    I am in the process of starting up an nonprofit. I have my board of directors in place. They are 100% behind the ideal of what I am wanting to do. In all my research in the community the ones I have spoke to about what I am wanting to do are excited to help and what to get behind me in my goals. I really hope I am on the right track. Your videos are helping me in this process. How do I take that excitement and turn that into donations.

      Hey Terry, congrats on your progress so far! I say - storytelling! Collect as many inspiring stories as you can from the very beginning. Sharing stories paired with requesting support is effective.

    Great tips - the output vs outcome seems to escape a lot of people, especially funds and grants that seem obsessed with you hitting numbers in 6 - 12 months rather than effective, sustainable change.

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally! In people's defense, output vs. outcome is a hard thing to grasp and articulate. It can be a challenge finding a way to quantify and describe things like how your program made someone happier, etc.!

      @@AmberMelanieSmith not long really. We needed to register first as organisation and later as non for profit. The big issue as always is funds, although we have managed to get about 8,000 we have spent them buying food for the hampers. Currently working on some activities that allow us to get cash flow to make some decisions. I find your tips very handy

      Hi Amber I am Yagoub Saleh Now I live in New City Manhattan . originally I am from Sudan (AFRICA). long time ago I lived with my badwian famjly. As you know we as nomads moving from south to the north of Kordufan region in the time of rain and return back to the south with our herds of cows. By God grace my father sent me to school, because he worked as apolice man in town. I went on education field and graduated from college. my life changed from nomadic to the life of towns and civilization. But I still remember the hardship and difficult life during those days when I was achid. I remered our mothers bring water from far places and use hand ginders to grind sorghum and cook it for us to eat. Many people died of deseases cause of no hospital near them for those reasons I am thiking of founding an organization to heople to be rehabilitated in settleements and provide them with healthy water and build for them health centers for them and their berds. Also we should mprove of cattle and sheep breeds, to raise their life to the best.

      My name is Yagoub Saleh I live In New York. Originally I came from Sudan, I lived a nomadic life in Kordufan region with my parent. When I was there I noticed many things that can help the bedouin life be better.
      1- Changing the nomadic lifestyle, and encouraging them to settle.
      2- Training them to establish and manage pastoral reserves.
      3- Developing grazing and pasture systems and improving the offspring of animals.
      4- Spreading environmental awareness and guiding them towards optimal methods of independence of environmental resources.
      5- Preventing overgrazing and maintaining vegetation to prevent desertification.
      6- Providing basic services for them and for their support. Such as: health services, electricity services, clean drinking water for them and others.
      7- Building educational institutions in their gathering places for education and preparing them for the future.
      8 Preserving the Bedouin culture and heritage.
      Now I am looking forward
      For founding an organization to make their life better

    Hi, Thanks for the video.
    I'm confused about foundation. Can foundation be a public charity, not a private foundation? If I name my nonprofit organization Elda Foundation, does IRS automatically thinks it's a "private foundation", not a public charity?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So in the nonprofit world, the word "foundation" often relates to a grant-making foundation - meaning, an organization that gives money to other charities. That is not the case for all organizations with the word "foundation" in their title, though.
