- In this vlog discover with me the temples in the middle of the city of Luxor in Egypt
We will visit together the temple of Amun as well as the temple of Karnak which is the largest temple in all of Egypt
The Temple of Luxor (Temple of Amun)
This temple is surprisingly located in the city center with cars passing by very quickly.
Moreover, we can see that certain parts (road side) are turning black because of automobile pollution and that’s a shame.
Opposite the entrance there is a huge alley lined with Sphinxes for almost 3 kilometers leading directly to the temple of Karnak
(Sphinx Avenue)
At the beginning of the aisle is a throne, which is part of the remains of a grand inauguration ceremony which took place on November 25, 2021
Because after more than 700 years of work, the avenue was finally open to the public
When you turn around in front of the entrance to the temple you realize that there is only one obelisk, if you are wondering where the second one went, well in fact it is the one that the vice -king of Egypt offered to France in 1830 and which sits in the middle of the Place de la Concorde in Paris (which seems grotesque when we find ourselves here in front of the empty location)
This temple is very beautiful, with Medinet Habu it is one of the 2 most beautiful temples that I visited here in Luxor
The Temple of Karnak
In ancient times this temple was called "Ipet Sout" which meant "the most revered of places", it was then considered to be the center of the world, where the god Amon found life and brought the universe out of chaos.
I was expecting a spectacular temple but I admit I was disappointed because this temple is very dilapidated.
Of course I am well aware that it is already a great chance to see it still standing despite its millennia of existence and I remain humble in the face of the immensity of the history but I expected a more spectacular temple
I think that to enjoy the visit you could perhaps (for once) take a guide because the explanations and details must be fascinating and above all to understand everything well.
The temple is huge it has an area of 2 square kilometers, making it one of the largest religious complexes in all of Egypt but the temple is still being restored, so there is quite a bit of closed access and many ruins such as the entire left part (when you arrive through the main entrance)
One thing is masterful, on the other hand it is the room of columns (the hypostyle room), there are 134 of them which stand 21 meters high and 3 meters in diameter!
(even if only half of the room was accessible to the public during my visit)
If you go there, look up and you will see the frescoes on the top of the columns which are painted with the original colors
If you don't have time and you have to make a choice, visit the Luxor temple
[Travel carried out only on foot and by public transport]
