A fantastic interview my friend. Thank you for doing this. I'd like to share something, if I may. I'm 53 years old...I love making Music and playing guitar. Music has always got me through a lot of things in my life. Three years ago (6/16/20)...my father passed away from a long battle with cancer. I'm an only child. And because of my job, it was difficult for me to get away and help my mother during that time. But, when that horrible day came, my world collapsed. The strongest, most supportive man that I had known, was gone. For the next two weeks, as I was getting my day started...I listened to "Eagles Fly" & "Give To Live" back to back, every morning. I would be by myself for about half an hour & cry. But these songs (that I have loved since I was a teenager)...got me through that dark period in my life. So thank you for showing, how down to earth Sammy, is. God bless you and your family sir. 🙏 🤘🎸🎶🎵

For sure, Bro. I was into Sammy going back to the Montrose days. Wore out my vinyl copy of Paper Money, but I've still got it. Loved his solo material, and I really thought he raised Van Halen up to much higher heights. Way back I got to see him play a county fair when "Red" was out, over in Petaluma. I was a security guard working backstage passes. (The fair board was nervous the promoter wouldn't provide good security, so they hired the company I was working for. In retaliation the promoter hired his own including local members of the HA. Worked alongside the tallest, muscular biker I'd ever met.). Also got the chance to see him play the Cow Palace. If memory still serves, (don't bet on it), about the same time I saw Billy Squier there and also saw Saga there. Those were really good days....

Been a Sammy fan since his solo career back to Red and TransAm songs, been going to Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas since 1995, Seen Sam in Cabo Wabo in 1996 with less than 120 people in that huge place. ..He Just got the Wabos together and rehearsing unannounced... to start touring for the Marching to Mars record. Was high fiving with the whole band Vic, Mona, David and Sammy. Then starting seeing Sam at Lake Tahoe when he 1st opened Cantina there and doing shows for the opening and the anniversary shows after. Met his son Aaron in Cantina, he waited on us in the restaurant, Aaron was managing the Cantina. Then we become friends, the point is Hagar's are great people. So many great stories and memories. Then there's Kenny Aronoff, man is a phenomenal drummer, seen him with Chickenfoot and always liked his drumming with John Mellenncamp, clear back to John's beginning. I am also old enough and wise enough to understand that if there is NOBODY watching to make sure a club or restaurant is profitable... it is not profitable. Let's grow up and be real. Oh I understand how being real is with Sammy... I actually met him way back in 1983... he tossed me off the stage at Wings arena in Kzoo MI. Best moment of my life to be honest. Don't tell my sons they think they live in that space... lol. anyhow I love Sammy and have always loved his music. I would consider it a treat if I could ever jam with him... I play drums Sammy... if you see any moment that your guy cannot make the gig - just send the jet for me. :)

Sammy’s realization that he had vision that others didn’t really helped him, even though he got fired for it (more than once). His intellect, intuition, communication skills, charisma and extraordinary talent really set him apart from other band members, in my opinion, even from Eddie. He really became the leader of Van Halen. His contributions were so significant that VH really never recovered after he left. Had there been no Sammy, would VH have achieved as much? Personally, I don’t think so. Sammy, Eddie, Mike and Al were once in a lifetime magic, but Sammy is who I remember.

The bios that you, Sammy, and Luke wrote should be mandatory reading for anyone who grew up listening to music from the 70’s on. Absolutely an honour to get a glimpse behind the curtain. Seeing you with Sammy always makes me smile. 5150 changed my life and Lonesome Jubilee wasn’t far behind. Van Hagar will always be my number one, but honestly - everything you did with JCM was VERY close behind. Those were my formative years and nothing could ever touch me the way those albums did and still do. I don’t know that you’ll read this two weeks later, but knowing what a maniac workaholic you are, I would not be surprised. Thank you. Thank you! THANK YOU!!!! (How’s that for being a sycophantic little shit??😬) Cheers from a kid who grew up in the middle of nowhere Northwestern Ontario who never dreamed he’d get the chance to maybe have a comment read by one of his idols.

Someday I will go through my CD, cassette and vinyl collections to count how many times Kenny's name shows up in the liner notes. What a fixture in the music world. Sammy's self-realization segment at the end hit home. I've been his fan since childhood and when he talks about providing help and inspiration and relief, that was "Can't Get Loose" off of Standing Hampton for me. I played that song on repeat back when "repeat" was guessing how long to hold the "Rewind" button down...

Thank you for this video and next time you see Sam, shake his hand for me and thank him for being such an amazing guy. Hopefully I get to do that myself someday.

@@KennyAronoffOfficial There's this great story Shep tells about when Sammy was trying to break into the business and opening for Alice Cooper and there was an outdoor show in FL that got cancelled due to a hurricane and the opening acts didn't get guarenteed money is what I think he said. Somehow Alice's band got into donating funds to Sammy and his band so they could stay in a hotel that night. Shep told the story like it was his idea to take up the collection.

I really don’t understand Mike Anthony. He’s gone from playing on Mean Street and I’m The One to playing hack tunes like I Can’t Drive 55 and Heavy Metal. How can he do that? Cognitive dissonance is a potentially harmful condition. 😁 Peace! 🤘🏻
