I thought it was a bird squawking, at first, too. 😯 What strange sounds, from a piggy! I hope he's able to become more comfortable. He's purring / growling a lot, too. Love talkative piggies. 😍
A pet is an addition to the family for the extent of their lives. It’s a commitment to care for them through thick and thin, and not toss them away like a used toy. I’m very happy with my elderly piggy(and his younger piggy friend, both are rescues). He’s around seven years old, has cataracts and a benign inoperable tumour, but he’s one of my babies, he’s otherwise in good health, and I do my best to help him to stay nice and comfy in his elder years.
Oh wow 7 is pretty old, that's wonderful! Sometimes the older ones are total characters cause they can be grumpy and fussy or bossy and it's an absolute delight to have them.
I also have an elderly piggie who's 11 and also cataracts , she now is in "retirement" where I feed her a lot more fun foods that are of course safe for her , she is my baby and its sad people would put them down in these kind of ages.
I love the older animals. I would not hesitate to adopt those boys. They are wonderful little guys! Thank you Saskia for all the time you take to keep us informed on their care.
It makes me angry when people plan to put down their animals just cause their sick of them. Shows a complete lack of morality and responsibility. There's so many ways to rehome a pet, but they choose just to kill it. People like that shouldn't have pets at all. Good thing people like you are there to save those poor animals.
I am a new piggy mom. I didn't want one but my son rescued it from an awful home where he was very neglected. And I am a sucker for unloved animals. I took him for a check up today and he checked out in very good health. He did get eye drops for a crusty eye but Dr said it was probably from a get pock. He did say in his 30 years he has never seen a pig run for the owner and his under my chin. He said he has never seen a piggie love the owner like that. And it made him happy to see me love my baby so much. I found it sad that some people don't love their babies. What he didn't do was check his stuff like you do. I need to make an appointment to have you check all that and he needs a piggie partner. I do have to wait until after we are back from our passover . My hubby only wants to truck one across America.
How can people be so cruel.... they are family you don’t just get rid cos you’ve had enough or they’re old...sometime I hate people!.....then I see your videos and it restores my faith in mankind....the wonderful care you give to all the piggies...... I can’t say it enough ....Saskia.....you’re amazing ❤️❤️❤️and you and your team are just superb.....I adore you love and hugs from me and my tribe from bargoed South Wales UK
Very informative as usual, thank you once again Saskia and the camera person! Shout out to her! :) She's always asking questions the viewers are likely to want to ask (at least in my experience). Keep up the great work, guys! Wheek wheek wheek! :D
The second One red and black he was in a lot of pain his arthritis is very bad I’m so glad that he was brought there from you to to take care of and you put him on CBD thank you for loving all the guinea pigs and all the animals that god has created god bless you and family friends and person there for all the hard work and dedication to help save them and most of all take away their painful suffering that they should have never had through her comes my happy tears again
The Dollar Tree now carries a dental tool like this!!! I picked one up yesterday for my cricut machine but its a dental tool. Thank you Saskia for all of the informative videos. I couldn't do this mom pig life without you!!
They're both so cute and sweet! I wish I knew why the owner gave them up because they look pretty well looked after. Thank you for showing the teeth cleaning. I got bitten by my 7-year-old girl yesterday while removing some hay from between her teeth. I never thought to use a cotton bud lol.
I adopted two little guys about 3 months ago. Both are about 12mths old and were from hoarding situations. One little man has severely torn up ears from being crammed in a tiny room with over a hundred other pigs and has bad ongoing fungus issues in his mouth 😢. Nothing has really helped so far, but I’m finding the longer he’s in a good home with proper food, it’s slowly healing and looking better. He’s been on 2 antibiotics, pain/anti inflammatory meds and different creams. I’m just hoping it clears up for good 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I adopted a 5yr old boy last week. Being the right hand woman to the owner, I go to the sanctuary all of the time. When I got there, his 5yr old cage mate had passed away in the night. And being so old, no one wanted them. So when we closed that evening, I came home with my 9th furbaby. 😍 We have an apartment, so after him my hubby had to put his foot down.
I used to think Saskia was the guinea pig WHISPERER, but after seeing her hold them to her ear like a telephone, I now know that she is actually the guinea pig LISTENER❣
I love watching you I have two piggies a boy and a girl. I wish I lived in Cali cause then I could adopt a piggie from there. But I live in ga. I hate it when people don't want a poor piggie.
That first boy was making some really weird noises at first, then you touched his weenie and he fell in love, that purr said it all!!! I love it when you talk on the guinea pig phone, I do it all the time with my girls, the sound of their breath and tiny heartbeats are so soothing. You have the magic touch with the piggies
I never get tired of watching your videos, soooo useful. But you make it look soooo easy. For my piggies nail clipping is NOT an easy thing! And the first piggie that squawking sound I've never heard before. And the second piggie was soooo upset that you took him away from his new Buddha friends LOL!!! Those piggies are so big, are they Cuys?? And they're both so beautiful I'd keep them both!!
The q's and a's are really well put forward, and interesting, here. Hopefully these 2 beauties will be adopted soon, they are so precious! Thanks for a great video 🌹💕
Saskia, your whole vibe makes me so happy! 😍 And I LOVE the long video, I feel like the 10 minute videos are too short! ❤️I hope that you will consider longer videos in the future as well, even if you repeat stuff you've shown in earlier videos.

i’m getting piggies soon and these videos have SO much more information than anywhere else i’ve researched and i’ve been looking into them for 3/4 years. thank you for what you do
All the surrenders you deal with must make things difficult but I'm sure happy you do what you do! So grateful for what you do for my pigs! What is bony butt?
Hahah a bony butt is something I started saying when talking about seniors. Older pigs usually start to lose weight even when eating well and develop a "bony butt"
Great idea with the snak shak. Looks cool! It also it has polypropylene glycol. Same as anti-freeze. It's in an amount that is generally considered safe. Heck, they put in in human commercial ice cream. 🤮. I make my own ice cream now.
My pigs stopped running around. They walk a little but prefer to lay around. They are gonna be 4 in a few months. I'm definitely gonna check them out for arthritis
This video is so helpful to first piggie onwers like me to know what to look out for so thanks for your time and it makes me sad that that many people have to give you their pigs cos they don't like them or want to take care of them x
They are such a cuties! One of my pigs gets spurs and always has. He also gets calluses around his foot pad, so I have to be careful and check to make sure it doesn't tear.
Older piggies are so handsome. I have an older piggie and he kisses me and I kiss him daily. I call it my kissy frenzy. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Hi I love your videos I have 2 Guinea Pigs and there very skittish there 2 little 3 month old girls so when I clean there cage next I will try to remember to do that trick with them because when I go to pick them up they always run away and my mum had Guinea pigs when she was a girl so she gets down on the ground to pick then up for me. Your videos have really helped me thank you Saskia and Scott!
I may be a Syrian Hamster Owner, but honestly this is helping get the idea that guinea pigs would be a lil much for me at the moment. Though if my shelter does struggle with finding homes for the 2 girls they have I can hopefully use the info you rad lads put out to help them if they need volunteers. They really do not get rodents much so I am studying up really.
I’ve got my CBD ready. My piggies are all seniors from unwanted situations. I love my piggies so much now seven. We are moving them all from upstairs to downstairs today for more attention. Have a few open cages here in Ohio wish I could help. Any advice to help them to gain weight would be great? My girls are definitely bony butts. Bless you Saskia for helping the piggies and helping us to give better care.
Very appreciated video. I do the ear and nails and check growth of teeth but did not know about the food that can get stuck. I will also check the throat for I had two elderly Guinea pigs that the vet treatment did not work. I will also purchase that pain medication for my pigs are between 3 and 4. I have 5 female pigs whom all living happily together in my very big wooden cage of about 8 feet long and 2 feet deep. The bedding is fleece. I use coconut oil for their dry ears and to help with cleaning. I hope that's ok. Thank you for your information on the regular care check up.
Aahw cutie.. and i just wanted to say that i really like the combination with the camera lady and saskia.. for me you really work well together and love to see it :D
hey I'm pretty young but when I grow up I wanna be a vet so that's why my mom let's me be responsible for pets at the age of myself.I watch these vids to help me with my guinea pigs .I also have a hamster and a dog and yes I do. have 4 guinea pigs and of course I wouldn't only get 1! haha.well if you could tell me where this rescue place is.If it's pretty close to my place maybe I'll come by and help to take them home to a large environment outdoors with 4 females.my guinea pigs are so young and they've gotten better everyday and now I can hold them and be confertable with them ! please carry on doing these great vids!
Please let me know how much Vitamin C to give each of my piggies orally. I watched your other video on how adding to water makes vit c useless. I should know better. TIA
I've only had my girls a couple of months and I watch you and Scotty all the time I've learned so much from you,...but I have one Beanie she's bit of hog,she hogs every thing from pepa,,,play things to food,,and to me pepa doesn't seem to be gaining weight like beanie is,,she looks skinny to me,..should I separate them at feeding time?
Thank you for these as always great and detailed explanations Saskia! I have another question for you today ^^ On the guinea pigs owners group I'm in (again), they stroooongly recommand a quarantine period of 40 days every time you want to introduce a new pig to others! They say this is for sanitary reasons: The new pig has a risk to declare scabies or ringworm (for exemple being a healthy carrier and having desease declare due to stress), that would then get transmitted to the others... What do you think of this? I don't believe you bother with someting like this, is this maybe because the ivermectin you apply on the ear is enough to prevent any of these to appear? Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer me :) I love to try to share what I learn here with my stubborn group!
Hi Marion - you are right we rarely quarantine. Scabies (mange) is not contagious anymore after the first application. So since ALL the pigs get Ivermectin as a preventative this has never been an issue here. All pigs that come for health checks also receive the Ivermectin treatments so we actually never ever have an outbreak of that. Ringworm is usually very visible and is not as contagious as most people think. (or maybe not so contagious here in CA due to the dry climate) fairly easy and inexpensive to treat. All new pigs get a thorough health check when they arrive. I hope this help a little explaining it.
I wonder why some pigs have such nice nails that don't require as much trimming? I had one like this once, I only needed to cut his nails a few times his whole life and he lived until the age of nine! Is it genetics? All my other piggies have nails that grow and grow (and very thick too).
Wow I wish there was a place e like this close to me I'm having trouble even finding a vet to see my babies around here I just got them a week and a half ago and I really want to get them checked over to make sure the are healthy they're around 12 weeks old I got them from petsmart (not thinking) I should have got a pair from a breeder but I love them either way the store doesnt give them anything but hay and pellets
2:30 sounds like the quacking of a duck. never heard a piggy make that noise. Oh so glad they came to you.
I thought it was a bird squawking, at first, too. 😯 What strange sounds, from a piggy! I hope he's able to become more comfortable.
He's purring / growling a lot, too. Love talkative piggies. 😍

yeah, I just adopted an 11 year old Boston Terrier...had to spend a bundle on his dental care but it was worth it; he's a sweetheart:)
Omg a guinea pig that is 11 years old!! That’s very cool
I guess I am kinda off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch new tv shows online ?

Yea, it makes me mad when people abuse their pets like they wants to kill these poor animals. People should show respects, and not be an abusers.
I love how Sas was completely unfazed but that first guinea quacking

Ringworm is usually very visible and is not as contagious as most people think. (or maybe not so contagious here in CA due to the dry climate) fairly easy and inexpensive to treat. All new pigs get a thorough health check when they arrive. I hope this help a little explaining it.
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue Hi! Yes, it helps. Thanks a lot for your answer!! :)
I wonder why some pigs have such nice nails that don't require as much trimming? I had one like this once, I only needed to cut his nails a few times his whole life and he lived until the age of nine! Is it genetics? All my other piggies have nails that grow and grow (and very thick too).
Can we get another guinea pig bonding video? ❤️
Yes will do! We are planning a girl bonding video actually this time.
