
Ah! So THIS is where some strange pebbles I found with bluish-white fractured rock impregnated with pyrite crystals caem from! I'm in the NJ Pine Barrens, where lots of beach-washed ancient inland dunes are located. You find mostly quartzite, but there are also small stones from clearly very distant locations mixed in, which likely migrated up the coast over eons. I found a couple that looked like they'd been crushed under immense pressure, and a different silica mineral had bonded the fragments back together and sowed small pyrite crystals into it. They look just like those samples you showed!
I live in Atlanta and have never been crystal digging but have been trying to for so long! I definitely gotta visit Graves Mountain it seems like a huge treasure trove!
I have a chunk of Kyanite myself and it's actually bluer than these bois. It's darker though and the crystals are in a more defined form so this one piece is like a big rod-like crystal. Gorgeous mineral. A bit too brittle for my taste but it's still a beautiful mineral for the collection.
Whenever I have gone on road trips, I have always liked looking out of the window at the sections of highway where they cut through a section of hill or mountain and you are driving between huge rock faces. (especially in SE Kentucky - so pretty) I often daydreamed about pulling over and finding something really cool. Is there anything worth looking for in those cut-throughs? (or am I better off searching gas stations for things you have left behind? haha)
The blue quartz is cool, up near me in Northern Virginia you can find buckets of the stuff if ya know where to look. Even found a solid chunk that weighs close to 20 lbs.
I saved a bunch of pyrite dust to one day make a really cool hourglass with it! Sometimes you spend so much time and energy breaking rocks that you might get better and more pieces picking up surface finds.
Nice 22nd comment! That’s my number! You and Matrix scored!!! I’m glad you found some cool rocks for me! LOL I’m at work right now... thinking bout diggin 😂
Hello and thanks for the beautiful and useful videos. I have a question and an inquiry. I live in a mountainous area. How do I know that the area in which I live contains precious stones. Please answer, if you please.
