    I mad agree with you on the Deku and Faron Wetlands, man. That whole section of the game was my favorite part that had my favorite puzzles, rematch with the cloud boss who has a KILLER THEME SONG for his dungeons, harder stealth section, and a cool Faron Temple dungeon. Fantastic

      @@LittleBeanGreen It's a great game, and comparing it to Echoes of Wisdom is very helpful. Both Echoes and ALBW are fairly open with traditional dungeons, so their differences stand out more. ALBW can help convey the benefits of a more restrictive open world. Best 2D Zelda imo

    Agreed. It's 2 steps in the right direction, with solid dungeons that aren't just terminals and a plot driven game with actual progression. Also, having actual meaningful upgrades in the charms, might stones, and heart pieces are great.
    I still wish there were actual key items. Yes, the echoes kind of fill that role, but it's nice to go into a dungeon, struggle for a half, and then see it open up after getting said item.
    The combat is also still lacking. I was very passive generally, and after you get the ability to summon at a distance, there wasn't a feeling of danger ever.
    Still, I hope this is a stepping stone to returning to the Zelda I know and love.

    Great review! I enjoyed this game more than I thought I would. There are definitely some eyebrow raisers with the design choices. Part of that might be trying to combine two different formulas together, but even the main hook of the game doesn't feel like it was done the best it could be. my other comment may have sounded way more negative than intended so to speak of the game:
    it's really good! despite the flaws _summoner Zelda_ is something I wanted since Zelda 1
    The story being a return to form to all the lore is good. it doesnt tangle too much in it, which makes sense given the series hasn't in a while, but it adds to it and what it adds is really cool. I like Null. I feel they could've done a bit more with them and their personality and character design, but what's there is good.
    The characters honestly are all really nice.The Deku are great, the Gerudo are at their best they've been in the series. Conde is very good and I love the Twilight Princess inspiration of all things.
    Honestly a lot of the game's lore... felt kinda Twilight Princess? I was 100% expecting Tri to turn into the Still World's princess or something.
    As for the gameplay itself? I find it honestly a better take on aLBW's concept. Some things I like more in the former (like dungeon items), but it's I think a "cleaner" take here. The way it keeps tied to the story helps.
    I think it's a bit short of a game, that it needed perhaps one more layer. But I guess it's comparable to Minish Cap.
    Basically that's my main thought on it: It's a good game. It's a couple steps short of being _fantastic_ in doing what it sets to do for literally every aspect, to the extent it's hard not to think of that instead of the game itself, perhaps because of how it's trying new ground out, but for what it do it's really respectable and very fitting an old Zelda.

    • @LittleBeanGreen
      @LittleBeanGreen  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I compared it to Minish Cap as well - some will love it, some not so much, but it's just a solid game. I like Null too an am working on something about that. My original thought loooooooooong ago when Echoes was first announced was that Tri was some sort of royalty. I think this works just fine.
      A final dungeon would've made it a little longer ;)

Its good not great, not bad by any means. I like how the dungeons look, never been a major fan of the solving puzzles in multiple ways style. The combat to me is just boring, me and the streamer i watch had a great discussion about the tedium of combat (yes i know zelda is different and fights in different ways but ffs🤦‍♂️) the music in the game was really good imo. The story was just okay, better than botw or totk for sure but thats not saying much. Null was a decent new villain. Also not a fan of the plastic toy style but thats a preference thing. Overworld was cool, loved seeing the ruins of old dungeons from alttp.

    I was legitimately unenthusiastic about EoW considering how disappointed I was by TotK, because I cynically thought that Nintendo was going to keep trying to make lighting hit the same spot twice with BotW and that the end product was going to be a game that superficially imposed the "unlimited freedom" philosophy to the 2D zelda games in a way that felt insincere, but I was pleasantly surprised. There's definitely issues with it, and I'd just be parroting everyone else if I brought up the fact scrolling through hundreds of echoes to find the one you need is extremely annoying, especially since it was already a problem in TotK, but I think the fact that it was a much smaller game meant that everything felt so much more cohesive. Like, playing TotK, it didn't really feel worthwhile trying to explore every single cave or sky island or inch of the depths, because 90% of the time the reward was pretty mundane, and there' wasn't necessarily any way to know whether you were going to find something useful or just another bubbl gem, but I 100%-ed EoW twice since the game has released, because even if not every cave is an absolute master class in puzzle design, I at least know that I'm almost certainly going to find a piece of heart,might crystals, an accessory, or a powerful echo, and it makes me compelled to actually explore because I know it'll make me stronger (without just being another shrine I can just abuse rewind in)
    Also the echoes were surprisingly well implemented. I expected to just settle on a single one that I defaulted to for combat, but I actually found myself switching things up depending on the exact situation, which is way more compelling. I appreciate that swordfighter mode was there for people like me who do just like brute forcing their way through a combat scenario, and it was balanced enough that I didn't feel like I was wasting energy that would be a pain to get back every time I used it, while also not just being an easy get out of jail free card

    This is the problem with Nintendo. Maybe it is their desire to appeal to children more than adults.. but they don't seem to be interested or capable of designing modern-era Puzzles in 3D worlds. Instead, when they do so, they do so in 2D. Is it because it is easier and less time consuming? We'll never know.
    It is a safe product, and not one worth celebrating. Specially not at $60! If the 3DS existed, it would have been an acceptable $40 like a Link between Worlds.
    I also don't think that @9:35 "a step in the right direction" should be a sentence said out loud for a 38-year old franchise on a company that has YEARS of experience in the market. The truth is, they don't care about the lore or the older generations, nor the franchise being more than it is.. a cash cow. Slap "playable Zelda" on the trailer and people will buy it!! Even if it means that she basically acts as a Link and has little to NO personality whatsoever.

    • @LittleBeanGreen
      @LittleBeanGreen  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think they think less about the puzzle and more about the solution and if it can be solved in more than one way, it's almost more simple by definition.
      I think it's possible for a product to be safe and still be enjoyed, though I will agree with you on the price but that's not something that keeps me up at night. If a series reinvents itself over 38 years and some of those reinventions are missteps, then I think it's perfectly acceptable to say that a particular iteration is "a step in the right direction." And honestly, as long as things are consistent within a game or when a set of games is billed as a sequel, then that's fine by me.

    I literally just got to the end of today and I have to say, as someone who was ready to give up the series after the last two games (And Aonuma's statements) I don't regret buying this game at all. I don't want to watch too much since I'm not finished with the game yet, but I very much like how the overworld progresses throughout the game. I love that the plot causes areas to evolve, like rifts appearing in areas where there were previously none. However, I'm pretty disappointed with the dungeons. The 3D Zelda games had long devolved into just a series of shrines as far back as Wind Waker or Twilight Princess, but 2D Zelda didn't succumb to that...until now. Having done 5 dungeons in Echoes so far, only the fifth one (in Hebra) has been at least decent. I'm partway through the Faron one though and it has a lot of promise, I'll probably end up liking it.
    The first four dungeons have been probably the worst dungeons in the series so far. The puzzles are good, the mechanics are good, but the way the rooms are strung together as linear hallways leaves much to be desired. I'll check back on this video when I finish the game though, 'cause maybe you said all that lol.

      @@LittleBeanGreen I finished the game and I'm pretty much in full agreement with your video. I think the next Grezzo Zelda game will knock it out of the park. The only qualm I'll add is that the quest to each dungeon in this game is structurally the same. Wrap up 2-3 mini rifts by collecting tears of light stand-ins, then make your way to the main rift. I would have preferred more dungeon quest variety.
      I do disagree with calling these dungeons "classic dungeons." I think they are in a very superficial sense, like they have keys and walls preventing you from skipping over rooms. But the distribution of keys is boring, there's no push and pull with using keys to open a door not knowing when you'll be able to find your next key. The echoes you obtain in the dungeon really should act as items/big keys, transforming the space once you have that echo, but that rarely happens. Most dungeons are hallways. I think of 7 dungeons, I'd say maybe Jabul, Faron, and Hebra are close enough to classic dungeons. But the rest aren't classic dungeons, they feel more like Bowser levels from a Mario game to me.

  • @matheusdalbem6605
    @matheusdalbem6605 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The real issue with this is that the game is not a balance between two formulas, because it is something else in its own right. It does borrow a lot from BOTW/TOTK, for sure, and it does have more emphasis on puzzle solving like ALTTP or maybe something like Ocarina, but it is none of those games altogether. Exploring this Hyrule feels different to what we have experienced and even the dungeons are not as restricted as you made them sound to be, since you can solve them in different ways across many sections. The only difference is that now the creative-less side of the fans can also enjoy the game now, because level design is obviously directing you towards one specific answer, while fans that still want to explore the possibilities within the puzzles can create their own restrictions and rules and try out whatever echoes the may seem fit, and they don't need any signaling whatsoever. No Zelda dungeon was ever like that, and for them to be like this, you need a new approach, not a re-use of assets and ideas of other games.

      @LittleBeanGreen  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      But structurally, the game is more like older games. You have to complete certain things before you can complete the next order of things. That is MORE like the old games and less like the era of the wilds games. You can still solve puzzle within the dungeon in a lot of ways, but you're still in the dungeon. That was my point.

    The echo system I feel just lacks, some basic meta game design and wider, actually plaing the game, perspective.
    A few weaker ones that served to more directly do damage early on would change a lot, in contrast of strong, slower ones.
    The ignizol is very good for this purpose, you get it very early and just spawning it on top of enemies burns them, is essentially like casting a weak fire, which gives Zelda that sorceress feel. but it's easy to miss and not very spamable.
    So a couple few, more spammable ones that attacked right away but were weak/put you in the fray/needed more direct handling would serve alleviate the managing of stronger echoes. Have Keese or maybe Zols start with a lunge forwards. (Keese would be really a really fun visual lore nod since that's how Ganon attacks)
    Like there's a few that totally work this way but you need early ones, to ease into doing something while the fighting echo is fighting. to teach players not be in the face of enemies without reason.
    And also just really lean more on the potential of using echoes as "items" and "abilities". it tries a little, but then it just devolves into "use bind" "just throw any (x) thing". no, force me to use more particular echoes. require octorok stacking to hit targets.
    Like, to elaborate on how I would see echoes done right: there should've been firebars in this game, undefeatable dangerous obstacles that bother you the whole game, and then a single place, maybe in a dungeon, where there's one that you actually can destroy. this gives you a really powerful directly damaging echo, that however is very dangerous to use. It doesn't help for most puzzles, but then there's a Din's Fire situation.
    Also just, get rid of water blocks. the Minecrafting echoes need a lot of balancing too. Beds should cost 2 or 3, make stacking an actual puzzle!
    I was excited about Bind and other abilities as ways to implement progression, but unfortunately the game seems to understand as "echoes do whatever, bind solves everything, and in the end you fight with Sword"

      It would've made perfect sense to have these specific echoes in dungeons, especially because there are tiers of linearity, you could design later puzzles with them in mind so they not only aid you in their associated temples, but later throughout the game.

      it's still good, but it's hard to not see it as an echo its potential
      it reminds me, there's a particular part of the game that made me really interested before kinda being disappointing: That one "Dream Training" place, setting you up with puzzles and especific echo combinations for you to have and use. It'd have been perfect as both kinda to teach players early on how to use echoes, and show how echo puzzles can get. But it kinda feels a bit of a chore.

    FINISHED!
    And!…
    It’s impressive.
    I can see what the devs were aiming for with new experimentation to the Zelda series. However, some Echoes I tampered with are for the most part… unresponsive… (I was going to say broken, but I wouldn’t call it that…)
    Also, in terms of story…
    It’s a Zelda game. Retcons or not.
    I know we’ve been there done that with the series lore, but from this point, let’s just say Nintendo can alter the lore however it wants… Just as long as it doesn’t tie in with the lore surrounding the struggle between Hylia and Demise, the battle through time’s flow, which reality occurred, which ceases to exist, you get the point. Zelda IS a multiverse series.
    As for the final battle… I would’ve considered it epic… but you’re no longer doing the fighting. You’re still pretty much in real-time Pokémon strategizing mode.
    Also, the themes surrounding a void, first there was nothing, then life began. There were those for order, peace, and light, others for chaos, war, eternal darkness and suffering. I think other franchises handled the themes better… like Kirby and Sonic.
    While I’m attempting to get into the Sonic series, my knowledge with it is little to none…
    But speaking of Kirby, there were so many theories regarding Kirby’s “connection” to Void Termina, the true antagonist of Star Allies, that started out as a being of the void. It was originally called Void. Just a neutral space of emptiness, until it was tainted by a demonic influence that became the monstrosity that those who worship it are under its hold against all will… There’s a lot going around. But I may have mentioned this before, but where Zelda suffers from its chronology, Kirby suffers with its canonicity… You can search up what is canon and what isn’t, and then ask yourself, what were the other modes about to begin with? AND WHO THE F-(censored) IS GALACTA KNIGHT?
    Okay, I’m going beyond the point.
    The Heroes versus the darkness of the void, I think other games did it better… and others worse… Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s World of Light mode had this sort of plot too, but in the most generic and copycatted way possible… (Seriously, why are people encouraging Mr. Sakurai to make more story-driven adventure modes that do this?)
    Ahem… ANYWAY…
    Echoes of Wisdom isn’t necessarily for everybody,. To me, it’s not the kind of game I’d treasure dearly, and neither is it the kind I would want to “cast away”. It holds up. Definitely for those who want to play as the titular princess in a brand new method of exploration in a top-down environment. Is it GOTY worthy? Not to my eyes, but another worthy contender to the franchise. Would I choose to play this over BOTW/TOTK? It’s a tough call, but at least the traditional elements hold up.
    Now Nintendo, will you please take my ideas for a Zelda spinoff game into consideration…
    AND GIVE MY *ULTIMATE* METEOR HEEL STOMPER THE GLORY SHE DESERVES?!?!
    I’M BEGGING YOU!!!!!!! 😬

    I found the first 1/3 of this game enjoyable and unique but quickly became extremely repetitive, predictable, and down right too easy. The dungeons were a welcome sight, but quickly became as easy and boring as the shrines in BOTW and TOTK. Overall, a game with a lot of potential but quickly gets caught up in its own concept. The open concept and the echoes become its Achilles Heel.

      I feel you! (Also, don't let yourself be shamed over a decision surrounding *your* money. If your statement "makes sence" for you, it makes sence)
      As someone who absolutely hated this game from what I saw in the tarilers (The fighting system and the puzzle solving philosophy were my main critics. Menu and frame rate too of course but those aren't exactly the core of the whole game) after playing it, I can admit, it wasn't as awful as I expected it to be. (I only bought it because it had a hefty discount. I'm happy with what I got for 45$ but I still wouldn't pay full price for it.)
      It deffinatly has exactly those problems I was worried about. The map doesn't feel like for example the minish cap where you explore an area while still being on a set path. You still sort of have to comb through each area to find everything, which I didn't enjoy in either botw or totk. Also, the fact that you can climb walls and walk over trees lets you skip many of the actally challenging paths you'd otherwise have to go through.
      The puzzles do work better than in botw and totk but I'd still preferr one solution for one puzzle by a long mile. You will deffinatly be using the same solution more than once or twice because it's basically the same puzzle.
      The echo fighting system also just doesn't do it for me. Waiting for an ai to attack is just boring.
      I do feel like those criticisms do not have as much weight though as I thought they might have. If you are not a 100% player the combing through the ares isn't that big of a problem (I usually do complete my games but here I won't even bother searching for that last heart piece)
      and while the fighting system is awful the game does let you use your sword a lot more than expected. (It's sort of funny that you can basically refuse to use the echoes for fighting although that is the main mechanic 🤣 Just carry enough perper-special-mix smoothies and you'll be fine when you remember to switch it of again.)
      The story is deffinatly better than in totk, the characters are memorable, the music... is actually sort of boring (Exept the theme of the vulcano dungeon. It's fire) Most tracks are really hard to remember for some reason. Never happened to me with any other soundtrack before.
      All in all, while it will deffinatly never come close to any of my favorite Zelda titles, it isn't the worst game I've played. (For me it is better than botw and totk. They were way to overwhelming and empty at the same time) I didn't have to force myself through and it was just fun almost all the way through. (I still wouldn't buy it for full prize though.)
      Those are pretty mich my thoughts on the game. I hope this either changed your mind or validated your decision. (The worst part for me choosing not to buy the game (before I knew there was a discount) was not beeing able to ground that decision on anything but the trailers. So I constantly questioned whether I should or shouldn't buy it.) I hope this was useful. (And like I said, it's your money. Do whatever you want with it. People who say your statements about your own opinion do not make sence are nothing but silly 🤣)
