It has been so wonderful already. I hate full internet phones for kids, they suck them in and they want to do nothing else. Now we just get to stay connected and keep him safe. ❤️
You have every right to feel the way you feel regarding your AirBnB - that is your home and they violated your rules at your house. Im glad the smell dissipated and the new renters didn't have to smell that.... cigarette smoke is the worst!

There is a spray product that's called "Qzium". It will take the smell right out of there. It, in a way, doesn't have a smell itself.

Hello my happy people. I am a smoker and when I went to ak.I did not realize how cold moisture is and I got sick from smoking outside.Its a bad habit. It hard to lose your once in a lifetime vacation because of it ! Try vinegar in spray bottle. and bleach the drain. sorry about that it could have been worse!!

So sorry you are having to deal with that. I absolutely love that Luna can get up on the puzzle table and not play with the pieces. My girls would have them all over the place.
Luna was tempted to knock them off but did surprisingly well. Everett not so much, we were about 100 pieces away from finishing when he couldn't resist the urge to crumple it all up! Oh well, we will have to pull it out another time!
Luna always makes a showing in all of your videos, just love her. And of course the children and Alaska adventures and how could I forget Everett. 🎅🎄⛄

Why would they give you a bad review when they were obviously smoking or it wouldn’t smell. I understand cause I don’t like the smell either. I use an air purifier also for dust. You are right about clothing too, it holds the odor. I think you did the perfect thing by tackling it head on, and moving forward. Aww a couple of things, (1), i am so sorry you had to have that issue with your guest. They should have had more respect for your home that you allowed them to stay in. Try and put it down to experience, the good reviews will i'm sure outweigh the bad. (2) see you with hunter just melted my ❤ . He is the absolute image of you and such a well spoken young man. Im glad that cigarette smoke vanished because its the worst smell my neighbour used to smoke heavy and it went everywhere I decided to not go back their for 7 months because it was effecting my health as im asmatic

It really is a great and super simple phone. It comes ready to use out of the box. All you have to do is pull out the battery, reinstall it, and then charge it up. It was so easy and we have been so happy to have it this week. Hunter was able to text me when his bus had problems in the snow.

It truly was a learning experience and i have moved on knowing how I can better prepare for these situations. The phone has been so wonderful so far, I didn’t realize how much I would love getting texts from Hunter on the bus and letting him know when I am going to be late. You can also place paper towels on plates and pour white vinegar placing around the house.

I understand your frustration.
If you smoke outside and return inside, your clothes can hold that smell and even your hair. Dampness and cold outside tends to do this.
A smoker can be nose blind to all of that.
My former used to experience this and it would hit me square in the face. With respiratory illness in the family it was a struggle some days.
I hope the renters can understand it wasn't a direct attack. It just happens more often during rainy days and during the winter months.

When people act or react like that around me, I literally say a prayer of thanks that I no longer have those people in my life… and then make sure that happens.
Simply love and adore you and your family; your boys are all such a bright, shiny star and Mark setting up the table, even if it was the last thing he wanted to do, was so sweet and something my hubby would have done as well 💕

Thanks Stephanie. Yes, because we are super hosts we are able to respond to their comment. It will all be okay, so many people have loved staying here, a few upset people will not change that. I was just so worried about getting it all taken care of before the next guests, I am so grateful for the support of this community to help me through the rough times. I am loving getting text updates from Hunter as he is on the bus, I hadn't realized how bad I was wanting that connection, I just didn't want a full phone, so this was perfect for us!
It may have been said already, but you can also leave a review of the renter on airbnb. That is an unfortunate thing to deal with and you aren’t alone in feeling violated.

I'm an ex-smoker. You have to chain smoke or drive with the windows up while smoking for it to small up your rental without them smoking. They are lucky since most hotels will charge you around 250.00 for smoking in their rooms. They will charge your credit card. It is a shame that they would disrespect your house and then give you a bad review. Most smokers I know will respect your wishes and smoke outside or even in their car if it is too cold outside but you do have those that think they are privileged. I'm sorry that you had to go through that.

Too bad you cannot rate the renters! I am also very sensitive to cigarette smoke, perfume, and skunk and use air filters 24/7. I love to see Bennett baking. You and Mark are raising amazing boys.
We did rate them and probably too kind at a level 3. We left notes for future renters but the problem is people like that make new accounts after they get bad reviews. We just do our best to provide a nice home and it is devastating when people abuse that!
You can rate them, and we did….
It lets you rate tenants publicly and then they can put a response to “defend” themselves publicly. We put an honest review about the smell and the marijuana residue we found in the apartment. Hopefully it helps a future Airbnb host.

Can you use Fabreze? You can spray your curtains and other fabric items to help clear out the smell.
Someone reached out to me and said her husband smokes and to not use Fabreeze because it makes it worse. We are thankfully ok but I just hope it doesn't happen again!

What did you string to hold the Christmas cards? Fishing line? Picture wire? I have cats and would like to hang some ornaments without having a tree.
I used command hooks on the end and some twine. Fishing line would also work!

I make crinkle cookies for Easter... I use the Lemon, Lime and orange cake batters...they are kinda of refreshing.
I'm sorry you had to deal with those awful people. Why is it so hard for smoker's to just smoke outside? It just amazes me that people don't have compassion for other people and their things.
I mean yeah I get it. I USE to smoke, I smoked for over 37 yrs. and 6 yrs ago I just got tired of the whole thing, the making sure I had money for them, making sure I had enough for the week, finding ways to smoke at work, at home, on the go...for me it just got to be more of a pain than what it was worth. So I quit cold turkey (trust me I got on my own nerves there for about 3 weeks). But what I've noticed since I quit..I don't get Pnemonia & end up in ICU every year, I feel better and food OMG food tastes amazing! Yes I have put on about 80lbs. since I quit, but I have started fixing that issue~ I joined a gym! I have found a good workout helps clear my mind of the stressers in my life.
To help get the smoke smell out of your home, go get some Apple Cider, an orange and a couple of cinnamon sticks and slice the orange ~put it in the apple cider along with a couple cinnamon sticks and simmer on low all day that will help get rid of the smoke smell. You can also just use sliced lemon & oranges in water.
Oh yeah I wanted you to know when you get my card (I mailed it 2 days ago, my address is on the back of the card)

Can you charge more of a deposit then if they Don’t smoke you give it back?
cigarette , pot smoke and perfume are the worst ! my purifier has been on for 3 years 24/7 . you may want to leave it on always in the rental .
I agree perfume, cigarettes and I do not do pot. I smoked for over 50 years and I'm so I don't anymore . I'm sorry about your rental to someone who doesn't smoke it's terrible 🚭🚭🚭🚭

I hope your Airbnb rental clause includes a hefty fine for violating smoking rules. If you continue to do the Airbnb you may can install smoke detectors that would set off the loud alarm if someone does light up (if you haven’t installed already).
I’m OCD as far as cleaning and every 6 months I use boiling water with baking soda (or vinegar) and a little pinesol (lemon or pine scent) and I mop all my walls (yes I really do). It removes dust from ceiling fans and AC vents and leaves great smell. I also mop my carpets regularly with same solution (damp mop).
I hope this helps & you continue to have successful respectable renters.
Another side note if you don’t already do this., before each renter arrives say a prayer of blessing over your rental, your home/property and guests. God will certainly guide you and give you discernment.

Don't worry about there bad reviews they shouldn't have been smoking in your home I smoke but I don't smoke in my house as cold as it gets I go outside plus my home is a no smoking home as my granddaughter lives with me and she as a heart condition and it's not good for her

They may not have smoked in the apartment but it's not a sin to ask if the place reeks of smoke. My youngest has asthma and smoke is a #1 trigger so i would be concerned and ask too. There was no need to leave you a bad review.

Lauren don’t be upset about the renters. They was just made they got caught smoking in there. Where was that type of phone at when my kids was growing up. When they got there phones I had all passwords and the minute they changed then no phone for 2 weeks. I love Everett excitement when he see the elf has moved some place else.

Honestly it sounds like they were definitely smoking in the apartment. I'm a smoker and I have a designated closet for my outerwear for smoking and I wash my hands. I keep odoban in my closet. My house doesn't smell like smoke. I've asked visitors to be sure. That's so disrespectful of a visitor in your home. I feel the same about cellphones as you. My oldest got a flip phone at 13 because of a long bus ride. I did random weekly phone checks because of the internet access. The phone you guys got would have been a life saver!

If a person smokes heavily the smell of stale smoke sticks to their clothes and hair and this will transfer onto your soft furnishings. Smokers don't realise how strong this smell is. I stopped smoking many years ago and now cannot bear the smell of stale smoke. You should maybe specify non smoking guests only are welcome
I agree, they go nose blind to their own smell. Thankfully it all got taken care of and we have had wonderful guests since then. We are just more clear about our smoking policy.
