It was so sad when I took my baby girl Elphaba for her first check five years ago when I got her and the vet told me that she has seen so many guinea pigs go in very sick and the owner says "they have never seen a vet." Or "I didn't know guinea pigs needed vets." Are you kidding me? They are living animals of course they need a vet. 😞
You should do Patreon as well, or an option for an automatic monthly donation option (5, 10, 25, 50, 100) and you could include a monthly newsletter with updates about all the pigs the people have helped that month. Also, hope for paws runs fundraisers on their videos to raise money for their rescue! Maybe an ebook? You are soooo knowledgeable about piggies. I will be donating, but just thought I would throw out some other options!
All that you suggest are really good ideas but non-profit organizations also rely a lot on volunteers and what you are suggesting is a MAJOR project not only in the design and set up but in keeping it updated. All of course relying on consistent donations. Those are all really good ideas!
I am a piggie sniffer too, but everyone looks at me funny! 😂 I swear if I ever end up with more money than I know what to do with, I'll take a trip to LA.
I do this as well. I smell them and say oh you smell so fresh today. I had a horse who i loved the smell. I would bury my nose in his neck and he smelled soo good.
There is such a sad irony to the fact that there is such a gap in the knowledge about medication and surgeries for guinea pigs, yet guinea pigs have given so much advancing medical research for humans (which is very sad in itself 💔).
Burrowed Hearts Animal Rescue Burrowed Hearts Animal Rescue I understand that, but what my comment was saying is that thanks to guinea pigs, we know that humans need vitamin C, we have vaccines and treatment for TB, asthma medication, kidney dialysis, heart valve replacement, antibiotics and so much more. They have contributed so much to the medical advancement of human kind, and yet we know so little about them medically speaking other than the fact that they are somewhat similar to humans. It’s not right that they are tested on at all, and it breaks my heart, but in the bigger picture, a lot of good has come from it. I understand that guinea pigs can’t sign consent forms, but denying that testing has helped advance treatment of serious illness in humans is also not giving the animal the respect it deserves. They’ve helped us, now it’s our duty to find better, synthetic analogs to test on so we don’t need to subject any beings to unnecessary suffering.
Burrowed Hearts Animal Rescue Here is some info on how animals are currently used in research (it’s not graphic at all) about the ethics of animal testing in scientific research. I’m not trying to justify it at all, but it helps to see the whole picture. This site isn’t a perfect source (none are) but it has some information that has helped me understand why some kinds of testing have been done and for what purpose. www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/animals/numbers-animals/guinea-pigs-in-medical-research/#
I'm amazed at everything you do for these piggies! So lucky to have someone like you taking care of the awesome animals. One of your videos about evening intakes had me in tears just bc of how badly cared for the piggies we're and how lucky they were to come to the rescue.
Thank you for the update.on these beautiful babies Thank the lord there are people like you who care and do so much to help and find homes for all the piggies in need x
Thank you for taking care of them all! I've never seen a piggie that I didn't like but something about Harmony really caught my eye. If Pennsylvania wasn't so far away...
Ah, I'm so glad the two bath buddies were able to get along! What a lucky match, for them both. Glad the majority of the piggies are doing better, no doubt due to your caring and commitment. You guys are champs! Thank you for doing what you do, and thank you for showing all of us outside of your immediate area. And Saskia, you're truly beautiful, inside and out. The piggies are so fortunate to have you!
I made the trip from San Francisco, had a wonderful visit and my piggy Seymour was treated by Dr Kanfer, who is now completely better. Thank you again Saskia!
Scotty, you need him, or Saskia! He's a doll, a very special piggy, whoever gets him is very blessed! Oh, how I wish I was there, they're all so, so beautiful! Bruno is so beautiful, please get him better!
You guys should join Patreon and let people pledge a monthly amount for access to extra videos! I’d love to watch more behind the scenes videos of intakes and adoptions (like the live video the other day) :)
Thanks for the updates..love you guys and love all the hard work you do to provide these sweeties with a real chance of a happy and healthy life..you all deserve an award for it and some pampering yourself :)
When I see a post asking 'What do I need for my new piggies'? I always advise the poster to make an appointment with an exotic vet, so that when their piggy/ies get sick or injured, they and their piggy already have a good relationship with their vet and they won't stress as much.
All our piggies are registered with the vet within the first week of coming home and within the first 2 months of being home they go for their first heath check with the vet. I'm really lucky, my local vet has a couple of cavy savy vets. When I had my first two ladies, there was only one savy cavy vet who was a breeder and shower and he was jealous of the condition my little ladies were in. He loved seeing them for their yearly check up when they were younger.
Those babies were adorable, especially the one with the brown patch on its nose. I will happily make it my pilgrimage. And i will support you as much as i can until i get there. lol the cucumber grew some celery. that's one cool cucumber. Harmony has the faux hawk. so cute.
I'm fairly new to your channel, but I'm curious about the special needs sanctuary you mentioned. Can you talk more about that? I love you guys and all you do! I have my first pigs and they have a great life because I watch you on the regular 😊
Boris sounds like my Lt Dan did! 😢 I was always told he had pneumonia and he should have been put down, but I couldn’t do that to him. He lived to be about 6 yrs
So, nice, when Saskia was filmed by Scotty. Scotty, would make Saskia laugh, and did a great deal of the talking, so, that Saskia, could mainly focus on the health checks and respond casually. People don’t realize the effort it takes to talk to viewers. True the viewers are everything, but, the main focus should be the health of the guinea pigs. It’s not easy all the work, Saskia, puts into bringing attention to rescue piggy’s. Scotty, always full of enthusiasm, just kept the conversation flowing, really helping Saskia along; making for a really good team. Go Saskia and Scotty!
I've told my partner for my 40th I would love to come to LA and volunteer with you guys for a week! I've given her plenty of notice, I turn 40 in five years time! Maybe you could do that to raise funds? Offer being a piggie carer for the day like they do at zoos?
I have my Female Ginnie pig who I suspect who has what I think what is a memory gland tumor. I'm taking her to the vet next week. Thanks so much Saskia. You have talked about memory gland tumors before so it helped me to diagnos my poor darling girl Poppy. My other female pig is eating loads but losing loads of weight. Again I remember when you had a Ginnie pig with a thyroid problem I am concerned she might have the same. My girls are both 3 years old. I hope and pray I can get them better soon 🙏 💕
I recently got my sisters impulse purchase, her male guinea pig Milo. I have been doing tons of research since she got him about 1-11/2 yrs ago because ik how irresponsible she is. I am a single mother of soon to be 2 kids and I have always tried to collect money here and there to make sure her guinea pig has everything he needs. Fresh veggies and fruits. Clean bedding and hay. Pellets and wood chews for his teeth. I'm saving up for a bigger cage because ik his cage if way too small for him. My sister wouldn't let me have him until recently because she wanted me to buy him off of her even though I've bought most of the things he needs throughout his life which has been way more than she purchased him for. Now he absolutely loves human contact when before he would run away and hide. He squeals Everytime my son or I walk through the door. Hell stand on his back legs sometimes to get my attention. When I pet him he'll just stay in place and let me and if I stop hell squeal at me to pet him more. He let's my 3 yr hold him in a blanket. I would love to get him a buddy because ik they r best in pairs but ik I don't have the money to care for it or the room until I get Milo his bigger cage he deserves. Toledo stole my heart and I hope he gets a home soon. I hope they all do and i love everything u do for these piggies. One day I would love to donate and help if I can. I'm studying to further my education so I can be able to do that and support my 2 kids and my little man Milo. Thank u for everything u do 💕💕💕
