    Omg! I can’t believe people’s obsession with TVs!! I had the same thing! In my RV life I totally got used to no TV screen. I use my iPad or my phone to watch anything, and people are completely freaked out that I don’t watch a giant television for HOURS every day. It blows my mind. RV life made me a minimalist who loves outdoor adventures, and when I am indoors I am making Art. I am not currently full timing in an RV anymore, but I still live my same minimalist lifestyle and my friends and family do not understand at all.

    I pulled all three(?!?!) TVs down and have been repurposing their homes. The outside TV has become a tool locker. The TV over the dinette became a swing out computer monitor, mini library, and craft storage area. The master TV is becoming an equipment nook, with a 3d printer, photo printer, and all-in-one laser printer.

      It seems odd that they are putting so many TV's in. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like most people would want less TV's nowadays. I do like those TV's that come up out of the table. I also like projectors because you can take them outside and project them on a sheet hung on the RV and have outdoor movie nights.

  • @LilyBecca

    I would do the induction stove and just have a propane camp stove I could use outside if I was boondocking and wanted to save power. I would love to have a dishwasher!

    Get an Aurora Luxe split Cal King mattress that is 36x84. Put it on a platform with pull-out drawers and cantilever it to fit the space as necessary. Get pillows for the back and have a washable cover made for it to make a couch but one that even a tall person could sleep on. Tell RV Mattress how you plan to use the Aurora Luxe mattress(es) and that it will enhance your ability to advertise for them. If they get the idea they might even give you the mattress. BTW: You could also consider building a trundle-type bed and having two mattresses in that space just in case you have guests. (Have the frame/support built with the needed ductwork.) Either idea would work. What do YOU think?

    Whats important is that the renovations work for you! We've switched ours all around too. We actually purchased theater seating loveseat from Big Lots. It was much lighter weight than the RV couch, and so much more comfortable. We removed our televator/buffet/table and flipped the floor plan around. Theres now a dog bed with a smart TV hung over it and our couch is on the opposite side. We have a lot more floor space now. We used a collapsible table for eating. Its unfortunate you heat duct is thru the couch, maybe a day bed would be good. Then you can build storage underneath around the venting.

    Love the daybed idea but yeah, a lot of people are surprised that my kids and I have had no real use for a TV. I had several beautiful large tv's and no one hardly ever watched them cause they could watch on a device. So we have been TV free for 2 years and we do not miss them!

    We removed the TVs also, I like your ideas on using the space above the windshield. .The area behind the passenger seat (where your sofa is now)we did an TV lift cabinet that I build at a campground and 9- 1 foot square storage cubes 18" deep attached to the TV cabinet, unless the TV is up we still have the window view. It also doesn't impede the walk way when sled in.

      Great!!
      We have been RV’ing since ‘95, then we went to TTs (3 of them) since 2000.
      Hint 1) set up as much food planning ahead of time. My most favorite thing is to put cleaned & washed chicken in a zip bag, add BBQ (or other marinade) in the bag… mix and freeze it flat in your freezer. Time to fill the camper refridge, you have some ‘blocks’ of food to help with the chilling up of your unit.
      2) PLATES… I have a basket that I stand the plates up in! I put paper plates in between my chinette (?spelling) plates. It saves so much space!
      REMEMBER to have FUN!!

    There is just my husband and I in our household and we have two 80 inch tvs in the house and let me say that they might come on twice a week, however in our 5th wheel when we are down in Texas for the winter I like to watch tv in the evening because it gets dark so early down there. So if the biggest controversy you have is no tvs... no big deal. Love what you have done with your RV.

    I'd have LOVED a zero TV option or even a less TVs option when we bought our coach. I almost went with a Winnebago product I didn't otherwise like because it was one of the only ones that didn't have an outside "entertainment center". I find plenty of outside entertainment without a TV. In fact, the dealer opened that outside TV compartment when we took delivery and I haven't opened it since. That was 2019. Same with he bedroom TV. I've considered doing the same as you and getting an Amish craftsman to make me a cabinet door that matches the rest of the bedroom. Same with the living area. The huge TV there also encloses space behind it that is eaten up a lot with the cable and antenna stuff. It's tempting to rip all that stuff out too and have a door made for that as well. I like your closet organizer idea too. Very clever.

    I'm shocked, shocked and scandalized. By the amount of ambition and initiative. In my opinion, taking out the big box that was blocking the windshield is wise, the only caveat is making sure that the things are secured, so when you hit the gas, they don't tumble out on you. That's always maddening. As Matt has said, 'no RV is perfect', but I think yours is approaching that. I was wondering about the power draw from induction, and converting the fridge is a biggy. Did you leave the venting in? A lot of people block it off, but it still needs to be cooled, so I wondered. I'm liking it, keep up the good work.

    • @GratefulGlamper
      @GratefulGlamper  ปีที่แล้ว

      We did keep the venting in the fridge and since it’s 12 volt it’s not as power hungry as a residential fridge would be. Thanks for watching and the comment

  • @mmcdzip
    @mmcdzip ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I were replacing that couch, I'd see if there was a way to but another bunk over there and convert the bunk on the other side to a couch too. Might be tough because it's on a slide. Kind of like those bunk beds with the couch underneath and bed on top. Gets you more seating. And might be nice for the older kids to have a bit more of their own space. But it's hard to tell on the video of you could actually sit under the bed if you did that and exactly how wide it is. Thanks for sharing!

    Love the updates and upgrades y’all have made! We’re not ready to ditch the propane just yet, especially for heat. We mainly use electric heaters but I like the redundancy. Solar is the next frontier for us. Is your battery set up able to run an AC or just everything else?

    three questions.. [you mention down below but i find nada...] 1 what kind of elect stove? induction or?? 2 do you still have propane furnace? did you get rid of all the extra propane lines? 3 still have propane water heater? im curious.. i want the propane furnace, but the rest are dodgy and my trailer came with a dc compressor refrigerator.. im quite curious about a electric stove at least partially because its so difficult to keep the propane stove clean and as we all know the best way to keep mice away is spotless clean. thanks much

      Hey there, thanks for watching. We installed an induction cooktop and capped off the propane line that went to the old stove. We have a propane on demand (tankless) water heater from etrailer. Wonderful mods. You are right, it is your home and why not make it the way you want it. It seems like many people are getting older RV's and renovating them. The question I have is, some campgrounds are putting an age limit on the RV's ie anything over 10 years not welcome. Do you find that to be the case and if so how do you address that? Go to another campground? Thanks for the very informative and fun videos.

    I don't have a any TV in my RV either. I watch everything directly from my laptop. One question: How much did it cost to have someone come in and paint your cabinets? You might have about as many as I do, though maybe a bit less. I'm terrified of starting it because knowing me I won't finish it.

      It was around $2k - glad to hear we’re only the only ones with they ditched the TV

    Do you ever have issues finding rv spots because your rv is over 10 years old? Do your renovations help with that at all??

    • @GratefulGlamper
      @GratefulGlamper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve only ever run into this issue twice - and sending an email with a current photo (of the outside) and explaining that our rig is very well maintained has always gotten us around the 10 year rule

    Hi! Great video! But did you answer the question of "Is it legal?" How do we know for sure if it is? Do we contact the manufacturer's and then a lawyer? We have been "toying" with the idea of renovating our 2004 Class A Winnebago Adventurer and just want to make sure that is the right way to go or to leave our motorhome the way it is if we decide to sell instead.

    • @GratefulGlamper
      @GratefulGlamper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Resale value all depends on what a buyer is looking for. The comment that came from a view asking if what we did was legal was referring to the removal of all TV’s - which yes, it’s perfectly legal 👍🏻

    Your current ' Couch' situation. I wouldn't try to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. You talked about the size of seating, your slides & duct work. I would keep the 'Bones' and have it reupholstered in a fabric similar to ones used on outdoor furnishings. Durable, fashionable & keeping the same foot print. Take good care. Best Wishes from Canada!!

    Since you have a router that starlink is plugged into you can do away with the starlink router.

    • @GratefulGlamper
      @GratefulGlamper  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have the Starlink router in bypass mode, which allows the Peplink to handle everything. So the WI-FI on the Starlink router is off and just delivering power to the dishy. I can still stow the dish and see stats by going to dishy.starlink.com/ or from the app. Eventually, I’ll be installing an injector so I can get rid of the router and power everything on DC power (batteries only). More fun stuff coming in the near future!

    I don’t see why no TV is such a big deal to people. I haven’t had TV for over 7 years. It’s such a time waster and the kids don’t even care. We actually talk to each other and play games together. The kids create their own entertainment.

    Personally, I agree with the TV removal. Granted, we camp in our minivan (we call it our Class B-), but our phones and tablets are all we need. Someday, if/when we move up to a true motorhome or truck and trailer rig I will mount a couple monitors for my PC (which still wouldn't technically be TVs). Regardless, it's your home, you do you and anybody who doesn't like it doesn't have to visit. I suppose for those pesky smart alecks (like myself), I should stipulate you do you as long as it's not harming anyone else.

    Good stuff here! We bought a 2000 Newmar in about 2015 for a steal. It was also in great shape and we get many compliments too. I'd like to follow your lead and do an interior makeover with paint and similar items. I won't paint the cabinets because they're the blonde maple which I find just gorgeous. But the wallpaper and mirrors have got to go! Gotta agree with getting rid of the TV's as well. Plenty of other ways to watch movies and whatever.

      We just purchased a 2000 Newmar as well and are hoping to do some renovations in the future. We also removed the TV and now you offered a solution for the big box hanging down in our view from the window.

    They don’t make RVs like they used to. We have an ‘07 forest river that’s built like a brick. RVs I see now are thrown together junk with constant issues. “They don’t make ‘em like they used to.”

      They’ve come down in price (the batteries) and Battleborn runs some great deals from time to time. It all depends on your goals when it comes to RV life re: what makes sense and what doesn’t

    Holy cow... Modifying your overhead console? "Isn't that illegal??"
    Probably from someone who drives around in a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon with their "temporary" Handicapped hang tag dangling from their mirror blocking 20% of their forward view, a faded to white and grey Garfield "Hang In There" stuffed animal suction-cupped to the passenger front window block view to their right, parks in the fire lane ("I put my flashers on, so it's fine."), three out of their four tires are 15 lbs under-inflated and the other one is 15 over, and bumper stickers completely obscuring their rear window. Said vehicle probably burns a quart and a half of 40-weight between each fill-up of gas, leaving a cloud of smoke at each stoplight launch. This haze doesn't really hide their utter hypocrisy of their PETA, Green Peace, Earth Day, and World Wildlife Federatopm stickers in said rear window.
    (Nothing wrong with saving the planet, but shouldn't they really be driving a Tesla, Prius, (insert other electric car brand), or bicycling to get where you're going??)

    Please don’t say your looking out for the environment when you have a cell phone and solar panels. The cobalt in your phone was retrieved by slave labor by digging up minerals. The solar panels are made in china and they destroy the environment to make them and dig up the minerals. Especially when comparing to propane. Propane is the cleanest natural gas you can use. Not saying don’t use them, just dont say you are looking out for the environment while simultaneously using technology that effects the environment to be made.
