  • In this vlog discover with me the tombs of the Valley of the Kings in Luxor
We will also visit the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, the temple of Medinat Habu and visit 3 underground tombs
The Theban Necropolis is the name of the site in the desert mountains on the west bank of the Nile just opposite Luxor (formerly called Thebes) and which includes the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the Valley of the Nobles and that of the artisans.
    - The Funerary Temple of Hatshepsut (Temple of Hatshepsut)
Hatshepsut was one of the only queen-pharaohs of ancient Egypt
The temple is very impressive with its endless staircase which will lead you to a row of large colossi which seem to guard the place.
    - The temple of Medinat Habu (Temple of Medinet Habu)
1450 years BC the god Amoun was worshiped here, then 300 years later Ramses III decided to make it his funerary temple
It is one of the largest and best preserved in the entire Necropolis.
    - The Valley of the Kings
At one point the Egyptians realized that burying their Pharaohs in large buildings, such as the pyramids, would attract looters and thieves so they decided to dig tombs in underground galleries in order to better accommodate them. hide
They are so well hidden that excavations continue today.
For the moment we have found around sixty and we discover more regularly
We don't really know why they chose this place, we always think that it is because it was isolated (at the time) and also that the small mountain which overlooks this valley (the Theban peak) strangely resembles a pyramid
The valley is classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO
It is important to know that all the tombs are not open at the same time, they close in turn for restoration and especially to protect them from tourist traffic (during the visit only 10 were accessible)
With the entrance ticket which is 600LE (18€) you have the right to visit 3 tombs
And some exceptional tombs (KV9, KV17 and KV62) cost extra
What I did for the tomb of Seti 1st (KV17), I paid the exorbitant price (for here) of 1800LE (54€)
Here are the 3 tombs that I chose to visit (included with the entrance ticket):
    - Tomb of Ramses III (KV11)
    - Tomb of Taousert and Sethnakht (KV14)
    - Tomb of Seti II (KV15)
    Tomb of Seti I (KV17)
This tomb is expensive because it is one of the largest and best preserved in the Valley of the Kings
I found a very detailed tour on TH-cam with all the explanations of the tomb of Seti I carried out by a Belgian passionate about Ancient Egypt: • VISITE VIRTUELLE de la...
    It's very interesting
    - Another optional tomb is apparently to be made, it is the tomb of Ramses V and Ramses VI (KV9) at the price of 180LE
On the other hand, everyone advises against paying the 500LE extra to see the tomb of Tutankhamon (KV62) because apart from the name and the legend of the cursed tomb it has no interest
[Travel carried out only on foot and by public transport]
