Heck yeah for ‘71! Of course I have many of these and it was my impulsive favorite year! I need more Townes in my collection. I have live at the old quarter and love it but need more. All Of these would have made me list. Great stuff - thanks Randy! You’re entered!
I didn't realize that I had picked the same year as you until I went back to look at your video. Most of my Townes is on CD but I do have four of his albums on vinyl now. I have Live at the Old Quarter on CD. Fine album. Thanks for providing the contest.
Hi Randy!!! Well done and great entry to Alex's contest..... B.B. Cook, that was a fun one! What an awesome year in music, for any music lover the early 70's are all great choices and you have the records to prove it. Two Alice Cooper releases, McCartney, Uriah Heep x2, Zeppelin and the Stones. cheers and be well
Thanks Cristian. I actually had another stack of records I forgot with Ten Years After, T-Rex and others, so it was really a great year. B.B. Cook, the next great blues artist! We got a foot of snow here and have kind of been hibernating. Hope all is well with you.
A great year Randy and all great picks there. No idea what my favourite year would be but 1971 would be high on the list. For my 1971 list I'd add Caravan's 'In the Land of Grey and Pink', Pink Floyd's 'Meddle' and Colin Blunstone's 'One Year' Cheers dale
Hi Randy, You said fantastic 13 times, but I held myself back from playing the drinking game. It turns out that 1971 is a fantastic (!) year. You have many notable and classic records from that year. I especially love that you showed the Leonard Cohen album 🙂I think you are one of the few to mention Cohen. Maybe no one else did!
wow, that really was an incredible year. For some reason I thought Tupelo Honey and Sticky Fingers came out in 1969....they're both later than I thought. Great seeing the James Bond record. Good luck in the contest!
I actually found a stack I pulled that had Ten Years After, T-Rex, Elton John and others and forgot. 1971 was amazing. Let It Bleed was the Stones album from 1969. I'm trying to get most of the Bond records. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That's got to be a reissue of Surf's Up, looks too clean and shiny...its so rare that I see a vintage copy without the seemingly ubiquitous ringwear that it looks a bit jarring without it lol. You'll have to pull many of these out again when you get to your 1971 video - a great year in. music for sure!
My Surf's Up copy is an Analogue Productions reissue and I think that one is getting hard to find without being expensive. I even forgot another stack of records that I had pulled which included Elton John, T-Rex, Ten Years After and Crazy Horse among others.
Great records. You're still going to do a 1969 and 1970 video I hope. I love Muswell Hillbillies, that's one of my favorite Kinks albums. Who's Next, Townes, Blue, Aqualung...1971 was a great year for music.
Thanks. I have 1969 almost ready. Trying to figure out if I should do some of the tags or jump back into my series. I couldn't believe all the great music that came out in 1971 and I even forgot a pile of records I pulled. Take care.
I'm still after all these years discovering some hidden gems from this massive musical year!!! I would definitely add Crazy Horse's and Grease Band's debuts and "Church of Anthrax" by John Cale & Terry Riley
I had actually pulled the Crazy Horse album and it was with a stack of records that I forgot to use. I don't think that I am familiar with the John Cale & Terry Riley record. Thanks for the suggestion.
1971 was a great year, but I think the first part of the 70's decade had the best music/albums, but since I grew up during that time and really started paying attention to music then, that fact might have something to do with that. All of those were great albums. Love that B.B. King album, one of his best. Over the past few years, I think Salisbury has suddenly become a contender for the best Uriah Heep album. For years, I thought the best one was The Magician's Birthday, but now I'm beginning to wonder after getting more familiar with Salisbury. Ram is great and definitely one of McCartney's best and the debut John Prine album is a very tough one to surpass, he really set the bar high for himself starting with that album. Who's Next is my 2nd favorite album from The who with Quadrophenia coming first (most of the time anyway). Aqualung is also amazing (or should I say fantastic), just so many great albums in 1971.
I probably need to listen to Salisbury more as well as I would probably pick Demons and Wizards but they have so many classic albums. Prine's debut is indeed a high bar but it's really hard for me to pick a favorite as I love so many. It's really difficult to chose between those two Who albums. I lean towards Who's Next but they are both near the top of my favorite albums. I really love the Steven Wilson remix of Aqualung and it is "fantastic." Thanks for watching.
Of course, this is an awesome year. How cool to have been about 17 in 1971. I’m glad you put “Surf’s Up” on here. A lot of people dismiss that album. James Bond! “Killer” is Alice Cooper best album. Just recently picked up that Moody Blues. As a grade schooler I can remember hearing all those Carole King albums on AM radio in the car all the time. Led Zeppelin IV HAS to be here. RAM might be a good album but the cover sucks. “Who’s Next “ also has to be here. Aqualung and LA Woman👍. No Sticky Fingers on vinyl? Come on Randy🤦🏻♂️ lol. Great entry!
I agree on Killer for Alice Cooper and the Surf's Up album has grown on my over the last couple of years. That Mood Blues album is pretty new for me as well. Who's Next and Led Zeppelin IV are two of the most important rock albums and my favorites from each band. I bought The Stones vinyl box set that went up to Let It Bleed, so I am working on it. There was another pile of records I pulled that I forgot which included Ten Years After, Elton John, T-Rex and others which makes 1971 even more amazing. Thanks for watching.
Great picks,Randy..Alice Cooper is an essential album.. Carole King..great choice...On a personal level, rather than picking best,or greatest ..The Rolling Stones,no doubt Sticky Fingers was a fantastic album..but..Brian was gone / the magic was gone...I know/life goes on..but the Stones were never the same/anyways ..my picks 2 Debut albums. Carly Simon & Crazy Horse Doors/LA Woman Nick Drake Bryter Later/(my favorite N.D. album) Peter Hammill/debut solo album by the Singer for Van der graaf generator Stephen Stills II Rascals/Peaceful World Le Orme/Collage..( Italian Prog Rock..bienissimo.)
I actually had the Crazy Horse album pulled but I forgot a pile of records which makes 1971 even better. I have Nick Drake's two other albums but have not picked up Bryter Later up as of yet. You have some interesting other picks. Cheers.
Weirdly, I typed a reply and it didn't get posted. I clicked comment and watched it disappear! You said fantastic 13 times. I said something like 1971 is fantastic (!). I opted not to take part in the drinking game and I am sure glad you showed Leonard Cohen! My original comment might have been better...
I misspoke and called B.B. King B.B. Cook and there is a new drinking game. Take a drink every time I say fantastic!
Great stuff. Sticky Fingers and Tupelo Honey alone make this a great year!
I'm pretty much in agreement with you that 1971 is the greatest year in music. You hit most, if not all, of the key albums. Great entry Randy.
Thanks Rich. I actually had another stack of records that I forgot that included T-Rex, Don McLean and Ten Years After among others.
Heck yeah for ‘71! Of course I have many of these and it was my impulsive favorite year! I need more Townes in my collection. I have live at the old quarter and love it but need more. All

It was a "Killer" year.😃 Cahoots is my favorite album by The Band.
I knew that Cahoots was a favorite of yours. Also a great Alice Cooper album. Thanks for watching.

71 was an epic year! Nice showing!
I had another stack from 1971 that I forgot to include. It was a great year.

I do need to check out that Colin Blunstone album. I also forgot another stack of records from 1971 that I had pulled. It was an unbelievable year.
Hey Randy, great year indeed! I agree, 'Look at Yourself' is the better album. Cheers!
This was a wild exercise in that I had another batch of records that I forgot to use like Ten Years After and T-Rex. It was quite a year for music.

Gee, I guess this didn't disappear after all!
Oh man, I would love to see a drunk Brian!
@AisForAliceBisForBob It rarely happens 🙃 My limit is usually 2 drinks 🍸 🙃

cant argue with ya regarding Who’s Next. I just picked up that new(er) issue of that last summer to replace the copy I had.
Who's Next is a favorite and one of my all-time picks. I did pick up the new(er) reissue of Quadrophenia.
I'm still after all these years discovering some hidden gems from this massive musical year!!! I would definitely add Crazy Horse's and Grease Band's debuts and "Church of Anthrax" by John Cale & Terry Riley

We both picked 1971! You missed one that i had "Madman across the water" by elton john!

Weirdly your other comment is there as well. At least it will help in how many comments I get.
@RandyforRoyals Happy to help! 🙂
