My wife and I are so new that we’re still deciding the best camper for us to get. I’ve been watching you guys and the couple that does RV inspections and I have learned so much from your experience and insights that I feel well prepared when the time comes to make that purchase. I appreciate that you’re not too proud to admit your mistakes. You do a great job of relating to your audience so thank you very much. I look forward to watching more.

Best advice (by far) in this vid: 'In Marriage you can chose to be happy or you can choose to be right' - Extreme words of wisdom. Took me till marriage #2 to have that sink in. Still have to work on it from time-to-time but life is MUCH better operating in this fashion! Putting in awnings is a must. For years I RV'd at various sand dune locations for off roading & at least a half dozen times I saw people's awnings get flipped over rigs, mangled, & ripped clean off people's RVs from unexpected/surprise wind events.

On our very first RV trip many years ago, we forgot to close the garage door when leaving the house. Thankfully, a neighbor helped us out since we were already many miles from home. So, we always remember to take care of the house as well as the RV by using SEPARATE checklists.

I agree about RV parks being designed by someone who never camped. 20+ years ago I told a CEO of the Precious Moments corp that their new RV park at their event complex was designed by someone who never camped a day in their life. I then pointed out all the reasons I said that. He finally admitted that the architect who designed it designed golf courses for a living. It ended up closing and the property sold.

Many of the tips I actually was aware of before we left the pop up for a hybrid and now a stick & tin TT thanks to watching a TON of TH-cam videos. Yes, we have had arguments when backing in 😊. I am lousy at it and get anxious when doing it & have no patience. I have 2 t-shirts that say "Sorry for what I said last night when we were backing in the camper". 😂

We had friends who argued for about 45min to an hour while backing in the trailer. I think she wanted the trailer in one place and he wanted it in another. They had no walkies nor did they use their phones. It was very loud. We were glad it wasn't us! Thank you MJ & Izzy for the great video!

Something I have done for a long while....not sure how electric awning arms work but for those with manual awnings...I always use a strap around the closed awning arms(both) to give extras security so awning wont pull away from rv when driving...simple yet VERY effective!

I’ve been RV-ing, in one form or another, for something over 40 years and I never go on a trip that I don’t pick up some bit of knowledge. Everything you mentioned was familiar, but much of it was learned the hard way over the years. Safe travels, and keep the videos coming!

Hi Izzy & MJ! Great tips for all RVers! I know we have made many mistakes being newbies and now veterans. The tank level is so important, especially for full timers that have a washer....ask me how i know lol! The husband and I have not fought with parking our 5th wheel and that is without walkies or phone usage. We are almost always on the same page of where to maneuver because we both look at the situation together, that has always worked for us. Weight is a huge topic and i think the most overlooked item when RVing but its one of the most important, you need to know your weight. Safe travels!

I also choose “Happy” 😂. Once I went through a very narrow toll booth a scratched the RV a little bit. Since then I always choose the outer lane for trucks. Regarding #stuff: Once a year I take everything out of the RV and what I didn’t use for at least a year or two is not going back. We typically don‘t set up much outside. Of course the Blackstone grill but that’s actually about it. The chairs I just take them out when I need it then I store them back in the basement. This way it takes us literally 5 minutes to setup, everything stays dry and clean and packing up is a breeze. I do this even when we stay 3-4 weeks in one place. A big one is to move the drivers chair forward before you move the slide in. That’s maybe just a Newmar issue on some floor plans but Once I almost ripped something of. When I leave the RV I turn the water off at the pedestal, you never know. You covered a lot thanks for your great videos!

Campers/RV's should come with an outside awning button so your neighbors can hit a button to bring in the awning when your away. Campers, we look out for each other. I wouldn't mind if someone brings my awning in when an unexpected storm rolls in. Make it a standard feature for RV's/Campers

For the awning, heavy rain can take it down too. I’ve had wind destroy, and heavy rain over night do it too. We couldn’t open the door hardly to get out. Ended up having to cut the awning off. Thankfully insurance covered both.

Music to my ears 🎶 You’ve just gone through the whole nine yards of things I need to be prepared for when docking. I’m really grateful for the tips especially when emptying the black tank. It’s not something I ever want to experience 🫣& might consider buying a complete waterproof suit plus goggles 🥽 Maybe people should have some kind of warning system when emptying their tanks 😱💩
    It’s been a pleasure again 🥂💫

Thanks! My biggest mistake was forgetting to chock my TT wheels before unhitching. The trailer rolled back and the tongue jack slid right off the levelers and dropped about a foot with a BANG. Luckily, no damage and I was able to get it raised high enough to rehitch and start over. My wife was inside and it didn't even cause her to come out to see what happened. Really?!?! Afterwords, I level L/R, chock and X-chock, then unhitch and level F/B. Now we have a class-C with auto-level so it's a moot point.

Two things I've done when dumping. First, I have at least one clear section in the hose so I can see the flow
Second, I only partially open the dump valve at first so that I can. control the flow
Pulling the valve all the way out at first is surely going to cause a mess

  • @eddiedoherty2349
    @eddiedoherty2349 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Very good list. Radios because cell coverage may not be available. Even with radios, I never move unless I can see my wife in the mirrors when getting into a site. Extensions, I have had to use two hoses at a dump station. The other simple thing is for the person directing the Rv into the site is basic body measurements for the slides, shoulder to shoulder, or shoulder to other elbow. If it’s close we tape measurement or just move.

As a beginner (my husband, not me,) he couldn’t direct me right or left when pulling in a space to clear both pull outs, and fit as close to the pedestal as he like. It took him six months to learn, not to talk to the back bumper without a radio. Now we only war occasionally.

You can do what you want with the awning. I have been numerus places that had micro wind burst that would rip that awning and your hold down set up right over your RV. They come up faster than the wind sensor can react and bring in the awning.

Thermals (aka dust devils) can destroy an awning. They can happen anytime and multiple times. I know, Im a hang glider pilot and very well aware of the danger.

Forgot to check weather forecast one night and left awning out not knowing it was going to rain. Next morning awning would not retract. Checking manual I find this: "Do NOT leave awning out while raining" (Guess someone should have read manual earlier LOL) Due to the soaking awning took and that one end seemed to be a bit lower than the other a bind was not letting awning retract. I see people sitting out under their awning while it is raining all the time but that is something I no longer do. Thankfully with good advice from Lyn was able to finally get awning to retract.

Great tips!! I carry way too many stinky slinkies. I have two dumps, carry 2 20’ hoses and 4 10’ hoses. Actually gave one to a buddy who came up short. I do carry a 30 amp extension for emergencies, now.. learned that the hard way, came up about a foot short, had to use the power watch dog then the 50 to 30 dog bone and just made it. I seem to learn all the time, most of them aren’t too painful now. I like the idea of the awning tie downs I’m just concerned about pulling the fabric away from the side of the rig, that channel isn’t very thick.
