In vanilla Shogun 2 online battles (not avatar) cav archers are AMAZING vs Oda becauseu they can do great against both matchlock and yari ashigaru. Yay for tradition!
Whistling arrows & war cry with what ever goes boom be gun's, rockets or bombs. Ashigaru greatest weakness is low moral! Use a wall of preferably naginata samurai or ikko iki swords with a few monks say 2-3 mixed in. Nothing like making full strength yari ashigaru units break instantly then using 1 or 2 cavalry to mop them up with the general. Oda may have 2 to 3 stacks vs 1 but no versatility & low moral. When you can beat Oda players as Tokugawa or worse yet the Hitori on campaign that is when you now you are hands down the better player. You have no advantage as the Tokugawa situated right next to the Oda though the houses you start with can bring in koku through trade as your only saving grace. Oda can take Tokugawa in a few turns but Tokugawa will need a dozen to 2 at least fighting off an endless wave. Don't use Kisho Ninja's as Tokugawa or Hitori as they are bugged.
