My amazing drum teacher is holding a percussion comp in September and I'm playing this song I am nervous but you are a big help because I listen to this. thank you soooooooo much
Ha ha, cool, but these vids are designed to be used IN CONJUNCTION with the book!!! It's available here: amzn.to/2NN1wGq Cheers man, thanks for watching!
Hi Mike, use your videos all the time as a baseline for practise. In this one, you put a fill in at bar 28, beats 3 & 4 (under D.S. al Coda) where there is no legend for it. Guess you were enjoying yourself! BTW some of us oldies remember the original song from 1972.
Thanks for watching Elsie! Yes just having a bit of fun - seemed appropriate to play a subtle fill to mark to transition back to the verse at that point. The diagonal slashes in the music mean continue in a similar vein with optional variations, so decided to throw in a little transitional fill there. Cheers!
Nice one Mike. Puzzled by the line in the book under 'Performance Tips' that says there is a drag on the snare before the first beat of the bar. I can't see it or hear it, but maybe I'm being thick!?
Julian Bramley Hi Julian, thanks for watching - I do remember reading that too, think it may be an error but I’ll check and report back to you- don’t have the book handy at present!
Hi Julian, just to follow up on this - yes it seems to be an error - there are no drags or grace notes written in this version of the song at all, at least not in my version. I think quite often the arrangements may go through some changes before the final version is released - that might account for the mistake and often those sort of things are fixed in future versions of the book. Cheers!
Hi Mike. I was doing the rockschool syllabus but decided to get the trinity rock and pop books too. Please can you direct me to the section in the book where it tells me where to download the songs for practice. Nice videos. Thanks.
Hi mike, I’ve just started grade 3 after passing grade 2 with 92% and I’m really stuck on the backbeat part of this song, can you give any tips to me please Thanks Alfie
Hi there, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I've recently done a little video lesson for this piece, found here: th-cam.com/video/sdTAqdSWgYY/w-d-xo.html Hope this is useful. Cheers! Mike :)
Hi Abi, thanks for watching. Cool that you want to perform this one! The sheet music for this is in the Grade 3 Rock and Pop drum book, available here: www.amazon.co.uk/Trinity-College-London-Drums-Grade/dp/0857366416 It's a great book with loads of other brilliant tunes of this level in. Cheers! Mike :)
Hi Payal, thanks for watching - all you need to know in the context of this piece is explained in the full lesson I've recorded for this song, watch it here: th-cam.com/video/sdTAqdSWgYY/w-d-xo.html Short version (from an online music dictionary): D.S., or Dal Segno, means “from the sign.” It directs the player to return to the spot earlier in the score that's marked by the symbol that look like a kind of funny dollar sign. If the marking says D.S. al Coda, the player is supposed to play from the sign to the “To Coda” marking, then jump to a coda section at the end of the music. D.C. al coda, or da capo al coda, literally means “from the head [beginning] to the coda.” D.C. al coda is an indication to repeat from the beginning of the music, play until you encounter a coda, then skip to the next coda sign to continue. Cheers man!

My tutor told me to add a drag at the end of the bit where you have to come up with yourself, finding it really difficult to do though
Hi mike, is there any chance you can email me the sheet music for this piece as I would like to play this for my gcse solo performance
Hi Abi, thanks for watching. Cool that you want to perform this one! The sheet music for this is in the Grade 3 Rock and Pop drum book, available here:

What do the dots do to the snares?
Hi there, they extend the value of the note they follow by half its value.
Like saying the phrase "and a half"!
My 2 grade was not good but grade 3 will be the best
What’s the sticking for the whole piece? Thanks reply.
Can you explain me coda , ds.al coda and dc.al coda ?? Please 😐
