@@raphkoster4490 We all hope Raph you and the team are taking a hard look on the graphics/Style. I understand to make the game more realistic it takes longer time and are harder to accomplish but atleast think it through :) I am not alone in wanting a moderns Star Wars Galaxies, but the graphics atm feels like the games audience are young kids, Fortnite generation :)
@@raphkoster4490same graphics as galaxies too. Please for the love of god move away from Fortnite character design. Unless your target audience is gen z and alpha mobile players, I can’t see this taking off.
Likewise - I want to know they aren't going to make the same mistakes with grieving as Ultima. At the end of his latest video on Steam Raph Koster talks about the next video being about that
@@napyet Ultima was bad. As a craftsman you couldn't go mining ore with a donkey without getting killed, but in Trammel it was still boring... SWG was perfect. You didn't have to do PvP, but you could jump right in if you attacked someone who was in PvP
That's a shame. I think the reality is it needs to appeal to a broad audience - and probably a younger one than most Galaxies players - hence the focus on a more cartoony style
@@napyet I feel like that's the market that comes and goes to the next new game 2 months later. They have the attention span of a nat. SWG had a young'ish mature audience. Almost everyone I knew who played it was in their 20-30's. Here it is, 20 years later and we're still talking about it cause it was an amazing game. With game market today, I don't think there will ever be a game like it.
Please, don't fall for this. Don't follow the trend, don't do false advertising. No, SWG II is not coming, and it never will. It was a lightning in a bottle, and we have to accept it the way it was/is. No other company will ever risk developing a game as complex and niche as SWG, it's just not viable in any way. No disregards towards the devs of this game, but this looks and feels absolutely nothing like SWG, so please: don't do this.
Thanks for turning my attention on this, been hearing the rumors for awhile now. I'll definitely be following this, like others are saying I'm not a huge fan of the art style but that's not the interesting thing about the game. Honestly I think they may be focusing on some of the wrong things with the insanely interactive environments; not once when I was playing SWG did I care about terraforming the land or how seasons could have influenced plant life... simply unnecessary if you ask me. I'm more keen on the economy and market system working well, the crafting systems being deep, complex, and rewarding, and combat to be at all better than SWG. A more modern engine that runs and looks nice. Spaceflight and spaceships that you can walk around on, etc. That's all I want, really. Signed up for access and to watch this game develop.
It will be interesting to see how much of that is in there. I wonder if multiperson ships will be in from launch because that always seemed like a complicated hurdle to jump! Terraforming isn't a big priority for me either - it's more the ability to craft your own home I'd be interested in - but it looks like those are pre-build from the footage so far.
Straight up, that art style is a total and complete misread of what is needed to make a spiritual successor to SWG. The mechanics and systems could be amazing. But that art is hideous.
There are some ideas that I love. Terraforming, allowing for a wide range of playstyles, trees that grow, mobs that multiply if left unchecked, etc... all sound potentially great. The physics and the graphics of this game do look dated. However, .. I WANT to love this new game. I really do. As such, I will try it. And I will try to have fun.
So little is known yet - I think it's good to keep an open mind. This is the downside to developers showing games early, it relies upon people knowing a bit about how games develop and what pre-alpha actually means.
I don't necessarily dislike the No Man's Sky style of graphics but it does look way cheaper compared to NMS. What does bother me is the blatant bad performance. They even have grass render distance incredibly low in these clips which is often one of the fps killers and it still seems to run pretty bad. It may be early but typically if a game looks like it runs bad early it isn't something they address before release and this is especially common in MMOs. Terrain sculpting definitely doesn't work in MMOs and it'll do nothing but make a mess and impact the fps even further. Overall not really a game on my watchlist. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see anything like SWG, but maybe that's for the best. For me the only MMO to hold a special place in my heart since SWG was Archeage because it was a true hybrid between more moderm MMOs and SWG just with an unfortunate business model. Regardless AA2 and Corepunk are the only MMOs on my radar right now.
I am all for it(given a complete graphical style change as its currently looks like fortnight and I wont touch it), so long as they fix some of the serious issues galaxies had, for example over abundance of resources leading to sellers needing to sell capped or near capped gear or sell nothing, if we add decay to everything including resources then the best stuff would at least run out at some point resetting the bar. Obviously improve combat as you cannot argue the SWG is not dated, a bit more guidance and coherence of story for new players, along with better combat I want to see better boss mechanics/fights. We gave a lot of passes because SWG is not only star wars but based in the original trilogy (mostly) so this new game will have a higher bar to meet to pull us in, for example I wont want to play this game to live out my han solo smuggling fantasy or to work my way towards becoming a jedi, or just to go to Jabbas palace etc etc etc, we have no pre-existing cares about this game so it has to be good enough that we get those feelings shortly after release
Doesn’t look that appealing, but as long as the gameplay is there then I’ll give it a shot. We really do need a new SWG, but keep Sony away from it if it ever does materialize.
One thing I keep thinking is - what would have happened to Galaxies if they kept the Star Wars licence? I think it would still be running to this day (in an official capacity I mean). If Ultima is still going there's no reason Galaxies wouldn't be.
I agree that it isn't the star wars IP that made people play SWG. You could mod out all SW content, replace it with generic names and "galactic soldier" armor instead of storm trooper armor, and people would still play it.
Anyone remember when Smedley said H1Z1 would appeal to SWG vets? 🤣 I'm getting the same feeling here although to be fair it sounds like a lot of the game mechanics will be more on point. Just from what I've seen and heard so far this game isn't grabbing me.
God i wish they change the direction of the graphics/style and make it more realistic. I am kinda sick of the caroonish wow/wildstar/no man sky style :) Make Star Wars Galaxies, but with a modern touch :D
Title is very misleading, i've been following the project for a while. Raph Koster is a large part of it. He's taking influence from SWG in various forms. But it wont be anywhere near what SWG was, and is most definitely not SWG "2"
I h8 this style of art ngl i just dont understand the appeal Also ye i believe it when i see it, i can already see trolls creating inappropriate things + what would stop a group rolling through your camp and destroying the very ground itself
I'm not getting SWG vibes out of this game. I'm not a fan of the cartoon look. However, there are not many MMOS on the horizon, so I'll just keep it on the list, but i'm not really excited or keeping my hopes up that this game will succeed to SWG levels.
I really enjoyed SWG back in the day, anything that continues that kind of game is welcome to move the gaming industry and player satisfaction forward. However, I don't like where this game is headed. All of the design looks great, EXCEPT the toddler art style that completely ruins any interest in it for me.
I was the reason they changed the combat system in SWG. Anyone who played on the Valcyn server for an extended amount of time may have encountered a particularly invincible trandoshan Teras Kasi Master 😛
Nothing about this is making me think about SWG...
looks like a mobile game
I'm not getting any SWG vibes.
me either, looks like another early access crap steam game, and i love SWG played for years even after the NGE

I also find the graphics quite inappropriate, but for me it is more important that PvP is optional like in SWG and that crafting is unique and complex
