E-Flite Valiant: Review & Flight - AMAZING even in a STORM!

- I took a break from flying for a few months and needed something new to get re-inspired and progress my skills. The 1.3m E-Flite Valiant with SAFE Select is aimed at intermediate flyers I've been flying for a year and a half, and it's been a great model for me! And it has flaps! This is probably my new favorite plane. In this video, I share an overview of the features and take it out (in a storm!) to show you how well it flies.

Confession! Man my first RC back when I was young...was a cub cadet, rudder and elivator only, no ailerons... Anyway I built it on a desk that had a 1/8 inch lip on the edges.... Needless to say I had too much Didihedral... When I showed up at the flying field!! Well I was embarrassed to say the least!! Anyway this old flyer took out a saw , cut the wing in half at the Middle. Eyeballed the right Didihedral and epoxied and ducked taped her back together.. my First lesson in paying attention to detail.... Bought a new table and made sure that $"&-- was level after that!! That's how I learned to fly RC... I got busy with life and haven't flown in many years!!! But I really want to get back into it!!!

I've just started my RC journey with planes. You're a breath of fresh air with your enthusiasm and reviews. I'm going to be adventurous and go old school trainer with a Durafly Ugly Stik V2. I just finished the build and I am waiting for the rest of my equipment. I've also ordered the sim trainer you reviewed.

The more reviews I see of the Valiant, the more apparent that it’s the ideal next plane for me. My trainer plane is a tail dragger that also likes a long runway when landing, so if that’s the worst traits of the Valiant it will not be an issue. Its acrobatic ability with a 3S battery is what makes it stand out, & the long flight time is a bonus.
PS. Your 2nd landing was perfection!

I have a plane just like that, I just need to put it together and fly. I really like your video, I been into R/C helicopters, I got a brand new Blade 230s v2 still in the box, the hobby shop guy hovered it, and that's it. Both models are in my hobby room waiting for me to get out and fly. Thanks for the great video.

My FAVORITE plane! Extremely FUN! I have this plane doing some amazing tricks, spins, loops, inverse, barrel rolls, you name it - knife edge is fun and with a single snap - back into safe and you can relax :)
When you get bored yank out that receiver and Y cables and put in a regular receiver and independent servo leads to the ailerons. Then you can start playing with crow flaps. A lot of fun. You can dive to the ground with crow flap up and roll out really short on landing.
Looks like a phenomenal plane! Especially for the price. +1000 pts for both landings. As a glider pilot, I've had many-a long walk when the plane just didn't wanna come down! No go-rounds for gliders so sometimes you just gotta walk :)

IT IS AN AWESOME PLANE!! I LOVE my Valiant with the night flying conversions I did to it.
With all your simulator time spent, I was a little worried about your first landing and the 30' high flare leading to the moderate slap-down on the runway. However, your simulator time was totally obvious on your next landing because it was SO BUTTERY that I felt the need to go make some toast! Probably the sweetest landing you have ever had!! I am not even sure that any of my own videos have landings that smooth! KUDOS! I can't wait to see what you put out there in 2020!!

As you have no doubt discovered by now, bigger really does fly better.
I gotta tell you, though, nothing compares with the feeling of satisfaction you'll get from flying something you built yourself.
Building is an essential part of model aviation.

check if the transmitter support "crow" mixing.
Moving both the ailerons up with the flaps down both acts as a "airbrake"
It also changes how the model stalls ; the wing center will stall first resulting in the "nose down" stall that is easy to control.
Second depends a bit on the flap design ; have the flaps move with the ailerons will result in a more responsive plane.
Also check if the ailerons move more up then down to reduce "adverse yaw" and that will make the rolls more axial.
Check if the motor "trust line" is correct a model that start to climb when applying throttle needs the motor aimed down a few degrees; its a simple as adding a few washers between the motor mount and firewall.
The same goes for right trust; if the model pulls to the left on applying throttle the motor needs to be aimed right a little.
The CG check; climb a bit high and cut the motor.
While gliding start a 45 degree dive and once the model is pointing down 45 degrees move the elevator back to neutral.
When the cg is right the model will maintain the same angle just will go faster.
If the model is pulling out of the dive by itself its nose heavy and if it changes into a steeper dive its tail heavy.
Change the cg until the model shows the correct result ; you will have to change elevator trim each time.
Don't assume that because its a ARF its correct and change it to suit your taste.
Not having to fight these things in flight makes precision aerobatics a lot easier.
Also disable any stabilization while testing since that will mask any imperfection.
When tuning a pusher plane the trust angles are reversed ;)
You can do crow on the Valiant, but the receiver needs replacing or reprogramming. Stock it has the ailerons on a single channel.
I've got my Valiant setup for no stabilization but full camber & crow mixing plus full span ailerons (dual channel ailerons and dual channel flaps required). Lots of fun, and if you set the ESC brake it will thermal and just floats with a 1/8" or so of camber dialed in.

WoW! A perfect 10 that landing!!!! An excellent video too. I've been flying for about 8 years, on and off, but almost exclusively gliders and mostly scratch built by me. The Valiant is so well priced, but I really want something for a full on novice as I want to get my bro to have a go once he and his lady can safely un-isolate, (he has been asthmatic all his life). He has only flown drones up to now.
It's lovely to see a lady being into RC. You should try FPV freestyle/racing drone, the experience is highly addictive.
