Would you recommend the Valiant or the Parkzone Sport Cub as a second plane flying off of grass?

    • @DoughDaddy1
      @DoughDaddy1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Truth Still Matters (From the Heart of a Catholic) valiant if your unsure, it has SAFE which will help you in a bind. Also plenty of reviewers elsewhere on TH-cam are flying on regular grass as well as many other surfaces.

I started flying RC on Kadet Jr with 25 size Oss glowmotor. Aeroplane has balsa construction and you had to put monocote on it's surface. It was 3 channel aeroplane, rudder, elevator, engine throttle but I modifed it by adding channel to move wing surfaces. It used those old 9g servos.
I think beginner series should include:
    - Tow to build balsa planes.
    - Monocoating.
    - Trimming the aroplane.
    - How to ajust engine.
    - How to start engine / break in new engine.
    - How to balance aeroplane.
    - How to be carefull with nitro fuel (methanol)
    -

Longtime subscriber here.... A beginner gas series would be great. I have flown heli's and now quads/camera platforms for quite a while and I am just getting into fixed wings. I have a couple of electrics I am building but my long-term goal is a gas powered model, possibly a warbird. My local clubs' members praise the economy and sound of the gas engined models. Glow is a great way to fly also and has proven itself over time, but the residue of the flow fuel and cost was the reason I quit glow powered heli's back in the 90's. Glad to see gas and electrics have made such a positive impact on the hobby over the years. A beginners series covering all things gas on mulitple models would be appreciated! Keep up the great work! :)

Beginners Series on glow engines, hell yes please!!
I'd love to see info on:
    * The differences in installs from electric - fuel tank, electrical power, props etc
    * Tuning the engine
    * Needed accessories like glow igniters, flight boxes, control panels, starters etc
    * What the different types of fuel are and their mixtures
    * How to fly your glow plane at the field - refuelling, what are glow pilots checking for when gripping the tail with their legs and powering to full throttle?, how to avoid dead sticks, differences in flight characteristics between similar models (WOT4 electric vs WOT4 glow for example, as they're both the exact same balsa air-frame)
    * How to clean after flights and how to store aircraft
I'm sure you guys have a load of great ideas already, I can't wait to watch. More ideas for series maybe EDF jets, building with balsa, aerobatics, maybe intermediate/advanced series too?
Keep up the amazing work guys!

Please do a gas/glow beginner series. I'm addicted to electric flight, but I see all these beautiful gas planes for sale third party in my area for a very good price, and I hate to pass them up because I'm afraid to get into it.

    • @sparrowlt
      @sparrowlt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They definitily should do a beginner glow/gas series.. but if they do i hope they introduce also the misery that it is..
nasty, smelly, dirty , oil everywhere, smoke, noise, and motors that worked perfectly yesterday, today wont start and tomorrow will for no reason.. (noise, smell and smoke are not an issue in the field..but you must break-in and run new motors before installing in the plane and thats a process that takes time and some can only do it at home, wich is where the noise/smell/smoke problems comes on)
and thats what i see in our field..
Dont get me wrong..im not hating gas/glow and im not trying to shit on it or scare people away.. but its a way more complex part of the hobby than many electric folks think

Great video guys. I had this plane for 6 months and loved it. I was flying it in Spokane Washington, and in Safe mode with full flaps it locked up, and turned sharply right into a 300 foot tree top. I'm still sad! Thanks for the great video!

I've actually been thinking about trying gas/glow planes but feel I lack alot of knowledge so in case you ever read this my suggestions for some topics for episodes would be:
*How to set up a brand new plane with all the tubes, wires, battery, external BEC to get it working and what to move to get the CG correct (is the tank directly on the CG so there's no impact when it depletes?)
*How to set up a brand new engine so it runs perfectly
*How to determine engine size for a particular airplane
*How to choose the correct prop size depending on engine and wanted behaviour in flight
*Typical problems with the engines, how to spot them and how to fix them.
*Setting up a good field box and what should be in it. Don't know if it's called that in english but you know, the kit with the starter, fuel, pump and so on :)
*Perhaps an episode where you collect mistakes people familiar with gas/glow have made so we can learn from them, kind of a "Do's and don'ts".
Well that's what I could come up with from the top of my head. Hope it helps and thanks for helping me get into rc flight in the first place :D

I really miss flying my long gone Horizon Ultra Stick .60 with a Saito .82 4 stroke. The quad flap / spoiler rons made that airplane a true blast to fly. I miss coming in with almost vertical dive with spoilers up and full flaps, and the airplane just slowed to an almost crawl in the descent; bring to level attitude and lower spoilers and had an easily landing bird. A beginner gas/ 4 stroke series would be fun to watch ....an might even get the old juices flowing from us old timers!!!!!

I loved flying my home built Sig Senior converted to a tail dragger by stretching the nose while it was built. Had a SuperTigre .40 engine that ran really nice. Love you guys and would like to see some reviews of gas or glow along with the electrics!

Great Video on the Valiant.....I'm going to have to buy one. It reminds me of the first RC plane I bought to learn to fly. It was the RCM Basic Trainer. A three channel taildragger and a .19 cc engine. I would love to see a beginner or regular series on "gas models". The one I am most partial to is the .29 -.40 cc Ugly Stik. I still think it is the best four channel stunt plane ever designed and flown. I missed out on the purchase of a the HobbyKing version with the fake gas engine. My biggest regret. BTW....you young men got this 70+ old guy interested in RC Airplanes again. I started again when your flite test videos first hit TH-cam....Thank you.

Sure beginner gas and glow would be great.
I'm just getting into them myself. I got a Starfire 40 with a k@b 60, also an old Sig Citabria with a Super Tigre 60, both at auction $40 a piece last year, went through them and got them flying this season. It was alot of new stuff to learn coming from electrics and never having flown nitro before.

Gotta love the Valiant. It makes a pretty spiffy trainer as well. Been flying one all summer and I love mine.
As to the wheels, a full flap takeoff can work in longer grass, just give it full throttle and flaps, yank it up then immediately dump the nose to get it flying. Or get a set of Timber wheels and the timber axles (in the LG set) and they bolt on.
And last but not least, don't forget the new 10cc version. gas, glow or 4S/5S electric and not a monster like the 2.7m span 30cc Valiant.

gear and the battery, detached from the plane, and of course, I lost control. Then I bought a second one, because I thought it was worth it, and after three weeks of searching, we found it, I think the Valiant us a lot of fun. Thanks for your video.

I love that plane too. I do have a frustrating problem that doesn't seem isolated because I've replaces the fuselage at least 4 times now. The glue holding the motor bracket to the foam is either to weak or not enough has been applied because the entire part pulls out of the plane in flight. HH has been good and sent me a replacement but I'd like to see better quality control.

I'd love to see you guys do a gas series, I grew up flying them with my dad still have his Kraft Radio and a Saito FA-65 four stroke engine I plan on building a plan for someday.

Thanks for this review much appreciated. A gassers 101 would be great just to learn what is involved before making the jump.

Gas/Nitro episodes would be great! Some of my favorites include:
Slow Flier: Great Planes Slow Poke and the Lazy Bee
Sport Aerobatic: Super Stick and Sig Four Star
    Trainer: Sig Kadet
FT electric power pod foam board versions of these models would be fantastic!

Great video, if possible please do one on the E-flite Cirrus. Thanks

i bought a cirrus- not a bad looker, the lights are great, the wing connectors are a awesome setup(and it fits in the trunk of my mustang with flight box and all) but the valiant flies a lot better as far as aerobatics...both slow down great with the flaps, just the cirrus borders on boring to fly in my opinion- the valiant really is a sweet flying plane, fast/slow, everything in between, zero bad habits...

In your video, you say that you will provide a link below to show how you did the setup on this plane. I do not see the link.

It's funny that you bring up gas and glow models when y'all came out with the simple scout I immediately downloaded the plans and blew them up to 134% and I'm currently building it out of coroplast and will be putting an o.s. la .46 into it.
