    Saved my ass, also found my doo was broken while doing this! Great info!
    Edit: more frequently than not enough: that line has really resonated with me after this.

    That don't look to bad. Will it still click if it's the stock spring?

    • @MuzzleMike
      @MuzzleMike  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should .

    Good video. You should tighten the bolt to spec. though. Motor is now quiet, smooth

    Is this the stock doohickey or the Eagle Mike one? I have a 2008 KLR that I just purchased and I'm hesitant to do the adjustment without knowing if it has ever been replaced. Your thoughts?

    • @MuzzleMike
      @MuzzleMike  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is eagle mikes . I would do it and if I do not hear anything . I would order the kit and do it . At least take a look at it since it is a none weak link .

      @mcrossland 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking you would hear a click if you had a strong spring and the EM kit. Maybe not with stock. Hmm.... Wonder how you know if the stock one has failed without taking it apart.

      +Mike “mcrossland” Crossland I would not chance it . The one way I know of is to ride it and it will kill it self . That would cost more then to take a look at it .

    Hi Mike.
    Thank you for the video. I just found out about the doohickey recently.
    What do you think about loosening the tensioner bolt, and then cranking the engine with the spark plug wire unattached?
    Do you think that that would help the spring tighten up as the chain is moving around on the sprockets?

    • @MuzzleMike
      @MuzzleMike  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      L Conway It would not hurt anything . I think just doing what I showed is good . It is just to get the spring reset . If you find that it is not resetting . You should get a new spring . Saying that . Most of the time . They do reset . The largest problem comes from the duehicky not being changed from stock . Some do get away with not doing it . I rather just do it and know the bike will be ok . Thank you ! Great question !

    Mr Mike,..at what intervals or milage does this need to reset?

    • @MuzzleMike
      @MuzzleMike  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It says every 5k but I do my oil change every 3k and just do it then . It is easy to do and your are down there anyways . Thank you !

    Did it ever occur to anyone that Kawasaki doesn't want you to do this that it's the way they want it as it is? It looks like they don't want tension on the chain.

      They do tell you to adjust it this way in the shop manual. That is where I got my info. Sadly this manual had miss printing . From what I understand. It was very common. Thank you . Good thinking out side of the box .

    I've heard 6.5 ft lbs torque, but snugged down like that should be good enough

    • @MuzzleMike
      @MuzzleMike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you . Lol ! I have done mine like this since 2021 and have not had any trouble .

    • @jimh4525
      @jimh4525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm good with snugging on down but just for informational purposes it calls for 78 inch pounds of torque. Saw a 1/4" drive click type torque rachet at Harbor Freight last weekend for $20

    A small ball peen hammer is better because you want to create small sharp shockwaves to release the doohickey tension.

      southbound1969 You are 100% right ! I did not think of that . Thank You .

      Don't think I'd be hitting a motorcycle engine casing with ANYTHING other than a rubber mallet.

    book says 7500 miles and torque is 78lbs
