My mom loved him, we tried to take her to hear him we had our tickets, but she wouldn't hear of it. Some things u just can't forget & he is one of those memories. I cried when I heard he had passed.

Had breakfast with him in Nashville about 11 years ago, me and 75 other good friends at a hotel conference room. He talked about his baseball career and wrapped up his Q&A with a song. I saw him at the Opry later that night, him and Joe Ed Brown, Mel Tillis (he might have been the next night), and Jimmy C. Newman. All gone now. Still some carriers of the torch, like Marty Stuart, but it’s enough to make a grown man cry. RIP Charlie and see you soon, but hopefully not too soon!
Not a huge Country music fan. But I'm sitting here browsing hits from the old days 60's thru 80's to find songs I remember hearing as a kid that I liked. There's a handful of famous names that got a good song or two maybe. And within those good songs there's generally only a spot or two when the VOICE actually makes a sound I really enjoy. In my opinion a lot of over rated singers. Then I happened upon this guy CHARLIE PRIDE. TRUST ME I AM NOT SAYING THIS BECAUSE HE'S BLACK..... BUT THAT'S THE BEST DAMN COUNTRY VOICE I'VE EVER HEARD. And the songs are really EASY TO LISTEN TO. Most country voices and songs can wear on your nerves REALLY QUICK. It's awesome when after decades and decades of living you DISCOVER something or someone that's been RIGHT UNDER YOUR DAMN NOSE the whole time and ya didn't even know it. First thing tomorrow is investigate and buy me hopefully a LOT of great Charlie Pride Country music.
